Cancel order
I cancelled an order after purchase 8 hours prior. Seller says if he cancels now funds will come out of his back account said to wait 2 days because eBay is processing payment . After that he will start the refund process . This doesn’t sound right.

·7 months agoHave you been scammed now @goodintentions13 int hat afte r3 days eBay automatically canceled your cancel request ,you did not get your refund as we all thought ,and now your order will have to be shipp?ed

·7 months agoLots of sellers here giving OP a hard time, which doesn't feel fair. What is the point of questioning their decision to cancel this order? That is neither helpful nor useful. Sure it is annoying to a seller to get a cancellation, but it is part of being in business. Deal with it.
As a buyer, I would not return to a seller who waited two days to refund my money. Yes, the funds are still processing. But I've never had ebay bill my credit card to cover a cancelled order. And even if they did, I would just pay it back after the funds cleared - and enjoy that 1.5% cash back!
If your funds are so tight that you can't refund a buyer right away - maybe you should not be running a business. Just my 5 cents.

·7 months agoAnd, also, to be clear, a buyer cannot unilaterally cancel an order. He can request that the seller do so, but the seller is not required to do so. Most smart sellers will do so, of course, in order to avoid the scenario where they refuse to cancel, ship the item and then the buyer opens an NAD case.
This story also illustrates the need for buyers to be very cautious when ordering in order to avoid what happened to the OP.

·7 months agoBuyers cannot cancel orders. They can only request that the seller cancels the order,

·7 months agoI agree the seller was being honest and about avalable funds.
That being said I would avoid this seller in the future that doesn't have the foresight to have working capital on the books to cover returns.
I wouldn't get all angry about it, I would lose confidence with said seller though. Their financial situation shouldn't come into play with a return or any other aspect of a transaction.

·7 months agoWe don't anything about this seller, what was purchased, or how much the order was. Let's say it is a $700 item. I've got $700 in the bank, but I am not going to cancel the order until the buyer's payment has processed.
Buyers need to be more careful when they order. How exactly does someone "order by mistake?" It is fine to change your mind, just be honest and then be willing to be patient with the seller. The single mom trying to earn a little extra money may be the best seller in the world. I don't think they should necessarily be avoided just because they are operating within eBay's rules. They don't even have to cancel the order.

·7 months agoYou are correct in that the seller didn't have to cancel the order. They did though and therefore should refund without delay.
As I said I wouldn't get all angry but would not buy from that seller again. Their personal circumstances are none of my business or concern.
I've never asked to cancel an order though and would probably expect a seller to block me if I did...so there's that..............................

·7 months agoTo be fair, why should a seller have to cover the refund from their funds available to give the buyer an 'instant refund' for a cancellation request?
If a buyer ordered by mistake, found a better price, blah blah yada yada, then they shouldn't be surprised if the refund isn't instant.
It certainly isn't elsewhere when you cancel an order.

Because they agree to the cancellation and the funds were "instant" going their way (at least from my account). As I said I wouldn't get all bent out of shape about it but would lose confidence in future business with a seller that doesn't have working capital set aside for such scenarios.
I've never asked to cancel an order but never lagged paying for one either.......................

·7 months agoGiven that a LOT of sellers on ebay don't exactly have deep pockets, it would likely also depend on the amount of the sale as to whether the seller has enough back up funds to be able to return the buyer's amount.

·7 months agoEveryone is correct @goodintentions13 and you were wise to come here where we all know how eBay works. Since you requested to cancel after paying for your purchase, the seller has 3 days to ignore your cancel request and your order won't be canceled.
And since the seller hasn't shipped yet, the funds won't be released in time to refund you from their available funds. So yes, you too are correct, this doesn't sound right.

If they are not being held, the funds should be avaliable in a couple days.

If they don't have the avaliable funds, they have to cover the refund until your payment clears.
Some sellers might not have the extra money to cover a refund until the funds are avaliable.

·7 months agoYour seller is telling the truth. Payments take a few days to process. If you request a refund before the funds have processed, the seller cannot just reverse your payment, they have to front the refund until your payment is available.

·7 months agoSeller is totally 100% correct.
Buyer funds are processing(yours) before it goes into his available funds to refund you.
Seller will refund you in a few days.
And it sounds like the seller is extremely honest.
Some sellers won't even tell you what's going on and just cancel your purchase after 2 days and not before.
