Hello eBay.
I was ripped off by a scam artist on here. I ordered an item. The tracking says it was delivered, probably an empty box to an area near my house. This verifies delivery to my town at least. I called UPS. They verified it was not delivered to my address. I cannot contact anyone on eBay to explain that they need to contact UPS, the carrier. They will verify it wasn't delivered to me. What can I do please? eBay sided with the seller and gave an auto generated positive feedback! Are you kidding me? They are ripping people off!

·6 months agoSo sorry about your experience. It's one of many examples demonstrating that eBay is complicit and supportive of criminals who bring them multi- millions in profit weekly.

·6 months agoI recently ran into this same problem, I believe this is a new scam that unfortunately eBay is a little behind on adapting to, I presented a letter from USPS stating that the package was delivered to the name and address on the shipping label but that shipping label was not addressed to me and both eBay and PayPal gave an automated response that my claim was denied because tracking showed the package was delivered. I can’t get my money back.

There is more than one reason why a package could be delivered to a wrong address. What YOU need to ask UPS is whether YOUR name and address were on the package associated with the tracking number you were given.
Once you are told that your name and address were NOT on the package associated with that tracking number … my advice is to contact your credit card company and ask to speak with their Fraud Department. Tell the agent that you are the victim of the ‘Fake tracking number scam’ and request a chargeback.

·6 months agoMost people use PayPal for eBay and unfortunately PayPal‘s policy is to just simply go by the tracking information provided by eBay and since the tracking information will show that the package was delivered to the name and address on the label. PayPal will not refund your money, this is a scam that unfortunately PayPal is not up-to-date to combat and eBay while eBay Customer service is just as worthless as burnt cheese on a cast-iron skillet, almost impossible to deal with.

If you filed an "item not received" case you will automatically lose if the seller has tracking that appears to show delivery to your area.
You would have needed to contact eBay via social media direct message, mention "false tracking", and then have a chance to provide your documentation -- at least until you contacted PayPal and the matter was taken out of eBay's hands.
If you use a credit card to fund your purchase through PayPal, you may still have recourse through your card issuer. Just be sure to mention that it was a case of "false tracking", otherwise your card issuer is likely to make a decision based on your seller's claim that delivery was made.

·5 months agoI did that through PayPal and their response was their system uses the tracking information provided by eBay to determine whether or not it was delivered to me, this is a full on scam perpetrated by eBay.

I also use PayPal for eBay ... BUT my credit card is my default/preferred payment method in PayPal. Ever since PayPal reduced its deadline to file a NAD claim to 30 days ... it's especially important to use a payment method that allows more than 30 days to file a claim.
That said, PayPal actually is a bit more up-to-date on the 'False tracking number scam' than eBay ... since it currently has 'Delivered to the wrong address' as one of the reasons a buyer can choose when filing a claim. [But I still prefer to go directly to my CC company whenever I encounter this scam, which I started doing in 2021.]

·5 months agoPayPal does not provide resources to file a claim like this, they ask if I had a letter from the post office and I uploaded it but they then came back and told me their system only recognizes the tracking information provided by eBay and I since the tracking information shows that it was delivered to the correct address on label they found in favor of the seller, there is no way I’m going to upload credit card information to PayPal, they are now seeming just as shady as eBay is. I think Mercari might be the only platform I will ever be doing business with from here on out.

OP6 months agoI did contact UPS. They sent me an email stating that the address and receiver is not mine. It was actually some kind of healthcare shipment. I am going to assume this is intentional. I've been on eBay for 21 years and never has this happened.

As long as you confirmed that your address wasn't on the package ... which proves the shipping company didn't accidentally deliver the package to the wrong address ... you can go directly to the Fraud Department of your CC company, which will be VERY familiar with this scam.
I started experiencing the scam in 2021 ... around the time a lot of common items I used were disappearing from my local grocery stores due to the pandemic. I started buying more household items online and encountered the scam on eBay, Amazon, and Walmart ... with USPS, FedEx, and UPS ... several times in a few weeks. That's what made me a bit of an unwilling expert on this scam.
One thing I learned is that it isn't necessarily the seller who is responsible for the scam. It sometimes is the seller's dropshipper OR the dropshipper's supplier who supplies the false tracking number. The seller might be as much of a victim as the buyer.

So eBay is refunding my money because they determined it was stolen during delivery. I am not buying that **bleep** because UPS told me it was delivered somewhere else. I guess it is possible sellers are at risk, but this seller didn't even provide tracking until after it was late. It read 'untracked'. It's not only about the money. Someone has my money, and they received a positive review! I'm done venting. Thank you for your support and advice.

·5 months agoIf I contact my bank and report the fraud, they will not allow me to do business through PayPal Or eBay moving forward, it will block me from doing any kind of business until I change my account, a better option for me is to never do business on eBay going forward, there are plenty of platforms that many people on eBay use other than this one and those platforms are up-to-date on this scam.

·6 months agoI'll assume you filed "Item not received" and tracking shows it delivered and that's why you lost your case.
They won't contact UPS to verify anything. This sounds like the "False tracking scam" and eBay doesn't want to or can't prevent it.
There's the official recommended way to do it yourself that requires jumping through hoops to be made whole...or... Think a little outside of the box. Maybe a different kind of return claim for a refund.
It was described that you would receive what you paid for...Yes? So maybe "Item not as described"? It's not the official recommended way to handle it but the seller didn't follow the rules either. If they send you a return label send them what you received...nothing, zip, nada empty box.
Or a chargeback with your credit card if that's how you paid. Credit card issuers are well aware of this scam.
