Can't leave negative feedback?
After opening a dispute because item was never received and having the dispute ruled in favor of the seller and then my appeal denied and then the buyer protection refund request denied, I am out over $300 for an item from Greece that was never received and USPS does not show the item was ever delivered. But, it's eBay's playground, lesson learned after 23 years as a member. But, then when I post a negative feedback on the seller because he has my money and I never got the item, the feedback is never posted or counted against his 100 percent positive score and the option to leave feedback on the order detail page is gone. So, eBay allows this theft and then prevents others from being warned against theft? That's an interesting business model.

·2 years agoDoes tracking show that the seller SENT the item? If so, IMO, your issue is NOT with the seller but with the service, USPS, they used. They did what they were supposed to do. Me, I'd try filing a claim with USPS. As a seller, when I have to issue refunds due to lost mail, thats what I do, and I usually get a check from USPS. As a buyer, it's worth a shot...GL

OP2 years agoSo, in my situation, the USPS just gave up after 90 days and the pac kage was never found. If I werethe seller and paid for the postage, I would have a claim with the USPS. As a buyer, who did not pay for the postage, I cannot presume I have any legal standing to do so as the seller is entitled to make that claim, not me. Discover Card originally issued me a credit and then, based on fraudulent material sent by the seller denied my claim as he showed proof of delivery. But his proof was to another name, to another stae and on another item, but other than that, lefit. So I appealed the Discover Card ruling and as of now, am still receiving the credit for my purchase as I never received the item. But ????

·2 years agoI just had the same experience as "signup". I paid for a pricy item (a KitchenAid range hood blower) plus $150 S&H. A plain box in bad shape was pictured abandoned at my front door at 3:30 PM. When I arrived from work the box was not there. I asked the seller how could he deliver such a valuable item without a signature and insurance. Opened a dispute and eBay ruled in favor of the seller, then my appeal was denied and then the buyer protection refund request was denied. When I tried to leave negative feedback on the seller the feedback was never posted so the seller remains with a 100 percent positive score.

Ebay requires signature confirmation if the transaction total, including shipping, is greater than $750. If the total was less than that eBay protection doesn't cover porch pirates. The reason your negative feedback wasn't allowed is that your case was decided in favor of the seller. When that happens no feedback can be left.

·2 years agoNice business model eBay!! The item that I bought had "eBay money back warranted" banner. I believed it so I paid ~$400 for a KitchenAid Hood motor. The seller sent it in a semi-opened box that was abandoned at my front door while I was at work (3:38 PM UPS picture). By the time I got home, the box was not there. UPS does not take my claim because I am not the sender. The seller did not ask for signature confirmation or shipping insurance despite the value of the item and that I paid $150 for S&H. eBay claims no responsibility but has the right to censor the negative feedback I tried to post so the seller keeps his immaculate 100% service score. After reviewing this experience I realized the only two things could do differently next time are: not going to work the days in which a delivery from eBay could occur (not possible) or not using eBay ever again.

·2 years ago"I'm curious how a porch pirate (by your own admission) is the fault of eBay or the seller?"
Not requiring a signature confirmation for delivery on a $400 item seems a bit irresponsible.
kathiec
·2 years agoThat's a subjective call. Ebay only requires it for packages over $750. Many buyers dislike signature confirmation because they work and have issues picking up packages at the PO. If you wanted SC added you should have made that known to the seller.

OP2 years agoThat parcelsap.com site is very helpful. Escpecially when the USPS is waisting their time tracking my package that has been returned to seller. And, the time line is very interesting. While eBay is denying my dispute and not allowing me to leave negative feedback, the seller actually has the item returned and in their possession.
wastingtime101
·2 years agoeBay would still deny your non-receipt claim because the package was returned to sender, according to tracking, for an insufficient address. That voids buyer MBG protections on an item not received claim.
wastingtime101
·2 years agoSignature confirmation is not required unless the total transaction is $750+. If you want sig conf on a transaction less than $750 you need to ask the seller before you make the purchase @marcelo12 .
Insurance does not come in to play when the item is delivered. The carrier will not pay out claims for porch theft after a package is delivered, nor will eBay. You can file a claim with your homeowner's insurance and file a report with the local police.
Things to do different next time:
- Ask the seller before making a purchase if they can add signature confirmation
- Sign up with the carrier so you can have packages held at their facility for pickup
- Have the package delivered to you at work, or delivered to a friend/family/neighbor that will be home

Anyway, you stated that you opened a case with the credit card company. Great. I do have a question, are you sure that the name and address on this transaction is correct and complete? IF yes, I honestly do NOT know why you lost the case. If the seller printed the label from the ebay site, the address would be what you wrote. But if they copied it and omitted something, that would be the seller's fault. Keep fighting it with the credit card. Take a photo of the name and address that shows on this transaction as the ship to address proving that it's correct.
I would also go to the post office or send the mechanic (give him a 2 hour lunch, he probably deserves it) and have him go to the post office and ask them to see if they can find the package and forward to you. You do NOT want that box going back to Greece.
Goodluck.
If you lose with the credit card company, contact Ebay on Facebook.

