    Counterfeit

    I purchased a T-shirt described as Christian Dior. Unfortunately, when I received it, I knew it was not authentic, as I have several garments purchased from Dior.com. I brought the item to my local Dior boutique and they confirmed it was counterfeit. They tried to take possession of the item because of trademark infringement, but I refused to release it. I requested a “not as described” return and seller agreed and subsequently provided a full refund. I also made a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. Anyway, my concern is the seller has re-listed the item again for sale, knowing the item is counterfeit, which is illegal and a breach of eBay’s platform policy.  I don’t understand why eBay doesn’t try to mitigate fraudulent transactions on their platform, keeping a safe environment for legitimate buyers and sellers alike.  I reported the seller and listing with no avail. Seller has several current listings that are not authentic. I really am concerned about other potential victims who might not have the skill set to identify counterfeit goods.  Any thoughts or ideas?

    But do take the info to the Dior store you went to.  They will pass it along, and when they contact eBay, watch how fast eBay reacts to it.

    @slimkeith62,

    "I don’t understand why eBay doesn’t try to mitigate fraudulent transactions on their platform, keeping a safe environment for legitimate buyers and sellers alike".

    There is no possible way ebay can vet each listing, because of the volume of new items posted every day.  You seem to be experienced at spotting Christian Dior fakes, but could not tell from the listing that what you received was a fake item. They also do not know if you actually are capable of spotting fakes and they cannot remove a seller or their items on just one person's say so.

    If other people file disputes for the seller's items not being authentic, ebay will take notice, and will remove them.

    What you may want to try and do is to go back to the boutique and speak to the people there about getting Christian Dior to join ebay's  Verified rights owner (VeRo) program. Then they can have listings for fake items on ebay taken down.  Though how they can do that if a seller posts photos of an authentic item we cannot say.

    Thanks for responding. Your point about eBay not being able to vet all listings is well taken.  Thank goodness eBay has their money back guarantee policy, as well

    as they have started to authenticate in-house certain product categories and price-points, which protects both the buyer and seller alike. Dior B23 sneakers are a perfect example. I’ve sold and purchased several sneakers through this process.  In addition, I do take  responsibility as a buyer that if I desire 100% authentic merchandise, I should purchase the items directly from the luxury retailer.  Thanks again and Happy New Year!

    When you next go to that Dior boutique, give them all of that sellers details.

    They must be better placed to force ebay to take action.
