Can't Redeem Ebay Mastercard Reward Points in Ebay Checkout - Ongoing Issue
Hi everyone,
I am going to keep this short and sweet, despite the process of it all being quite the opposite. I am incapable of redeeming my thousands of reward points when I go to checkout with an item on Ebay. My account on Synchrony shows that I have thousands of points to redeem and directs me to "Shop Now" on Ebay, yet none of those points translate to Ebay checkout itself.
I've endured numerous chat sessions, numerous calls, numerous transfers between Synchrony, Ebay and even PayPal, too, I believe. No one knows how to solve this issue and just transfers me to somewhere else, who often transfers me back to square one. It has literally become a loop of transfers that gets me nowhere and more often than not on an eternal hold.
This is absolutely ridiculous. I've researched this issue, and clearly many other people have experienced the same issue since 2020! Almost three years of incompetence. @realcoolcarscom started a threat in April 2022 speaking about this same issue. @mattheheilman-0 @mt73070 @*sole*star* @hjferrucho @cla-284530 all claimed they had the same issue on that thread.
I hope more people can come together as we are stronger in numbers. It is abhorrent that we've been oppressed for so long getting pinballed around these customer service lines, all while simply trying to do what was advertised to us when we signed up for an Ebay Mastercard.
Please comment if you are having this issue and someone please help. Thank you!

·2 years agoI'm sure you already know this as you are considering litigation. There is a statement in every banking instrument stating "Terms subject to change & termination at any time." This normally comes with written notice via the bank itself & not the service affiliated with it. i suggest you contact the bank & get it resolved.

·2 years agoWe have points on eBay credit card worth $2k+
my wife a CPA was on the line with 5 supervisors from eBay and eBay master card, NO ONE COULD HELP!
A class action lawsuit should be prepared.

·2 years agoDo what I do.
Redeem the points to your PayPal balance.
Then purchase from there if you want. IN my case I redeem to PayPal balance, then move to my PayPal Savings and save up for a year. (at 4.3 APY in there).
Last year alone, I had saved up nearly 1500 dollars worth of card rewards, between my Chase and PayPal cards. (I move all my reward points monthly to that savings account, rather than let them sit on the card) Already over 300 for this year.
Just need to be smarter. But moving them to the PayPal balance is a way around the problem for you.

·2 years agoCan you tell me now to do this (Redeem points to Paypal balance)
I go to my wallet, see my linked reward cards and their rewards balances but don't see the steps on how to move those $$$ to my PayPal balance?

·2 years agoWait, this is an eBay card isn't it?
Then my mistake. That would only work on a PayPal Mastercard. Sorry about that!
Only option you would have would be to redeem to your checking or whatever that is linked to the card, then transfer that back to PayPal Balance, but that's a whole hell of a lot more work and waiting.
Though it would make a hell of a lot more sense for it to work directly on their own website. Not sure what else to suggest, sounds like its bugged.
Try a different browser? Make sure you don't have any blockers running? Computer vs a mobile, or vice versa?

·2 years agoI am sorry you are having this problem, OP, but I don't think you understand what it is to be truly oppressed. Perhaps you are just a tad dramatic?

·2 years agoI don't consider it oppression myself. I just consider it a rip-off. I got an eBay Mastercard mainly because it was like if eBay continued the eBay bucks thing. But I have had teh card for over a year, have tried, but can never get and option to use my "Rewards" at checkout. I really think I will ditch the eBay card soon. There is zero advantage to using it, in fact a disadvantage from countless other cards that have a true cash back rewards program.

OP2 years agoI mean, I think it's a pretty fitting description. I've tried dozens of times to get in contact with Ebay and Synchrony's support teams, both of which ping-pong me back and forth. Most of the agents have no idea what they're talking about, spewing random company lines that have zero to do with the matter at hand. Not to mention, every time I call in I have to go through a long automated questionnaire until I can reach a real person. I've been told countless times "I promise I will get back to you in no more than two weeks" just to never hear back. At the end of the day, our concerns are never addressed. This issue has gone on for years and continues to rage on. It's pathetic, laughable and antithetical to what Ebay stands for. I've loved Ebay for years, but this shows the ugly under belly that not many see. I don't know why they continue their partnership with Synchrony, a company that seems to only be tarnishing their reputation.
So, sure maybe I am being a bit dramatic, but as far as customer service goes, it's horrendous.
For those curious, still no solution to this goofy ordeal.

·2 years agoSo you are saying you do not have any freedoms here in the USA? That is what oppressed means.
I 'm 100% sure you can use your rewards points somewhere else.
\Ebay is allowed to exercise their polices.

·2 years agoDoes it just not show your rewards points or does it not let you use them? Like on eBay checkout does it show a balance? or Does it show zero balance?
There are certain categories you can't purchase using rewards $. You can NOT spend rewards $ or gift cards or other such forms of payment on coins/currency/bullion among many other things. It all has to do with government regulation, money laundering laws and probably the PATRIOT Act (anti-terrorism). They want traceable payment methods for certain categories and items.

OP2 years agoReward points do NOT show up in Ebay checkout. It shows a balance of $0.00 despite Synchrony saying thousands of points are available to redeem. I've been through the categories with the Synchrony support team multiple times, and it has nothing to do with that. I've tested it on every type of item under the sun.

·2 years agoEbay and Synchrony blame the problem on each other. Synchrony says it redeems the credits each month
on thier end - but I can;t find the credits on my synchrony statements. When you see how other banks like citi handle reward credits -it makes synchrony look pathetic. I am goin to quit using my ebay card and opt for a 2% cash back purchase with Citi double cash reward card.

·2 years agoJust wanted to add - this is obviously a huge problem and it probably needs to be addressed with a class action law suit against ebay and synchrony. My synchrony statement although it is showing some kind of point redemption b y them , also describes how to redeem the points on ebay, which does not work.
This whole thing must have really been ill thought out.
