Damascus sellers. sending unwanted knife or bogus track# never completing sale you paid for
Sellers of Damascus knifes offer a low price to get sale. Then send unwanted knife. No attempt is made to get you original purchase. Only option is a lower quality knife sent. They will not even reply when you offer to buy ANOTHER knife equal to the original. Or replace the one they selected with one you could select from the hundreds they list every week. Even though many are close to an exact match of what you wanted. They will not make it right. Then send requests for bogus information like" write from the email you made the purchase from". SAY WHAT? when the only email you have ever used is 2 decades old. So you reply with a terse remark asking what are you talking about this is the ONLY email etc etc " So the return label is not sent and then you perhaps forget for awhile thinking a report may help resolve it. After all you might like to get the original purchase.. Some will not even reply to you until ebay steps in. Some will use a tracking number that was issued but the knife was never dropped off ( it will say that in almost fine print if you look close) but it has the appearance of a viable tracking # but it never goes anywhere. Then the seller writes you after a week telling you the original was lost in the mail and they can send you a replacement that is almost the same. LMAO Yeah sure. That is what I want some dishonest seller choosing a knife for me when he lied about sending the original purchase never intending to send it,And I suspect only using it as a bait and switch . And then will not even reply when you ask for him to give YOU a choice to select one from the hundreds and hundreds he lists every week. Hmmm I wonder why they won't. I have written reports and just had one kicked back to me denied because the seller asked for that fictitious information request to which I replied with that rather short and terse reply ( I realized what he was doing) to which he never sent the return label until I filed the report. Then he spammed it to me A LOT. Then he must have complained of time limits and the investigator AGREED EVEN THOUGH THE TELEPHONE AGENT SAID HE WOULD EXTEND because the label was never sent. This is something that buyer should be protected from. Buyers are held accountable. Even though buys can't scam. ( I am not 100 percent on that. I just know I never have. Never even entertained the thought.) But I have written the report in what I thought was clear and concise intention. Although they really do not give you enough room for those darn things. And I hope that was the investigators reason to dismiss and let a scammer get his pound of flesh. But hey. I tried again so we will see. These things do not sit well with me and I am not a person you want to have focus on something like this. I can write a report and I do not lie.. I do not need to. And if I can stop one other person from falling into this I will be a happy guy! Hmmm.. I wonder if the ebay crew will delete this...

·2 years ago@kelly71159,
You replied to my post saying:
"I am a bit unsure why you thought you should come here in some kind of attempt to scold and admonish some old guy whos' transgression was overlooking some kind of shield and stars ( that, by the way you could have been decent by leaving out the accusatory and condescending nature of your post to someone trying to warn others. Maybe you could have offered some well placed constructive criticism. That in turn would have been respected and appreciated then returned with a heartfelt thank you . But I guess not".
In my first post I ASKED if your problem was with a seller who places a Stars and Stripes shield on their photos? I did that because we cannot name and shame another member on these boards. That seller is the 6th one down on your feedback received As a buyer list. It was a request for information. I had checked the feedback profile pages of each of the seller's you bought from starting at the top of the list, before seeing theirs, and learning what they sell.
I offered you advice, to check the feedback profile pages of any seller you intend to buy from, before making a purchase. I do not see how that can be considered accusatory or condescending, when you asked for advice. We have no way of telling your age so that was not a factor in my reply. I will tell you, I ain't no spring chicken either. I and others, do have the expectation that a person who has received (555) feedback, should at least know how the Money Back Guarantee (MBG) works. There is a link to its policy information on most ebay listing pages after all.
In your reply to @soh.maryl , you wrote:
"Decades ago I am certain that any tactics like this would have been dealt with and prevented swiftly. We had policy and the support of leadership that went to great length to prevent things like this ( not that I was in the room with them. But the policy of prevention and solutions to deal with problem seemed quite a bit more black and white or cut and dried. Mandates didn't appear to have loopholes or loosely worded policy that left things essentially unresolved"
Back when you first joined, there was no Money Back Guarantee policy, but online shopping was just taking off, and as with all new ventures there will be a learning curve as all of the earlier online sites found out. We did have a simple way to contact actual ebay employees by phone and it helped, but even they couldn't help with some situations. Even after ebay introduced the MBG, it was revised several times, There were usually announcements when that happened. In its current form ebay has given quite concise information on how and when to use it, though it does take clicking on a couple of buttons to get to that page when you click on the More details link from a listing page. The link below is to that page.

If you have questions about any of the info, we'll be glad to help with them.
I will offer one more suggestion. However, if you choose to take it as criticism, know that it is not how I mean it to sound. Your original post, and each of your replies are very long. It helps people to read them if you place paragraph breaks in them. Without them we may miss something important because the information is all jumbled together.

If the seller you had issues with is one who has U.S. stars and stripes shields on most of their photos, you should have checked their feedback profile page before buying from them. They have a combined total of over 140 negative/neutral feedback they have received in the last year, most for poor quality knives.
If you had read and followed the procedures of ebay's Money Back Guarantee (MBG) as soh.maryl suggested, you would have gotten a refund. Instead you just kept trying to deal with the seller directly, and probably let the MBG time frame for getting a refund expire.

