Duty on car part from Japan
I am looking to buy a car part from Japan at a cost of $225. I think it is free from duty since it is under $800 and for personal use. But is is hard to get confirmation of this. Any advice?

Generally, items purchased from outside the U.S. for less than $800, do not have any customs fees levied on them. While there is customs fees levied on Luxury goods from Japan, I do not think i applies to car parts. The link below may give you the information you need though.

Google US customs and duty for inbound auto parts from Japan.
