Comments On Two Purchases And Different Experiences
I am writing as a buyer and my experiences good and bad on two different transactions.
First VERY POSITIVE
Needed a specific new pillow, contacted several buyers asking for specific information. Of the three I contacted, only one went the extra mile. He measured the depth of the pillow, confirmed it was the style I wanted, was prompt in evey response, I purchased, paid, and was shipped the same day. That is an excellent seller who provided a great buying experience.
NOT VERY Positive
I was looking for some specific items, and along my way ran across one from a new seller. I did not buy it, but later an offer that was too good popped up, so I accepted and paid. That was two days ago. I noticed it had not been shipped, and then saw she had a 3 day "handling time". Considering she was new and had only 20 sales I sent her a nice message asking when this would ship, and why she had such a long time before shipping. She didn't respond. She sent a tracking number, and never answered my question. This was a seller who in my opinion did not provide a good experience.
Just sharing my thoughts on why some sellers succeed and some don't. It really boils down to communication. Not saying all NEW sellers are poor, and all established sellers are great, but found it interesting.

·3 years ago@frugalmarketplace Personally I don't mind questions about my listings. While I do my best to describe them and use almost all of the photo allocations, sometimes a buyer's question will bring up something I may have missed. Usually happened when I used to list items I was selling for close friends of mine, as I wouldn't be quite as familiar with them. It never feels like it takes much time for me to look at the item and answer their questions. I choose to look at it from a more positive approach. To each their own but I understand your gratitude with that seller. Best of luck to you....

·3 years agoI'm sorry, but how is a a 3 day handling time "long"? Most actual websites I order from (unless I'm ordering something via Prime) take about that long to ship whatever I've ordered. In fact, just looking at the last non-Amazon thing I ordered online, I placed my order on the 20th and it shipped on the 22nd, and this is from a major company.
I'm not sure why you're expecting eBay sellers to drop everything and race to the post office when even large companies don't do that.

·3 years agoActually, my Amazon orders from 3rd-party sellers often take longer than 3 days to ship. My latest order shipped in 5 days: ordered 7/22; shipped 7/27. So what?
I'm frankly surprised that an experienced seller would hassle a 'new seller' with multiple messages about shipping ... knowing it would only make them more nervous. I'm a buyer only, and I take for granted that a new seller is likely to spend more time with packaging, etc. I don't buy from new sellers if I need an item quickly.

OP3 years agoWhat is your point? Are you wanting a debate. I ask the seller a question. That is all.
house*of*paws
·3 years agoI don’t know which of my posts you’re replying to … but my point is that asking a seller why they have a 3-day handling time has nothing to do with an order, and is frankly NOT a buyer’s business. It comes across as rude. JMHO
frugalmarketplace
OP3 years agoYou ship in three days. Any particular reason?
yuzuha
·3 years agoYes. I have a life and another job where I work 8 hours a day away from my house and can't simply drop everything to pack up an order. By the time I get home in the evening, the post office has already closed for the day, so even if I did pack it up right away, the earliest I could possibly get anything shipped would be the next day.
I am sorry that it is so difficult for you to comprehend that not all eBay sellers sit around doing nothing all day except waiting for orders to come in.

·3 years agoIn my opinion you actually enjoyed a good ebay buying experience.
Seller is entitled to have a 3 day handling time.
Not only a new but seasoned sellers may have handling times.
Ebay does not require a seller to reply to buyer questions & you received a tracking number.
Your seller did nothing wrong & did not violate any ebay rule.
May all your future buying experiences continue to be happy ones.

OP3 years agoDid I say the seller did anything wrong? NO.

·3 years agoHi @frugalmarketplace
It's not clear why you expect your new seller to justify a 3-day handling time, which is in line with eBay policy. Could you please explain?
frugalmarketplace
OP3 years agoYou are right, it isn’t clear because I didn’t say that. A seller can do whatever they want. I assume, which is an obvious error, that because I conduct business one way a good seller should be prompt. I will say that to be a TRS “ship in one day†must be pretty important. However three days to “handle†a pair of underwear which requires no more than 10 minutes of a sellers time, including putting it their mailbox for their carrier to pick up “put up the red flag†to me a lazy.
1. Print packing slip
2. Put item in package
3. Print label
4. Attach Label
5. Put in mailbox.

·3 years agoYou don’t know a seller’s circumstances and just because you’re able to ship in 10 minutes doesn’t mean they can.
You also can’t expect the same level of communication from an online seller than from a brick and mortar store.
Personally, one of the reasons I shop online is so I can skip the chit chat.

