Does an Ebay "gift card specialist" department even exist?
I made a purchase awhile back using an Ebay gift card I had. This purchase turned out to be a scam (tracking number scam) so after reading up on that, I opted for the "item as not described route," as advised by others since Ebay automatically sides with the scammer if you go the "item not received route." Shortly thereafter, I received an email stating I would be receiving a refund, as the item never arrived, and I also provided proof of a chat transcript with UPS confirming that the tracking number info did not correspond with my address.
I waited a couple of weeks and my refund was never applied back to my gift card. I called customer service and after spending about an hour between being on hold and a very unproductive and circular conversation, the customer service rep, who was unable to solve my problem, told me I would be receiving an email from the Ebay "gift card specialist" department within 7 days. I gave it the full 7 days and never received an email from this department, or any other communication whatsoever from Ebay regarding my issue. My gift card balance STILL has not been refunded. If I call customer service again, I'm pretty sure I'll just be put on hold about 40 times and spend an hour being given the runaround YET AGAIN, because they clearly are allowed to just lie instead of solving problems.
How does one get in touch with Ebay customer service in any meaningful way now? I see they have completely shut down all avenues of contact via social media (Facebook and X), and the only customer service I've been able to get ahold of just lies to get rid of you.

·5 months agoBuying on Ebay with a gift card is an unforced error.
Especially if you thought you were protecting yourself from online fraud.
If someone gave me an Ebay gift card, I would be as careful as if I was purchasing from a stranger using cash.

You said you called customer service. EBay hasn't had an incoming customer service number since the pandemic. If you called a number you found online you weren't talking to eBay. You need to request a callback through the Help & Contact link.

OP5 months agoThat's what I did. They make it **bleep** near impossible to get ahold of anyone.

·5 months agoThe only way to get ahold of customer service is through chatbox and requesting a call back. Unfortunately I doubt Ebay customer service will be able to help you. When you say you got this gift card awhile back how long ago was that? Your only other option now is if its within 180 days is go through your payment source.

Check your eBay Payments page to see if the gift card refund amount appears there.
To contact eBay, use the chat assistant to request a call back by starting on the Help & Contact page and following the links for your issue.
What options you see may depend on your particular issue and how busy that department is at the moment.
Try entering "agent" into the chat window. You may have to provide some context to reach the correct department. If you see a "Still need help?" or "More options" choice, either of those should lead to a call back option.
If you are unable to get a call back, try contacting eBay via social media direct message:
