Clothing excessively scented
I am a regular purchaser of clothing items. When they're used, it seems sellers think we buyers want scent on the clothing. I am a scent sensitive person, and am sometimes made ill from how strong the laundry products used are. I often have to do extra laundering and soaking to remove the scent. When I buy new clothes, they don't come scented. I want to choose my own scents, and don't want to purchase clothing that is scented. I request that eBay advises sellers of used clothing to use unscented laundry products, so that we buyers can choose our own scents. Thanks.

You should either accept it as a possibility or shop where you know your sensitivity will not be exacerbated.

·1 year agoGod, this is a problem - Everything I've bought on Ebay lately reaks of either Febreeze or some other strong fragrance that takes multiple washings following by days hanging outdoors to get rid of. Even new with
tags items! Sellers seem to think this is appealing - its not - and I'm not anti fragrance - its just the scents
they select are so strong even on new items. It's sad to have to do multiple wash loads on single items that look great but are so smelly you can't have them in the house - and it's not that they are musty - its deliberate from someone thinking what they are using smells inviting.!

·1 year agoI appreciate this topic as the issue is not always detergent, and it can benefit sellers to be aware that febreze especially, isn't just a scent issue. I am allergic to febreze, which is made up of a chemical scent that binds to fabrics and can also bind to skin and be very difficult to wash off. While febreze captures odor particles and masks them, the scent that replaces the odor, sticks to everything it touches. Removing it from clothing can take multiple washings and may not be successful. Febreze is now not only a powder and a spray but is included in several laundry detergents. It can cause skin rash and decrease in your ability to smell. I usually develop a rash, headache, and congestion when exposed to it. I try to always ask the seller if they have used febreze, and most people are kind enough to be honest and they understand. But sometimes sellers aren't up front about it and it leaves the buyer in an awkward position when the item arrives and I have to send it back because its heavily scented. So, my suggestion to ebay is to encourage sellers to disclose their use of scented products so that buyers can make an informed decision, and to help sellers be aware of the issue. And, really, it benefits the seller not to treat items with perfumes, because doing so decreases the number of potential customers who might buy their items.

Or don't want scent, i.e., certain scent. Maybe they're drenching the garment with febreze and stuff, to cover up the smell of cigarette smoke and dog dander.

·2 years agoAbsolutely not true, new clothing DOES come “scentedâ€. Clothing in stores especially boutique stores is regularly sprayed with an ionizing “scentâ€.

·2 years agoYou can always rewash it when it arrives. I think it would be a good idea in any case.
It's not always the seller. Plenty of perfume has leaked in the mail. I have received mail more than once that smelled like a Victorian bordello.

·2 years agoThere's no way eBay would ever try to dictate to sellers what laundry products they should use. And how would they ever enforce it? I agree that if you are that scent sensitive perhaps you need to stick to new clothing.

·1 year agoPersonally, if I were as scent-sensitive as some of these posters are, actually becoming ill from scents on clothing, I think I'd confine my clothing shopping to local B&M stores.

Me too, i dont really understand any of these scent sensitive buyers buying any clothing online. Its a problem thats easily solved.

If sensitivity to odors is such a problem that you could become ill, perhaps buying "in person" would be a better plan for you. What is an offensive order to one person, may be just fine to another. I suppose you could always ASK a seller what brand detergent they use before purchasing to make sure it meets your approval.
