·2 years agoMost buyers if they do get banned from bidding, they just open up a new account.

·2 years agoIf the seller files a non paying case, the buyer gets a non payment strike. Most sellers have their accounts set to block bidders with two or more of them. Two is the minimum setting. Those strikes take one year to age off. So it's far less severe than jury duty or being held in a Turkish prison.

·2 years agoWhen a buyer doesn't pay ebay punishes the paying buyers too. That's how we got auto-pay.
eBay gives buyers 4 days to pay. But when you send buyers an invoice the payment due date is extended by 4 days. Essentially you give your buyer more time to pay whenever an invoice is sent.
eBay already reminds buyers to pay so you sending invoices is redundant.
Sending messages to remind buyers is over kill too.
What sellers do is wait 96 hours for the buyer to pay, if no payment by the 97th hour you can cancel the transaction citing buyer didn’t pay.
The buyer will get an unpaid item strike against their account that lasts 12 months. 2 of those unpaid strikes in 12 months gets those buyer blocked from bidding and buying from sellers who have their buyer requirements set to block nonpaying buyers.

Know that the buyer won't suffer any consequences unless the seller cancels the sale, citing 'Buyer didn't pay'.

·2 years agoA Non payment strike & manny sellers will block a buyer from purchasing that has received 2 strikes.
Don't know ebay's reaction toward serial non payment offenders
While a seller who inappropriately fails to complete a transaction may receive a defect & apparently then is allowed to accumulate a number of those defects before ebay may elect to sanction.

·2 years agoThey receive an unpaid item strike. Two or more and they will not be able to bid on certain auctions. But that is it there is no way to force payment. Ebay has started making buyers declare what form of payment they use before bidding.. Automatic payments are not very popular with buyers. Other than that there is not anything else ebay can do.

OP2 years agoThanks! Now when you mention "automatic" payments are you referring to "BIN" listings? Ive asked only as in 22+ years selling, this is a first.

·2 years agoNo, autopay isn't related to BIN listings. It's a new eBay feature being rolled out that forces buyers to enter a payment method before making an offer or bidding on an auction. Then if their offer is accepted or they win the auction that payment method is automatically charged. There are significant problems for buyers with it, including having to be refunded for combined shipping and not having certain payment options, such as PayPal credit or gift cards available. Because of that the policy has seriously ticked off a great many long-term, never-fail-to-pay buyers.
You apparently weren't aware that as a seller you were automatically opted into this new program. You might want to read the numerous posts here on the issue. They also include instructions for opting out should you decide to.

If a buyer hasn’t paid within 4 days, on the 5th day you can go to your Seller Hub to cancel the transaction using the “Buyer hasn't paid†reason and this gives the buyer a strike and you can relist. In future to have eBay automatically cancel your transactions due to non-payment:

·2 years agoFor the edification of the OP, the buyer who does not pay only receives that unpaid item strike if/when the seller cancels, citing "buyer did not pay" as the reason. In other words, that action has to be initiated by the seller and it has to be initiated after 96 hours of nonpayment and within 30 days.
