customs duty from Japan
If I buy Photocamera from Japan, who suppose to pay customs duty? First time I find out that delivery company charge customs duty.

·2 years agoI have been importing items from Japan since 1994. Anywhere from $150-$10000. I had never paid a cent of customs duty due to the fact there was no charge to bring items to the USA from Japan. Well laws change and since lockdown there are Customs Duty charges. But in my case I have never paid a cent unless the shipment was over $3000. Cost for that shipment? $57. The most I have ever paid was $87 for a $7700 shipment. By the way those payments go to US Gov not Japan.

·2 years agoNot exactly sure who you're responding to, but this post is 6 months old. I'm pretty sure the customs charges have already been resolved by now.

·3 years agoThe delivery company does not charge the customs fee.
The seller does not charge the customs fee.
eBay does not charge the customs fee.
The country, in this case, Japan, charges the customs fee.

·3 years agoIt's the buyer that pays customs fees, taxes and import duties. So, you need to check and see if any apply and how much that are. Might cost less to purchase from a local dealer. It's not the shipper that charges customs duties, it's your government.

·3 years agoYou are. Always has been that way; import something over $X (I believe it's $800) and you get to pay 'import' fees.
