Can I cancel a transaction?
I'm trying to buy a mobility scooter and the seller doesn't respond to messages (I asked the age of batteries and the speed it can go). Also, they aren't posting any tracking number. I asked if they would let me know when they send it so I can be here to get it when it comes. Still no answer. Should I ask for the transaction to be canceled? Other sellers have contacted me with nice scooters who act like they'd like to actually sell their scooter! Thanks a lot for your opinion.

OP7 months agoIn case anyone is asking, I got the refund! No tracking did it. Again, my deep thanks to all who helped me. It helped in several ways. You are the best! 😘😍😘

·7 months ago@buyologist-3 Congratulations, but jeez did it take THIS long to get refunded? You had said you paid on Jan. 11th and today is Feb. 21st! Also did you find a better seller (here or elsewhere) and get a scooter like you needed?
buyologist-3
OP7 months agoI sure did. A seller that's selling an array of scooters/carts, so that told me they were serious sellers. My new one is a Metro Scooter's Max Pro! All the perks that we all like such as suspension (smooth ride), rear brake lights, 2 cup holders, phone charger, high back plush seat, and in crimson red! (Smiles!) And the size fits the lift I added to my car. So, a very happy ending!
Thanks for asking and big hugs for the suggestions and interest/care. It REALLY helped!

OP7 months agoP.S. And YES, it took forever. But I had the time which probably frustrated the 'bots! Ha! 😁

·7 months agoWhat a happy ending, thanks for the updates!

·8 months agoTracking is approximate and not always accurate or updated. Allow for delay due to a holiday weekend. Give it a couple of days more then contact the seller.

OP8 months agoI will try that. Makes sense! Too many sellers get dinged for something that's not their fault. Thanks!

·8 months agoIt'd be nice if the video showed it running, or even panned around a bit. That's the least going on in any video I've seen!
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoWasn't it? It shows how little this seller knows about making a listing! To me, it's logical but I see too often bad pics, blurry pics and when too close to the flash so all details are gone. But that video was almost 1 second long! 🤣 But posted it anyway. Good point you had!
gurlcat
·8 months agoI think that 1-second video was from accidentally switching from photo to video on their phone (happens to me all the time), then immediately realizing it and stopping the recording, but not deleting the video ... then including it in their listing without noticing that either.
Listings with blurry pics .... oy, sometimes it's the funniest thing I see all day, like ones that aren't merely out of focus but dramatically blurred, like they were extremely drunk and swaying constantly. 🤣

·8 months agoObviously you had been searching for scooters....why did you choose this one and this buyer? Especially when you never received answers to your questions? The confidence with this item should have been low, very low.
FWIW, on all used items that come with batteries, all buyers should assume they need to be replaced. Do you know how easy it is to get new batteries for the scooter you picked out? This is something buyers need to look into before ever buying items that require specialty batteries. Often time the batteries cost more than the item.
File an item not received claim ASAP. You have given this seller too many unwarranted excuses in your mind

·8 months agoOr are no longer available to purchase! I found this out the hard way with an electric lawnmower I bought once. It wasn't even used; I bought it from Walmart online. It was steeply discounted and looked great, in fact it WAS great ... but then only a few months after purchasing, I forgot to bring the battery indoors the last time I used it before a couple of deep freeze nights, and killed the battery. Turned out the reason for that steep discount was the mower was being discontinued, and so was the exclusively-compatible battery for it. 😫

OP8 months agoThat hurts to read! I think that happens a lot here on eBay. They even joke about it on Big Bang Theory! I'm sorry that happened to you. It's easy to forget about the weather sometimes. My sis borrowed my camera a few yrs back and I was shocked to see it sitting outside all by itself. I held back killing her.
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoI agree. I've been a seller, so I guess that's my angle of thinking. Thanks.

·8 months agoI wouldn't have touched that listing with a 10 foot pole.
No feedback
No real info about the item
People will make a listing and then do nothing when it sells because they are hoping to scam someone.
You want to open an item not received case if able, eBay will get you your money back.
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoI did and they have it as a Not Received, so now I'm waiting to finish it either today or tomorrow. Happy ending! I'll let everyone know if I ever hear from that seller again.

·8 months agoWould you be comfortable telling us the listing so we can take a better look?

OP8 months agoThere IS an update! 1) Here is the item number: 196809782440
2) I did file a 'Cancel Transaction' stating the scooter hasn't been sent and no messaging from them.
Now, from me here: This is so weird that I'm wondering if they got sick---really sick. There are several strains of flu and covid, etc. going around and some aren't up to the fight. Otherwise, why would anyone make a listing and then stop everything when the item sells? I saw 2 separate motorcycle wrecks yesterday with one being dead. It made me think. If I'm able to leave feedback, I'm not going to be as upset as I was thinking of being. Something must be wrong.
I'll come back here but I want to thank everyone for their help and good advice. We are very lucky that you come here to help. There are no ppl at ebay and we would be in big trouble without you! 😘

·8 months agoSince you are the buyer, you can request a cancellation, but I only the seller can actually cancel the order. If they are unresponsive or malicious, that’s not going to happen. Make sure you file an Item Not Received claim as advised.
bashort
·8 months agowhat you need to do is wait to get it and evaluate its actual condition as compared to how the seller described it. It also needs to fulfil the requirements for the item condition it was sold as for instance If it was listed as used it should be functional.
If it is in significantly worse condition than described or non functional on a used condition item then open a not as described return
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoI tried to give you a Helpful but it wouldn't take. His description was weak but the photos was what I went by. You make some good points and plan to use them! That's one of the reasons I use ebay to buy. There's recourse. I've almost never use it unless it's blantant, but it's nice to know we can. Thanks for your very professional answer. I can see why you have the Rock Star rating!

