defective ebay card
I bought an ebay gift card that does not work, the store that I purchased it - won't issue a replacement or refund, is there anything else that I can try?

If not, the first thing I'd do is contact customer service on social media. Those reps are usually far more savvy than the third-party contractors on the regular CS. On Facebook send a private message.

·2 years agoYou can easily start a Facebook account for the purpose of reaching out to CS there. Then once the conversation there is done you can delete it.
Every response you've given to suggestions of how you might remedy this has been met with excuses of why you can't do it. We have a finite number of things we can suggest.

Since you say there is a balance on the card, determined after checking online, I suggest you try this:
Paying with an eBay gift card
You’ll need to use your redemption code to pay for an item with your gift card. Here’s where you’ll find your gift card redemption code:
When you're ready to make a purchase, here’s how to pay with your eBay gift card at checkout:
If you don't have enough money on your gift card to cover the total cost of an item outright, you can pay the remaining cost using another payment method, such as a credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal.

OP2 years agoWhen I try to do what you suggested, it just goes straight to paypal - will not give any other options - I can't pay using a "closed" paypal account - no way to do that. The only other option that I can think of : open a new ebay account (which would not have paypal attached to it to begin with) and try to pay for items that way.

·2 years agoYou can ony redeem $1000 a day. Are you trying to purchase something that costs more? Are you trying to purchase something eBay doesn't allow to be purchased with a gift card?
Is your seller on ebay.com or in another country?

OP2 years agoI was only trying to purchase a DVD - considerably less than$1000 and that used to work (but paypal was still showing up on the payment options - which I do not understand - other than when I "closed" my Paypal account - I forgot to disable it (unconnect ) from ebay - this has been causing problems for me ever since - I'm wondering if I should just open a new ebay account - and close this one after that.

OP2 years agoI don't know what's not allowed, but I have only bought media items lately (DVD, Laserdisc, Bluray) = All of which have never given me any problems. As I have noted in other responses , my paypal account is closed, however, when I was able to use a card to buy something, paypal was mentioned and auto-selected, I would always have to change that payment option to gift card and type in the number. However, paypal has been mentioned as the "only" option for payment - no way to select Gift Card to pay = that's still the same problem, has not changed: I need to know if there is any way that I can just open a new ebay account (which would not have Paypal attached to it) and get rid of the problem that way - or would that even solve my problem - 'cause I'm trying to decide = do I keep this account and try to get rid of the connection to paypal ( would need to know how), or do I just open a new ebay account (which would not have paypal with it at all), or should I just close this account and not have an ebay account anymore. Should I speak to an ebay rep about this ( trying to do that through the website doesn't work - keep getting someone who does not seem to know what I'm talking about. ) Let me know your opinion as to which one of these options you suggest.

·2 years ago@rcaspindle-4,
Admittedly ebay has messed up with their automatic payment system, added to Mangled payments, making it hard to change an automatic = payment method. It seems that gift cards cannot be used to pay for Offers that have automatic payment enabled. They can only be used for fixed price BIN items and won auctions, which essentially become fixed price listings when won.
I suggest doing a Google search for;
"how do I change my automatic payment method on ebay, as a buyer"
There are several articles and videos that tell you how to do that. You may also want to do a search for; "Can an eBay gift card be transferred to my PayPal account". It seems that transferring funds does take a few days for them to be available.
I will say that I will never stop using my PayPal account for buying on ebay. If they ban its use completely, I will stop buying on this site. Their buyer protections and customer service are too valuable to me.

OP2 years agoI already know that these cards won't work for best offers - when I try to use this defective ebay card - instead of letting me pay for an item on ebay with it (like previous ones) - this one goes straight to paypal - I closed my paypal account and it's been to long to undo that - so when the store says it's an ebay issue - I tend to aggree with that - but how am I suppose to communicate with ebay - their on-line communicating - I keep getting someone who "claims" they do know understand or I get transferred to someone else - then it's here we go again with the same communication problem - I have 1 order that I am expecting to receive tomorrow (given it's current location) , if I can't get anywhere by the end of tomorrow I just might have to close my account with ebay .I do not want to do that, but at this point, I don't know what else I can do.
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoWhat you suggested : to search for "Can an eBay gift card be transferred to my PayPal account = will not work for me - I closed my paypal account = at the advice of someone else, so I no longer have an account with paypal

·2 years agoTake card and "receipt" to store where card was purchased...and ask for a manager...it is $1200. and not 10 cents.

