eBay Authentication Guarantee is a Joke - Beware
Just a heads up that this guarantee service is unreliable. They're asleep at the wheel - don't trust it.
Bought a Tom Brady card that was misrepresented. Seller said it was from one release, but it was from a different release (2002 Topps instead of Topps Chrome as stated). Due to this I paid double what the actual card is going for on eBay.
The card passed Authentication. Obviously the authenticator wasn't paying attention. It's a pretty easy case to prove now that I know.
I've heard that an authentication cannot be overruled. What is my recourse? I purchased the card about 28 days ago. Seller has a no return policy.
Anything I can do?

·2 years agoSadly you have no recourse through eBay. The Terms & Conditions of the Authentication program clearly state that if the seller doesn't accept returns it becomes a final sale. The best option is to dispute the charge with your payment source.
The authentication programs were a good concept, but their execution will always be flawed as long as eBay continues their shortsighted assumption that the authenticators are super-human and never make mistakes.