·8 months agoYou bought a scooter.
You paid for it.
What shipping service was noted in the listing?
How long is the seller's window for shipping?
This type of item is usually Local Pickup, so your seller might be expecting you to come get it.
Have you tried telling them you will be there on Sunday at 11am --just to see how they react?
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoIt's supposed to come today and has a week time span.
No, I paid almost $300. for shipping, so he knows I'm not coming there. I giggled about telling him I'm coming there on Sunday at 11. That might actually work to get his attention and a response! 😆

·8 months agoIf the last estimated delivery date as seen in the listing was 01/16/26, then you could have opened an item not received case yesterday the 17th.
Apparently you have chosen to wait a little longer for some reason, but please be aware that you have just 30 days after the 16th to open an item not received case with eBay.
Have you read the eBay Money Back Guarantee for buyers? It offers very good protection if/when a purchase goes wrong. The catch is that the buyer has to read it, understand it and use it in a timely fashion.
Hope this works out for you and also hope that you'll return and update us on the outcome.
bonanza125
·8 months agoAs others stated this is why it is very important to ask questions before buying. You have committed to this transaction and you do have rights. If the seller is unable to provide a transaction number by 1 day after the estimated delivery date you can file an "item not received" case. That's pretty much were you are at now if the seller doesn't reply to your messages.
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoVery helpful, thanks! I'm going to do that. 😘

·8 months agoTo provide a tracking number?

OP8 months agoJust in case: 196809782440. Try messaging them and see if you get anything. Will it work with an item that is sold?
stephenmorgan
·8 months agoSince that is a new seller only listing the one item, I would say their inexperience with using eBay is why you have not heard back from them. They may have taken the scooter somewhere to be packaged and shipped to you and do not know how to enter the tracking information into eBay.
If you do not receive it, file a claim Item Not Received.
gurlcat
·8 months agoI agree 100%. There are actual (not stock) photos, it's pre-owned, possibly an 'estate' item of the person who used it, and maybe someone told the family members they would get the best price for it on eBay, so this is the first time they listed something. A scammer would more likely list some super-desirable electronic or fashion item or whatever.
Also, not that there aren't scammers in the world who would take advantage of disabled people, but I'd say "used disability products" are probably at the bottom of the list of scams, lol.
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoVERY true! Thankfully. Usually I don't have problems here, but this category is filled with them. It's like stepping thru the Looking Glass! Thanks!
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoYeah~~ I did that and it will end soon. Never again! I can't imagine putting something expensive on ebay and then ignoring it and the buyer. Thanks!