OP3 years agoHe is very elderlay and not computer literate. That is why I orderd the part and had it shipped directly to him in the first place. Bottom line is that mail get's lost every day, but this experience with eBay closing disputes and not tellin me why and their foreign speaking customer service agents just reading a script and not telling me why the dispute got closed and then telling me it's been submitted for a manual refund and not telling me it was denied. If it was denied buyer protection due to the alledged insufficient address, eBay knew that before submitting it to buyers protection. So, why waste everyone's time if the address was a valid reason for denial.
And, a new wrinkle in this saga. When I go to my recent purchases, this item is classified in that catagory under eBay's classification "Awaiting Shipment". If eBay and the seller are representing that this item was delivered, why are they labeling the order as "Awaiting Shipment"?

OP3 years agoMy local postal agent suggested that since the item made it all the way from Greece to Athens, GA the address was, indeed, sufficient. But, if the label got damaged in transit or the package got damaged so that the address could not be read, it would show as insufficient.
And, I thought the seller lost all his protection if he shipped to an unconfirmed address. But, if this address thing is the key, it would have been nice for eBay to state that, not just rule against me.
Well, I've disputed the charge on my credit card, we'll see where that gets me. I'm not about to eat $300 and go quietly into that good night.
kathiec
·3 years agoAnd, I thought the seller lost all his protection if he shipped to an unconfirmed address.
The whole confirmed address business was dropped years ago when eBay sold Paypal. Now eBay populates the checkout with the shipping address in your account. The buyer has the option to change that address during the checkout process. That address is then sent to the seller. If the seller is printing the shipping label through eBay it will be automatically populated with that address.
signsup
OP3 years agoSo, the way this dispute is going, eBay probably screwed up the shipping address when they sent it to the seller and I am being screwed for an "insufficient" address that was not. And taking a picture of the shipping label to show eBay that it was a valid address would imply that I actualy had received the item, or at least the box with the label on it which I have not.
Yes, a trace has been put on the package by someone posing as the receipiant to try to salvage something out of this experience. Intersting reading the newer threads above this thread dealing with items not received and eBay providing no help to the buyers. A pattern?

·3 years ago@signsup
eBay sent the seller the address straight off your payment receipt. There is no more evidence that eBay ... or the seller ... made a mistake than that you made one.
BTW, the seller didn't 'choose' USPS shipping. They chose a shipping company in Greece that apparently transferred to USPS when the packaged reached the US.
Something similar happened to me when an item shipped from Germany via DHL was transferred to USPS when it reached the US and was (temporarily) lost. My seller was very communicative ... and tried to be helpful ... but explained to me that they had no way to contact USPS directly from Germany.
You will almost definitely get refunded by your credit card company ... while your seller will likely be out both the money and the item. I'm very sorry you've been having this difficulty ... and I truly hope you will repay the seller if the package ever reaches you after you've been refunded.

OP3 years agoTracking Number: CP410748730GR
This item has been lost in the USPS system since June 19th. The seller refused to file a claim or search with USPS as he is in Greece and has no info on USPS. My position is that he chose USPS, not me and he has shipped to my mechanic who is not getting paid to search for lost mail. And I am not the shipper or the receipiant, so USPS will not provide info to me. When seller refused to do anything towards locating this item, I opened dispute with eBay. Now, you tell me after looking at the USPS tracking info how I can loose the dispute, loose the appeal and loose the buyers protection guarantee and the ability to leave negative feedback. It boggles the mind.

That tracking number reports "The Missing Mail Search Request for your item has been closed as of 12:09 am on October 6, 2023."
But it didn't say why the request was closed. Did they find it, or did they give up?
wastingtime101
·2 years agoNo it hasn't @signsup . That package was returned to the seller. Track it on parcelsapp.com
On June 3rd it cleared customs in the US. Then you see activity on USPS.com showing what happened between the 3rd and the 19th with some kind of insufficient address info while it was in the US.
On June 27th it resurfaced in Greece and on July 4th was delivered back to the seller.

Generally negative feedback saying not received is removed if you lose a case or if tracking shows it was delivered.
