Greetings Community,
I bought items recently at a pretty good pricing. Expected to be delivered next week. Seller reaches out to me stating that s/he does not have the items I bought but can only fulfill half of it and asked if that is acceptable. I am thinking obviously that is not acceptable. Seller offers to cancel the order and provide full refund if it is not acceptable. So I said to cancel the order. Seller then tells me that the items will be restocked in September. I have an inkling feeling that the seller is going to relist the items later at higher price. One of the item in the pack is already relisted by the seller.
I noticed that in the cancellation reason, it states 'Buyer asked to cancel'. I did not outright ask for cancellation but it is because seller cannot fulfill what I bought. Seller initiated the cancellation.
Is this normal? Have any of you encountered this behavior? What are your thoughts on this?

·4 months agoYes this has happened before. I would report the seller for selecting the wrong reason and move on.

·4 months agoI would suggest moving on with your life. You said "cancel" that allows them to select "Buyer asked to cancel".
Ebay punishes cancellations for out of stock entirely too harshly, so sellers are forced to try to get around the system if they actually have a stock issue. Seller may have had a physical card store or also been selling on tcgplayer and may have oversold in a very short period of time if the values on something changed. With card game stuff it can happen literally in a matter of hours, the price can spike on something and every copy of it on the internet at the old price will sell instantly and some of those copies will be the same ones on multiple websites.
Pursuing this isn't going to put those Pokemon cards in your hands.

·4 months agoI just had one of these (I can't find it" moments) I DID NOT feel "forced" to lie about the reason. Contacting a buyer to try to trick them into saying the rights words so they can use Buyer Requested is a slimy move that can backfire badly if you come on a buyer such as me who would report these lies every time.
If a seller wants to lie to me about the reason for cancelling I have no hesitation to report them.

·4 months agoThat's a different story because according to OP, the seller doesn't have a stock issue. They have a price issue which I find more abusive. It's not a "they can't" ship the item, but rather "they won't."

·4 months agoThe original poster "suspected" a price issue. The seller claimed it was a stock issue.
In any case nothing is going to put that item in the original poster's hands and trying to punish the seller is just going to burn his bridge in what he seems to purchase, which is sealed Japanese Pokemon products that rarely see import to the US. There isn't an unlimited number of those vendors.
I tend to favor the sellers in this area as the ebay punishments for out of stock are literally worse than anything else you can do on the platform, and bad luck can cause this to hit literally any seller. He could have shipped a rock, or marked it sold and sent nothing and he would have been better off then cancelling the order for being out of stock.
Also, the looking at the original poster's feedback I would say that those who live in glass houses should not throw rocks.

??????? I see nothing untoward in either the OP's feedback received or left.

·4 months agoYou may favor sellers who are lying, but this creates revolving door approach that punishes buyers by causing unnecessary delays to get wanted products..and according to OP, seller already relisted one item…

·4 months agoReport to eBay that the seller lied about the reason for cancelling. They should have used "Out Of Stock" but didn't because that will cause problems for them.
