Dispute positive feedback
Hello all!
I recently had my first bad auction experience. I won an auction, seller canceled 2 minutes later. I posted about it on Reddit to vent, and another user messaged him and he admitted he did it because he paid 35 for the card and I won for 18.25 so he canceled to get his money back. I left the user bad feedback (which took the account from 99.6 to 99.3 positive. Big whoop), but in return I was left a "negative" positive feedback saying that i wasnt trustworthy and im a "passive" buyer, whatever that means. Can I dispute this positive feedback? Is there anything else I can do I dont know about. Im only 6 months into my eBay journey so im still learning.
Thanks for any help or comments.

·9 months agoThese type of situation I would just send the CS reps on social media a PM. They are the only ones who can put eyes on the situation. Btw, the feedback dispute pie fight isn't the issue here, it's sellers holding dishonest auctions that lead to BBE. What reason did the buyer use for cancelling?

OP9 months agoItem not available or damaged. Auction was relisted within 5 minutes for 8 hours. I didn't message him because I was very mad, just blocked him and left negative feedback. I posted my frustrations on reddit in the baseball card subreddit and someone messaged him and buyer stated he paid 35 for it and wanted to get his money back so he thats why he canceled it.

·9 months agoA seller who is also a buyer...first thing I would do is block this seller so he doesn't do the same thing to you.
And hope none of his friends buy items from you.
I would be careful of any incoming purchases from the state/city this buyer lives in...he might have friends.
This can become a big mess...let's hope not.
We do have sellers who want top dollar for their items on auction.
The seller got a 'ding' probably for canceling the sale...and still got charged an eBay fee for the $18.00+ item sold...even thought it was cancel.
But you are a seller also and I would have just let it go...not even leave any feedback.

OP9 months agoIs this why every seller has a 99% positive feedback because people are scared to give negative feedback? Im just doing my part to potentially save someone else headache and disappointment.
I was very excited to win that auction and as a buyer, I have the right to show my frustration by giving a negative feedback for being wronged.

·9 months agoMillions of transactions take place on ebay every single day. Millions of people trade amongst each other single day. 99. anything means nothing on ebay.
Hate this happened, but it does happen every day on ebay. It's part of the experience of ebay. Good and Bad.
Right now you're having a feel good moment. You got him. Right. You let people know you're frustrated. Let it out.
2 days from now, nobody is going to notice. Nobody is going to care. He's established. He has a good product base. He has collectibles people are buying. Life will go on, on and off ebay.

·9 months agoI had such an experience years ago...long ago.
I left a not very nice feedback...the seller has friend(s) who bought from me.
It was a seller in Canada in a city and his friends were also in the same city and such.
I knew the seller was using his friend(s) so I actually paid for items to have tracking which was not cheap to Canada.
His friends gave me negative feedback even though items were received.
I learned my lesson and have never left neutral or negative feedbacks again.
This was a seller selling fake stamps and I called him out on it.
I commend you for doing the right thing.

OP9 months agoPeople are crazy. Sorry you had to go through that. Also thank you for giving me some positive reinforcement. I really was starting to feel kind of like the bad guy for leaving negative review. I may make a new buyers account to avoid things like this.

·9 months agoWhat you need to do is start a second ID to use for buying. It's perfectly eBay-legal to have multiple accounts. You just need a different email address for each. Having an account for buying and one for selling allows you to leave honest feedback without worrying about retaliation. If you buy things to sell it also prevents prospective buyers from knowing what you paid for the item. I've had separate buying and selling accounts for years.

·9 months agoMany sellers have 99% or more positive FB because very few buyers pay any attention to FB anymore and do not leave it.
It has always been subjective and is mostly useless because of the number of transactions on mobile devices and the protections offered by the Ebay Money Back Guarantee.
Every bad transaction I have had as a buyer has been with a seller with 100% FB when I bought. I do not leave FB for sellers, so usually after I have gotten my refund, the seller has either 100% FB or has been NARUed by Ebay.
The number of sellers who run auctions who are also idiots and start them too low has increased over the years, as the number of sellers who run auctions has decreased. And of buyers who have lost out on perceived steals has increased dramatically.

·9 months agoYou could file an appeal which Ebay would most likely remove it because sellers can't leave negative comments in positive feedback however two things I wouldn't have bothered cause most folks don't even review positive feedback anyway. The next thing which is even more important is not to respond to that feedback. You already did. Now Ebay can remove the full feedback including your response but the response really wasn't necessary cause as mention people don't review positive feedback.

OP9 months agoYeah my main problem in life is overthinking things. This was one of those, just in case I couldn't get the post removed, I wanted context for potential buyers who may read it. I won't bother in the future..
Thank you for the reply.

·9 months ago@thenaytron ,
You can report the seller using the link below. Use the report seller button and select seller violated an ebay policy. When you get to the text box write out what happened Ex. Seller cancelled an auction win using an invalid reason, claiming "lost or damaged" but then relisted the item with a higher starting bid post the new auction item number. He also left me a positive feedback with negative comment, whichg I would like to have removed.
I'm not sure if you mentioning Reddit in your reply may not also get that removed as well.
He will get two defects on his account, one for using an invalid reason for the cancellation and one for the feedback they left.

FYI, going to Reddit or other online chats often results in getting bad information. If you have an issue with any seller post about it here, where experienced ebay users can help you.

OP9 months agoYes I'll definitely post here from now on when i need actual help. With that being said I didn't use that post to sway my decisions. My post was in a baseball card specific forum more of a warning to stay away from the user.
Thank you for your help and I'll definitely go through and report the user.

·9 months agoReddit is hearsay in this whole ordeal. Anything said on Reddit should mean nothing with the decision makers at ebay.
Bad information? There's "Experienced" Ebay Sellers and Buyers who give "Bad Information" here also. Happens every single day. 😂
