Confused with "Adult Only Item - Requires Verification" listings ... how do you verify age to veiw?
Along with numerous sellers, I am very confused with what ebay has been doing with adult themed items - I have numerous gripes that stem from one to another on this topic
First off, I thought ebay did away with anything and everything adult oriented back in 2021 when they got rid of their worthlessly well hidden and barely known ADULT ONLY Category (sounds like a great spot to sell right? ... I mean no one can see, search or find your stuff ... not even a visible category link - what could be better as a seller?!) - But it seems that there are still quite a few sellers who specialize in selling these items whether its photos, magazines, toys ect - And there are many others that are trying to sell these items that are getting the bulk of their listings hidden under the old "Adult Only Item - Requires Verification" (grey photo) anonymous listings in their store - Note: these items will not show up in listings using mobile devices at all ... so they are basically invisible - On a desktop they will look like a regular listing with no photo and no description and they are not searchable ... basically worthless unless you physically click on the vague listing - So in order to see what the item even is you have to click on the vague listing and see if its something that you're even looking for - This is a horrible way to shop on ebay or anywhere for that matter - This is like walking into a store and all the sellers items are in unlabled boxes and if you feel like searching through all 20,000 boxes in hopes that you may find something you want, hey, go right on ahead! - This is absolutely down right annoying - When the adult only section did exist I was able to click on one of these listings and a separate page would pop up and you would click the little button saying that you are 18+ blah blah blah nonsense ... BUT, after checking the verification box all of those vague grey photo listings would become visible and it would then be like a normal ebay browsing experience (these listings were still invisible on mobile devices back then too btw) - But now it seems when you click on an Adult Only Verification listing there is no "I'm 18+" box to check so the horrible grey box listings never end - I have noticed that a lot of the sellers have been putting direct links to their stores in their listings so people are aware that ebay is hiding the majority of their listings and so that people can go directly to "view" these listings in their stores ... but they still do not show up visibly there and there is no way to search for these items in their personal stores as ebay just acts like they do not exist without the magical "verification" that you can never seem to verify anywhere - So, my question is: Is there a way to "verify" my age so these annoying grey boxes go away for good and I can see what sellers have to offer without clicking on everything? I would think that having an ebay profile page where I have to provide a credit card number, which you have to be 18 to get anyway, would be an automatic verification of a persons age ... but that's just me thinking logically I guess
Ok, this is becoming extremely annoying eBay ... the second part of this gripe is that some sellers are not getting the grey box treatment of hidden listings but are getting the items deleted outright - Now I know this is what used to happen for obvious reasons when dealing with this type of subject matter BUT WHY ARE SOME SELLERS IMMUNE TO THESE RESTRICTIONS AND OTHERS ARE NOT? - Right now you can do a quick search for "nude photo" and come up with over 100,000 listings that show everything from head to toe - Why is this acceptable in one store and not another - More confusing is that some sellers are having a combination of all three things happening to the same type of listings all at once - They could literally have 5 slightly different but similar pictures of the same nude girl and one of them will remain active like normal, three of them will be awarded a "AOVR grey photo vague listing" and one will just disappear / be deleted completely - This has had a lot of sellers pulling their hair out - Even sellers who are editing the images to show zero nudity are getting listings canned, meanwhile a seller over here is unloading a truck load of graphic dildos with no issues at all - The sellers do not know what is going on, trying to comply with ebays wishy washy rules that are ok for some but not for others and maybe this listing is ok but that one is not .... no one really knows what is acceptable anymore!
I really would like some type of straight forward clarification on what is going on with all of this - Ebay, If you don't want adult items listed on your site then that's fine, GET RID OF EVERYTHING SO I STOP BOTHERING WITH THIS SITE! - If not, then lets get a special spot/category where sellers and people can go, AND KNOW WHERE TO GO (DON'T HIDE THE CATEGORY LINK AGAIN!!) so we adults can buy and sell these things and not have to deal with your picking and choosing censorship - Right now eBay seems to be riding that fence so far in the middle that even they don't seem to know what's really going on or what's right or what's wrong anymore

·1 year agoI have the same problem. I just spoke with Customer Service who were helpful and said they will get back to me with regards as to why the listings aren't showing up as they should (with correct image and title).
Looking on ebay, there are images that should not be here for sure. But they should clearly outline, anything thats clearly vintage (over 20 years old) and is "decent" like "topples" only images, should be more than fine to sell.
Also, if anything they need to crack down on the tons of AI spam images i see all over the place.

·2 years agoI have a tastefully done Antique portrait of a nude women on Porcelain... 1800s. It comes up with the Adult V. gray block... and yet you don't have to look far to see nude paintings, frontal nude photos of men and women with everything hanging out?

·2 years agoI am unable to find any of my listings that I created on feb 3. All nude listing are "Subject: Nudes" attributes.
When I created the listings I was able to see all of them about 15 minutes later. But today I can't. So, I logged on as my wife and I still cannot see my listings but I can see other's listing "3d Slides". I can still see my listings from a few weeks ago but no longer can see the Feb3 listings of which are about 50 listings! For instance, can you see my listing for: 3d stereo slide cheesecake nude
or for: Stereo Realist 3D Slide Kodachrome Nude from 1950s Shows Retro Taystee Bread
I see everyone else's but not mine. Is there something wrong with the actual listings?? Although, like I said, I can see my older listings!
Ebay says that indexing should not take over 24 hours! It now well over 4 and half days.

·2 years agoI sell antique prints, some of them Renaissance and other artists depicting nudity, a lot of Greek and Roman mythology images, the same thing. Until a year or so ago, these listings were showing up in searches as any others. Now, as you say, these works of art are "adult" items. It is laughable. They are invisible on ebay (Another site Etsy, they don't have such a policy...yet). I got one removed abut six months ago, with the explanation, why, and what is considered nude and as such may offend people. I was advised, that each listing that is technically 'nude,' must, in the item specifics, under the 'subject' of the print include "Nudes". This way, it is legal to have on ebay, but this also automatically moves it into the invisible "Adult" precipice. One reason that some nude listings do show in normal search may be that sellers most likely do not put "nudes" in the item specifics.

·2 years agoActually Etsy's rules on adult content are almost identical to eBay's, as Adyen is their payment processor as well. Apparently the difference is in the way the rules are enforced.

eBay does not appear to be a go-to site to sell or buy adult items any more.
There’s confusion as to what is allowed to be listed … and I’ve seen posts from sellers whose listings have been pulled, although they seemed to conform with eBay’s new policy.
So I just wanted to recommend you be careful about what you list and to NEVER relist any item that’s been pulled … even though you’re certain it meets the guidelines. Good luck! 😊

eBay did that in name only, because their managed payments processing company Adyen which is based in Holland, is not by their law suppose to collect money for "pornography". Something I found funny, considering Holland's views on prostitution. To pay lip service to the law ebay removed the adult only category, and stipulated that some photos had to cover genitalia. You are right there are many categories for photos of nudes and I searched some of them opening some listings without having to verify, on my computer. Photos that have been pulled may have had that happen, because of the title used, or for their explicitness.
As for ebay's adult verification. They may be assuming if a person has a credit card on file, that automatically makes them over 18 and therefore no verification needs to be required, not taking into account that some parents give their underage kids credit/debit cards. The sex aids you mentioned also uses a misspelling if a search is started that prefills the word, yet the listings titles have it spelled correctly.
Given what I have already written about the reason for the removal of Adult themed items, and the number of them for sale. I do not think you will get a clear answer from anyone in the community as to why some items/photos are allowed while others are not. I'm not even sure if management would give an outright simple reason for the discrepancies, if asked.
