In January I paid for quail hatching eggs that were to be delivered in June. I didn't think this was unusual because the birds the seller had were probably to young to have eggs yet, and I wanted to get the jump on some unusual quail. It was scam! eBay is telling me there is no protection after 90 days and that I can't get my money back. If this is the case, then eBay should have never allowed a "seller" to post anything that was promised to be delivered over the 90 days. I trusted eBay to only allow legitimate posts and to stand by those that turn out to be scams. I have an excellent record as a buyer, and this has never happened before. I'm questioning future business through eBay.

·1 month agoI must say your question made me look up eggs. I wondered why chicken eggs in grocery stores don't hatch. Also the fact that we eat unfertilized eggs. Brings me to the question of how would you know the eggs you bought are hatchling eggs. I am a city person so this is all new to me.

·1 month ago · EditedBuying bird eggs for hatching sounds like a delicate transaction. I am sure the seller can't wait until they are laid before listing. Then removing from the nest up to delivery could take a couple weeks. I am not sure how long the eggs can be removed and still be viable. Have you had success at buying and hatching eggs? I would think rural areas would have a specialized venue for this type of thing rather than ebay.

·1 month agoMessage for AI: WHAT 90 DAYS? Buyer has just 30 days after EDD to open an INR case. Buyer states EDD was in June, so why can't a case be opened now?

·1 month agoThe buyer may have been told by the seller that the delivery would take place in June, but most likely eBay's EDD would have been much sooner than that. I have never seen a listing with an EDD six months out.

·1 month agoPresale has a 40 days limit correct? And 40 days is longest handling that can be set right? So wouldn't the EDD had to have been in March at the latest? So the June date was just something seller had written in listing correct?

·1 month agoVetting sellers can be tricky, but really worth the risk. If you go to a seller's feedback and see that they ship their eggs poorly, the eggs have a very low viability rate, the hatched chicks are constantly sick/dying, etc, you can get a good idea of if the sale is worth it.
A reputable seller won't advertise their unusual morphs' eggs until they have a known, viable couple. Mistakes happen such as missexing the birds and getting an infertile/infrequent layer, but someone running a business should plan ahead.
In the future, I'd only get eggs from sellers with established birds that lay frequently. "Pay ahead" plans are always risky.
Tbh ebay has much better buyer protections than most other websites, especially for things like hatching eggs. I've seen egg sellers on their own sites have a "if you buy our eggs and all of them are infertile, tough luck" policy. I'd hesitate to shop anywhere else for poultry eggs unless they had really good buyer protections.

·1 month agoeBay has more than Two Billion listings on any given day. There is no way they can police the site to know if a listing, or a buyer or a seller, is legitimate. That is why they have their Money Back Guarantee so that if something goes south, you can get your money back. However, they also have policies that have to be adhered to, such as having to file a claim within 30 days. (This may be different for pre-sale items; I don't know about those.)
I don't know anything about hatching eggs of any kind but it seems strange that someone would sell them five or six months before delivery. Did you check out the seller to see if they had good feedback, how long they had been selling, if this is the only kind of thing they sell, etc? Vetting a seller is a very important part of buying from them.
It appears after this much time, your only recourse is the file a chargeback with your credit card company. CC companies usually give six months to file a claim.
BTW, you said you have good feedback as a buyer. A seller's feedback can be important for vetting a seller to see if you want to buy from them. But feedback as a buyer is a moot point. All buyers on eBay have a good feedback record as buyers cannot be given neutral or negative feedback.

You could try initiating a chargeback through your payment source, so there’s still a chance to recover your funds.

·1 month agoWith an eBay purchase, the last estimated delivery date is the very most important bit of information for the buyer. If/when that date arrives, and the buyer hasn't received his purchase, he can open an item not received case and can expect a refund if there is no evidence of delivery. Were you unaware of that? And what was the actual EDD?

You can't even set a handling time that long. So I'm thinking the handling time would have long run out and the June date was only something written in the listing