OP2 years agoWell.. I am a bit unsure why you thought you should come here in some kind of attempt to scold and admonish some old guy whos' transgression was overlooking some kind of shield and stars ( that, by the way you could have been decent by leaving out the accusatory and condescending nature of your post to someone trying to warn others. Maybe you could have offered some well placed constructive criticism. That in turn would have been respected and appreciated then returned with a heartfelt thank you . But I guess not. And I won't go to that place where I was thinking I should guess why it was handled that way . Really though I realize that ignorance is no excuse. And I guess that is exactly what it was. And my fault in entirety ? ( can you imagine the population associating blame under those standards. Some victim getting sanctioned because they were ignorant of some small paragraph in some statute that opened them up to be preyed up by someone of low moral turpitude. And the predator exonerated or his crime minimized because that darn old victim wasn't aware of some mandate added who knows when. The only method I have ever been aware of to warn somebody was the was the feedback rating. Which, in fact, I do use for nearly everything I buy here. But seeing a 97 or 98 feedback rating 1 I don't have a clue what somebody's stars and shield means. I am guessing something added well after my account was started about 20 years ago. And I have not sold anything for years. Nor do I actively search for updated policy to any great degree. Does it make me remiss. Probably. Does it make me ignorant of changes which might affect me or come back to haunt me? Definitely. I live and learn everyday. Sometimes the hard way. And I can say that I am going to see if I can find out what the hell you were referring to. And if does have value I will use it. I only wish I had been been appreciative enough for the protentional lesson to say Thanks man. Thanks for looking out for someone you didn't even know. I hope I can return the favor someday. But nah! Have a good day Maybe peruse the forums ( my first time here and first posts too) to find the ignorant like me who fell prey and really lay into them and let them know how dumb they were and should have known better. Or maybe you could take a bit of that desire to brow beat someone into learning a lesson they should have known and send a note to Ebay about letting sellers they must know are bad sellers to continue to sell because it earns them a few more buck for their investors. If, in fact, that is the case. And it sure seems to be. I remember what Bill and Ted said and I think it applies here. " Be excellent (and kind?) to each other.
Oh and the thing about waiting for him to "deal" Nope . Not how it happened. I made the guy the offer and after the second day when I realized what he was really doing I contacted Ebay by phone who wrote the letter that coaxed him into replying ( I may be confusing this with the second incident ) either way I didnt wait for weeks or whatever you said ( I really am at a loss as to why I am continuing to explain myself and actions to someone so seemingly pretentious. It affords me nothing. This is who you are and your approach to people will not change. You have a nice day man And I hope I did not sound to abrasive in my attempt to offer some interpersonal skills guidance.. Ooooor was I? Go gettem tiger!

·2 years agoCan you make us understand why any buyer who receives an item that's not as described would not simply open an item not as described case and then follow through with it?
Your desire to stop one other person from falling into this is truly admirable and you can do that by making sure that any buyer on eBay gets acquainted with the Money Back Guarantee, preferably BEFORE they begin shopping here.

OP2 years agoBecause after looking into the situation I began to become aware that this is a intentional and repeated practice by some sellers. I was trying to buy a gift for someone with time constraints. After 2 attempts my window closed. Although I would have done it on principle alone. I do not see why anyone would find this acceptable and just let it happen again and again. This is not selling in good faith or with integrity. I am certain a seller who made sale being under paid for the item. Many times the item sent is valued below the original item purchased or maybe paid with a currency far below an exchange rate. Even above that If I buy an item I like and I place a value on it of what I think it is for me but the seller sends me a substitute that feel is not valued anywhere close to what I put the value of what I really bought.. Maybe because the original was offered with a discount etc . Anyone including any buyer or anyone informed of it happening intentionally and frequently I cannot believe would find this acceptable. Decades ago I am certain that any tactics like this would have been dealt with and prevented swiftly. We had policy and the support of leadership that went to great length to prevent things like this ( not that I was in the room with them. But the policy of prevention and solutions to deal with problem seemed quite a bit more black and white or cut and dried. Mandates didn't appear to have loopholes or loosely worded policy that left things essentially unresolved and Greed is rampant and far too many people are choosing avenues that victimize buyers and sellers. It is prevalent in so many ways, many hidden, that we as consumers pay for with the money we work hard for. Much of it legal but way beneath being unethical. I can say honestly I have a certain disdain for those who practice behaviors that take advantage of othes. We should be evolving into something better not devolving to a place where crime and shady **bleep** is admired and used on anyone and everyone, Including the most vulnerable. I wish I could do more.. Hmmm Maybe I could get a Batman suit and a couple sidekicks lmao... I hope that makes sense. I tried..

·2 years agoYou received an item that was not as described. Several of us explained the Money Back Guarantee to you. We thought you wanted help or advice. All of your points about greed etc are valid. No one here disagrees with you. You have chosen to chastise us for our advice. Seems like the eBay version of shooting the messenger.
Just one simple question: Did you open the item not as described case as suggested?