·2 years agoThe $1200 card was in a different thread.
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years ago? - I think you must have the wrong thread - a gift card at dollar general does not cost $12.00 - I've already spoken to the manager at the dollar general about the "Defective eBay Gift Card" - and he refused to do anything

·2 years agoOops ....sorry about that.
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoI did that, the manager refuses to replace the card, or issue a refund, so now what??
buyselljack2016
·2 years agoPer an earlier post that you made................... the card "has a balance"............ which would indicate that the problem IS NOT with the card , or with the store that it was purchased at🙂
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoI agree, but what do I do?? I do not have near enough phone minutes to stay on hold for who knows how long waiting for an ebay rep to talk to me.
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoThis whole problem is that I closed my paypal account - but there is still a connection from ebay to paypal = I need to get rid of that, I think if that link ebay-paypal no longer existed, the problem would no longer exist either. So, do I just open a new ebay account (which would not have paypal with it to begin with, or do I need to jump through a lot of hoops on the phone with ebay trying to fix this??
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoThe manager is the problem, already spoke to him - anyone who doesn't agree with him or wants to just not say anymore about the issue might as well leave the store and never come back before the manager tells them to.
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoI don't have near enough minutes on my phone, or the money to buy a new card, - and given the problem with the ebay card - I would need a different store to buy the phone card from.
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoThen just who is responsible, because the manager at the store where I purchased the card to begin with is not claiming responsibility either - so, neither one willing to accept blame - what do you do about that - nothing?

OP2 years agoI have never been able to use this card - so it's not used= that's the problem, I paid for it, but can't use it - so now what?
Did you contact customer service as I suggested?
If not,I don't know what else to tell you.
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoI can't contact customer service until I can come up with the money to add a new phone card to my phone so that I can call them - and given this problem with the ebay card - I'm going to have to figure out a store to purchase a phone card from ( I do not want the same problem all over again with a phone card - that I have with the ebay card.
You don't need to talk to them on the phone, there is a live chat option. But whatever good luck with whatever you decide to do or not do.
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoI always try the online chat first - to get that out of the way and overwith - I keep getting someone who does not understand what I am asking about = that's why I would rather have a phone conversation with ebay - I don't know what else to do.
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoI always try the live chat option - first, but, when that does not work out (they don't always seem to understand what I'm even talking about) , then, that's when I start communicating here - I don't know of any other option except talking to ebay on the phone - (Which used to be a lot easier)
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoWhen I try that, whoever it is that I'm communicating with does not seem to understand what I am talking about

·2 years ago@rcaspindle-4
In the past I needed to do as some have suggested and contact "eBay for business" on Facebook to contact an eBay rep.
I did not have a Facebook account. I opened one for the express purpose of contacting eBay for business. That is all I used the Facebook account for.
You can easily open another eBay account, but if the gift card has been linked to the existing account (even though you have been unable to purchase with it) I would be reluctant to try that as a solution.
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoI do not have nor do I want a Facebook account, from the last part you said, it sounds like I need a way to get the connection to paypal disabled - but since I no longer have a paypal account - how do I disable the paypal to ebay connection??
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoThat would still work for another ebay card though - I don't like having to spend more money that I cannot afford to - but at this point - I don't know what the right thing to do is
mudshark61369
·2 years ago@rcaspindle-4,
If you tried to use the card within 24 hours of purchasing it, your payment may not have been transmitted to ebay's computers, and then registered in them. May chain stores transmit their electronic payments to banks twice a day, even though a card payment was authorized. Those payments may not clear a bank on weekends until sometime on Mondays, So trying to use a card shortly after it was purchased may not have a balance until the next day or two after the purchase was made.
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoThat's why I have kept trying to use it, but no different results, ebay knows the card exits, but when I try to pay for something, they won't take payment from the gift card - it goes straight to paypal, which I no longer have a paypal account - so if there's no other solution, I only know of 2 answers: open a new account (which would not have paypal connected to it to start with or just close my ebay account and not have one anymore = if anyone knows of any other options, any help would be appreciated.
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoI bought the card this past Monday morning
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoIt's been 2 days = usually, I am able to use it - the same day shortly after I purchased it - but not with "this" card
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoI tried the morning of purchase, later the same day and days since then - no change - still unusable - problem seems to have something to do with a paypal account that I no longer have ( but is still linked to ebay somehow) - ebay's online help has been of no help whatsoever with this. If I go to: https://www.ebay.com/gft/balance - I get a balance on this card - however, if I go to ebay.com and try to use it to purchase something, ebay won't recognize it - this has not happened before with other ebay cards that I have purchased. I need a way to get that paypal link to ebay "removed" - or I'll have to open a New ebay account (because they won't let you do that and have paypal connected to it anymore) - or I'll just have to close this account with ebay without opening a new account first - and not be part of ebay anymore - which I am trying to avoid - so far, it's not working out.

·2 years agoAs stated above if you purchased this at a store then eBay has nothing to do with it
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoWell, the store is saying that "they" are not responsible, so, just who is??
rcaspindle-4
OP2 years agoThat's not what the store is where I bought it is telling me - The manager of the local store where I purchased the card Will Not except blame or responsibility for this - neither party was to take the blame - well, someone 's at fault - but not me, I'm just one of the victims.
