I have this message on my account that is preventing me from making any purchases:
“We've restricted your account from bidding on items or making offers because we've seen activity that doesn't follow our policies. You can still buy items on eBay if you use Buy It Now and pay promptly.“
My account is brand new so I’m not sure what activity they could be referring to. From what I’ve seen in other posts like this, this is potentially happening because my account is new and I need to “prove” that I’m a reliable buyer. Fine, except I don’t seem to be able to select the Buy Now option on any item where it’s available, even ones for less than $10.
Please, I just want to buy a stupid Steam Deck, what do I need to do to resolve this? eBay’s customer support is non-existent.

This is a message sent to buyers who haven't paid for items they've committed to buy. How many items have you either bid on (auction listings) or purchased (fixed price listings) but haven't paid for?

OP4 months agoNone - the account is brand new and I have been restricted from the start. I haven’t even had the opportunity to not pay for anything lol.
Since making this post I have been able to bid/buy outright on some items so I think it’s possible the restrictions were just lifted with time, OR the fact that I added several legit credit cards and verified my email/phone number was enough for eBay to relax.

·4 months ago@nikki_dubs ,
When signing up to use ebay did you enter a credit card, debit card and the bank account it is registered to, or an accepted electronic payment method to your Payments information? You need to do that before you can buy from your new account. Without a registered payment method you can't even buy a $10 item.
As @gone.c-33 , wrote, as a new member you do have limits on how much you can spend and/or the number of items you can purchase at one time, until you prove to be a reliable buyer.
If you do a Google search for "New member limits or restrictions, ebay buying" and enable A.I. responses. There is more information about the limits in the A.I. article than is posted in the link below. which is on the same page.

While you are at it, you should also open and read the info in the link below about how ebay's Money Back Guarantee (MBG) works and the time frames for using it. There is a link to the policy on every listing page in the right hand column, under the accepted payment method icons, under the Shop with confidence header, click on Learn more.

OP4 months agoThanks for the detailed reply. I did add a payment method as well as verify my email/phone number but that didn’t seem to make a difference at first…now it seems to be working.
Confusing, but I’m glad it got sorted. I wish eBay would be clearer about it.

·4 months agoeBay imposes buyer limits on new accounts. You might want to purchase a few lower priced items first.
nikki_dubs
OP4 months agoAs stated in the post, I haven’t been able to purchase cheaper items either.

Put the item you want to buy into your shopping cart, then go to checkout and enter a payment method. See if it will let you pay for the item that way.

·4 months ago@nikki_dubs, in that case, I think that @albertabrightalberta probably has the right answer.