·8 months agoWhile I am persuaded (by looking at the listing, including the photos showing an obviously used scooter) that this was a legitimate listing, I doubt that this is going to lead to a successful delivery, as a zero-feedback seller of a sizeable scooter may have absolutely no idea how to pack and ship it. I get the sense from looking at the listing that Aunt Martha finally expired, and now the family is try to unload her possessions via any means possible.
gurlcat
·8 months agoHa JINX!! But if you agree it's probably a legit listing, why do you think it won't get delivered?
a_c_green
·8 months agoOh, that's easy: have you ever tried to pack one? ðŸ˜
Putting ourselves in the newbie seller's shoes: They're all happy about getting a paid sale in the hundreds of dollars... only now the reality hits that they don't have a box big enough for it (unless Aunt Martha saved the original carton, and even then they'll have to disassemble it back to its original shipping form in order to have any chance of getting it closed up inside).
Looking at the Sold listing in question here, I'm seeing a USPS Ground Advantage Shipping charge to Chicago of $160, USPS GA will only allow package weight up to 70 pounds, and on-line info for this model of scooter quote it as about 160 pounds in weight. It will need to travel in either multiple smaller boxes or via some other carrier.
Listing this for Local Pickup Only would have saved them a world of extra risk and expense, especially the risk of having it arrive damaged and having to refund the buyer in full. They might give it the ol' college try and figure out some way of shipping it (such as paying retail at the UPS Store to have them do it), but even with their best efforts, it may not arrive safely, or may be found to be non-working regardless.
gurlcat
·8 months agoLOL I didn't notice the GA shipping. Okay, if they didn't even do the sitting down/internet/phone calls part of research before listing, then you're undoubtedly right about the physical packing part too. 😂
wastingtime101
·8 months agoNot only would it exceed USPS weight/dim limits, but the battery would likely exceed USPS hazmat limits. Something like this would have to go UPS or possibly even LTL if they can't disassemble.
No way that item is getting shipped. Classic example of newbie jumping in blind. Probably didn't know there would be payment holds either, and may have even forgot they listed the item to begin with.
Buyer will get resolution through a non-receipt claim and I'd wager they will have to ask eBay to step in after a few days.
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoExcellent points! I figured they did their homework BEFORE listing. Duh....
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoThat's how most scooters and wheelchairs get sold. It reminds them of "Aunt Martha" and they try to sell it quickly. If they don't wait long and the batteries die! It's a great way to get a deal on something that's very pricey. Spinlife has them brand new. Check out how $$ they can get!
gloryglorygifts
·8 months agoYou can't cancel a transaction if it has already shipped. If you were provided tracking, it has shipped.
If you purchased it and it hasn't shipped, you ask to cancel it. Here is the ebay guideline on how to do that. https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/buyers-can-cancel-order/buyers-can-cancel-order?id=4004&st=3&pos=2&query=How%20buyers%20can%20cancel%20an%20order&intent=cancel%20a%20transaction&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1019.
"Other sellers have contacted me with nice scooters who act like they'd like to actually sell their scooter! " It sounds like you are still shopping around because no seller will just reach out to you. There is absolutely no way for a seller to know who is even looking at their items, unless you have contacted them. Just because this seller didn't respond to you, doesn't mean that they aren't willing to sell it to you. Sellers don't have to respond to messages. it's not a good way to run a business, but it happens. The fact that the seller didn't answer before you bought it tells me that you shouldn't have bought it from them.
I hope this info helps you. Good luck.
momtoabeautifuldaughter
·8 months agoI am confused? Is this a local pickup item or does it have shipping?
You have purchased a mobility scooter, not trying to purchase one.
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoI paid nearly 300 bucks to have it sent. I'm trying because so far I have gotten zero response to the purchase, or questions and so far, ebay has the $ and he has the scooter and I'm sitting here with ziltch. It'll probably come and even tho' I asked to be told it's sent so I can be sure to be here for it, nothing. I still hold hope (like a dope according to the burnouts here.) Thanks!

·8 months agoYou're not "trying" to buy a mobility scooter, it looks like you did buy a mobility scooter.
You should ask questions BEFORE (not after) you buy something.
If the seller is unresponsive to your questions, don't buy from them. Simple.
A seller is not required to answer your questions.
The tracking number should show up automatically on the transaction once the item has been shipped.
What is the sellers handling time on this item?
Yes, you can request to the seller to cancel the transaction.
gurlcat
·8 months agoDo you mean you are trying to get answers about an item you already paid for? Why not ask before?
Regarding the tracking number, what date did you pay for the item?
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoI bought on Sunday, the 11th. I asked the questions both before and after and with the low feedback score I probably shouldn't have done it. I think everybody has nearly the same selling goal and approach as I do. I answer fast and send the same day if it's not too late, then the next day inputting the tracking number. Also, this category is tough. Local pickup only and the same approach to messaging. The ones who've contacted me with offers are really good by comparison! 😊
gurlcat
·8 months ago@buyologist-3 I hope not to sound insulting but your communication is a bit "Do you walk to school or carry your lunch?'
Your OP had contradictions, and so does this^ reply. I don't understand "Also this category is tough. Local pickup only and the same approach to messaging."
So I can only guess you mean the mobility scooter category .... large, extremely heavy item; makes sense to have local pickup only. So then why do you expect a tracking number for the one you bought?? Also how do scooter sellers have the "same approach to messaging"? -Same as what? Local messaging only? Same approach as you (same day messaging)? Tough ..... messaging? 🤣
Sorry, it's just hard to make sense of what you're saying.
luckythewinner
·8 months agoCan I cancel a transaction?
You can ask the seller to cancel the transaction. But if it has shipped, he will probably not do that.
As a seller, when I get a buyer who appears to be high-maintenance - like asking questions after purchasing - I tend to delay shipping and hope that they get anxious and ask to cancel so I will not have to deal with them.
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoGreat! I'm going to do that and the least that'll happen is he'll talk to me. You gave good advice and didn't chew me out. I appreciate you. Thanks!
a_c_green
·8 months ago@buyologist-3 : Those contacts (or offers) you received are probably triggered automatically by your simply viewing the listing, unless you did actually send the other sellers messages about their items.
Assuming that the scooter arrives as expected, be careful to check it out thoroughly and get back to us here promptly if there are problems. There are junk-quality scooters shipped from China and some scams that don't deliver a scooter at all (e.g. they mail some trinket to another address within your ZIP code in order to "prove" Delivery Confirmation and avoid an Item Not Received claim), so please keep us updated on what's happening.
soh.maryl
·8 months agoWere there none of these for sale in your general location?
And local pick up would have been a good idea.
buyologist-3
OP8 months agoYeah, you're right. I'll keep that in mind.