·3 years agoWhen you purchase an item, especially online, you agree to the business policies of that seller. This seller clearly stated a 3-day handling time. If you needed it sooner, then you should have not purchased it from this seller. It is not the seller's fault for buyers not being able to read the conditions of the sale. I believe the handling times are posted directly below the price of the listing. In the end, this seller did exactly what she advertised to do. Please be sure to read things like this before buying any item. Unfortunately, you own this one.

·3 years agoIf I really needed the item and it hadn't shipping on Day 4 I might message at that point - sellers don't necessarily have easy access to get to the post office daily, or their business plan doesn't allow it for costs, so they told buyers in advance of their handling time.
some sellers may not write English well and avoid it. They sent the tracking number when asked, within the time frame.
So did the OP get the pillow on time? Is it satisfactory?
As a seller, I think I have 5 days handling on my listings, usually everything goes out the next day but if I need to go on a buying or selling mission for a couple of days it gives me a buffer.

·3 years agoIn venues like this, one should not be expecting top service. Yes, sellers should provide it but, many are not full time sellers and don't devote as much time as needed to selling. Flea-markets are were you can find good deals and items not found in other places.

·3 years agoI am not on eBay to have a "penpal".
When someone looks at my items, they have an "estimated delivery" date displayed based upon my handling time. They purchase, I ship within the stated time.
If a buyer messaged me about when I would ship, and why so long before I ship (3 day handling/3 working days per week) there would be no problem, as the sale would be cancelled, and there would be a new addition to my best buddy list.
frugalmarketplace
OP3 years agoI said nothing about a pen pal. If you recall communication is one of the things you rate when leaving feedback. 🙄
buyselljack2016
·3 years agoUnnecessary communication constitutes .................... "pen pal" ðŸ˜
Necessary communication should be rated. Unnecessary communication, or the lack thereof, should not be rated.
frugalmarketplace
OP3 years agoSo asking 1 question is “unnecessary†glad you don’t work in an board and mortar business where you have constant face to face contact 6 days a week. I have owned several B & M business, and it is easier to hide behind a computer.
buyselljack2016
·3 years agoHave over 30 years of dealing with customers "face-to-face".
Selling on eBay is not the same. Selling on eBay for many is to not deal with obvious things that do not need any communication. Info is printed there to be seen. YMMV
Unnecessary questions from "experienced" eBay buyers baffles me🤔
A buyer with thousands (in excess of 5K) of purchases ................................. asking an "unnecessary" question (actually 2) is actually "unnecessary", but defending the action, well, that's just another thing unto itselfðŸ˜

·3 years agoAlthough communication is nice it isn't required.
As for the sellers handling time, they may work, have appointments and or other life obligations or only have access to transportation several times a week.
Sellers are really not required to defend why they have more than a 1 day handling time, IMO.
I have a 3 Day handling time. No one has ever questioned me. Nor would I care to explain it.
frugalmarketplace
OP3 years agoI would not buy from anyone with that long of handling time. It doesn’t take much time to ship orders, and you can have carrier pickup. Some people are more motivated I guess.
bonjourami
·3 years agoOr some people have other heavy obligations..its called 'life'.

·3 years agoBut you did buy from someone with that long a handling time, one that by your own admission was clearly visible in the listing. I guess some people who expect one-day handling are more motivated to actually read listings before they buy.
frugalmarketplace
OP3 years agoThere was no information about handling time. It was in that little tab which I saw this morning.
You did take my words out of context, but that is okay. I did buy from someone with 3 day handling time, but had I seen that I would not have. I hope that clears it up.

Just to satisfy your curiosity..
It doesn’t take time to ship orders, and I do utilize scheduled pick ups when I feel the need.
My buyers like pristine audio discs so they are made at time of purchase so they aren’t sitting around getting marked up.
One audiobook may take 4 hours or more to produce depending on how many discs are involved, if I have several orders like that, there’s no way I can get it out in 1 day or less, therefore, 3 day handling works perfect for me, my buyers don’t seem to mind.
So as for motivation.. happy customers is mine.
oldwestcoins
·3 years agoYet you did buy from this seller that clearly showed a 3-day handling time. You got what you paid for. Quit trying to make this the seller's fault, as it is not in my opinion. I would learn from this experience and just move on. You received many replies here that you disagree with. It really is not that big of a deal. Even Walmart and the big stores do not ship for several days.
reallynicestamps
·3 years agoWhile the seller had a 3 day handling time, she apparently does ship faster, because she was able to supply the tracking number on request.
That sounds like a PYA clause aka Micawber Principle.
Promise three days handling, supply two day handling. Result happy customer.
Promise one day handling, supply two day handling. Result annoyed customer.
In any case, buyers should mark the last estimated date for delivery on their calendar and forget about the order until that date passes.
Tracking is a Seller Protection.
While the seller is responsible for prompt delivery, they are not able to control delivery.
