Defective items
Why Ebay doesn't stablishs better control or standards of what can be sold in their site. Lately every item I had purchased had to be returned because they are total junk. The descriptions were totally wrong. They didn't had scratches like the ad said. What it had was non functioning. Bad batteries, flaming hot screens. I really feel very scare ofpurchasing anything in ebay. Yes, Ebay returns the money still is a waste of the buyers time. One thing I hate the mostis going back to the post office to return items. Where is the convenience of buying online then?

OP11 months agoYes, the ebay system sends offers on items by the person just browsing the item. You most decline the offer or it will keep appearing , and you use the phone app there is an option to deselect that the system will send automatic offers , but I have no idea how to use it or where it is. There is a whole tutorial about that here. Is mega annoying, I just look at something 10 minutes comes back with the seller sent you an offer. If you are no careful declining you my end up having to cancel a purchase. I removed all my payments and the system still has an automatic Paypal payment that has intended to use for such offers. Is highly annoying and abusive to me. Why send an offer I didn't sent?

OP11 months agoLord almighty, many companies, browsers , many sites and cellphones made it big and then things changed and they dissapeared. Why and how? One when you don't get what you are aiming for eventually you walk away and in online businesses "you" mean millions of customers. This is my last replay no company is invencible or can withstand forever the lasting in function dependens on many factors , performance innovation and and having a grip on their busisness. If a company is set up allowing or kind of faulty transactions take place then is not a buying or selling place is a return and refund system.
The convenience is to buy what you want or need and to be fullfiled not to have a 90% risk of just having to return it.
The same crooked sellers that are selling unusable junk in ebay are plagued in Best Buy just anybody go there and read the reviews. The same situation on Walmart and Amazon is a bit better but not inmune. Why because there no standard of how to control those scammers.
In anyways never mind, still to answer the fact about the description , oh yeah it is described as working when it has a faulty battery that drains in 10 seconds flat. Is that convinience or dishonesty? Having a refund is a benefit but it doesn't cover the fact that one is aiming to get something honestly instead realized that what you read is a big fat lie.
Then buying online in places with no real standards is just an aggravation . I been in Ebay since 2005 and I'm becoming very aggravated with croocked sellers and the fact that the system place offers in your behalf by just browsing and item. Also there is no real human customer serviceMega frustrating.

·11 months agoIf you've had a lot of items that are not as described, maybe in person buying would be better for you. That's a decision that only you can make.

Finally, you do know that no one employed by eBay actually sees or evaluates these things before they are sent to you by the seller, right? So, if you have any suggestions as to how eBay could get better control of the situation, eBay might be interested in hearing them.

The convenience is the seller ships the item to your doorstep instead of you having to go to a store and get it. Remember you are buying items not in hand so you are not able to actually feel or test the item in advance. Things can go wrong when buying online. Sellers condition and description could be very different from yours. Which also include stock photos. This goes for any website you deal with not just Ebay. I have family members who buy stuff on other sites and have to make many returns. When I go to UPS there is always a line of people making returns through online. So it's all part of business.

·11 months agoBuying from a local retailer or brick-and-mortar store lets you see, feel, and hold the item before purchasing.
Shopping online especially by the lowest price might not always be as great of a deal as it appears.

There are about 2 billion listings on eBay, none of which are for merchandise eBay has inspected or even seen in person. That's the nature of the beast. So eBay has absolutely no way to determine if descriptions are accurate or items are functional. What eBay does have is a very buyer-centric Money Back Guarantee. It not only enables buyers to be refunded for items that are defective or not as described, it also dings the accounts of sellers who have cases opened against them. Just a few of those dings will result in penalties ranging from higher fees to account suspension.

·11 months agoEbay takes action against sellers who repeatedly misrepresent their items.
Many buyers fail to properly make proper buying decisions about many listings on Ebay.
For a start, if the price is too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true, or is stolen.
If the photos are not of the actual item being offered, and it is not a current, in production item, you should probably not buy.
If the item is new and the seller is not a manufacturer authorized reseller, you should not expect it to have any warranty beyond the 30 day Ebay MBG.
If the problem is ingested, I will not buy on Ebay.
If it is in a category which is known to include a large number of counterfeits, like perfume, I will not buy on Ebay.
Many buyers have their own list of seller tells which does more to protect them than anything which would be feasible for Ebay to implement.
I personally only buy items I care about from sellers I know. The sellers on my saved seller list are sellers I trust.
I also buy cheap Chinese sellers who ship from the US and I am willing to go through the hassle of getting refunded if the transaction goes south. I assume I will trash these products if they fail after 30 days. But if they cost less on Temu, I will buy them from Temu.

·11 months agoWhat would those standards be? There are buyers who want junk. If something does not work, it should be listed as for parts or not working, and the seller should make that clear in their condition and description. If they don't, then you have a right to return it.
My advice is if you are buying "used" or "pre-owned," look for sellers who also have videos showing an item working. I think most anything I sell that takes batteries or plugs-in, I demo it to show it works in a video. It takes a little more time, but it earns the trust of buyers I want shopping with me. Scammers are less likely to buy an item that has a video in the listing which shows working as could be more scrutinized when they run their scam. It also keeps things transparent with my buyers.
You can never completely avoid having to return something occasionally. If this is happening a lot, assuming you do not have unrealistic expectations (which it doesn't like to me like you do), then spend a little more time on the front end doing your research. Ship with sellers who offer free returns. They are highly motivated to be transparent in their listings and not sugar coat any flaws.
You can always have USPS pick up your return. You do not have to take it to the post office. Just go to their website and schedule the pick-up.
