Does the seller loose their money if I make a claim due to item being broken ?
Hi,
My purchase arrived broken (a mirror). I know that eBay has "eBay Guarantee Money back guarantee" so I could get a full refund.. however, I worry about the seller since it wasn't their fault. Does the money come from the seller or ebay ? Does the seller loose their money if I were to make a claim ?
I hope to hear from someone soon so I know how to proceed. Thank you.

What @lacemaker3 wrote is correct except I think they meant to write; "... it is almost always because it wasn't packaged well enough...".
The refund does come from the seller's account, and they have to pay the return shipping cost, if they want the item back, which will depend on how the seller handles the Not As Described dispute, either sending you a return shipping label or just refunding you without requiring the item to be returned. They will not get a defect on their account.

I thought we only had 5 minutes to edit replies. I must have missed the memo saying that the edit feature has been extended.

·1 year agoYes, you now have about 24 hours to make edits ... this started quite a few months ago, IIRC.
There wasn't any memo, though.

OP1 year agoWhat a shame. I want to get a refund because I paid for a lovely item, but it came shattered and has to be thrown away. On the other hand, I feel bad for the seller. I don't know what to do.
Thank you for letting me know. I appreicate it.

OP1 year agoThank you very much for your helpful knowledge. I really appreciate it. I'm really sad for the seller if I go through with a claim.

The seller is responsible for the item getting safely to your door, anything that transpired in shipping is their responsibility. If the seller packed the item well, and someone handled it with malicious intent or absolute carelessness, insurance would cover the sellers loss. If the seller packed it poorly (which I've experienced on more than one occasion), that's on them. The better sellers on this site all know the risks and pitfalls of shipping. If I were in your position, I'd proceed to make a claim with a clear conscience

·1 year agoIf an item gets damaged in shipping, that means it is not as described. If the buyer files a return request, the seller will have to pay for the refund.
If something gets broken while it is being shipped, it is almost always because it wasn't packaged well enough, so that is the seller's fault. Shipping labels include insurance to cover any damage that is not related to poor packaging, so in that case, the seller can get reimbursed by the post office or the courier.
