Buyers PLEASE be sure you actually want what you're buying
BEFORE hitting the buy button and then doing an immediate cancel request as "ordered by mistake'.
I've had 2 in 2 days. Enough is enough.
And no you won't be getting your refund until your payment clears into my available funds.
I'm not being dinged for your mistake. You can wait.

·1 year agoWe have the wally-mart shoppers now. They return as much as they buy. Ever seen the bedlam at their return counters?

·1 year agoJust got a cancellation request," Purchased by Mistake" I excepted request and refunded, just part of business. I don't think they should get to leave feedback, if the cancellation was on their end.

You might want to list as fixed price / buy it now set to require payment right away. That solves a lot but not all of that.

OP2 years agoThat's the issue. They ARE FP /Buy now. So they pay then immediately hit the cancel request.

·1 year agoA lot of that, you can blame Ebay.
A soon as they buy, Ebay will show them items they could have bought and paid less.

OP1 year agoGetting some now after they request a total that "shipping is too high". Yep, I agree.
At least those they haven't paid for.

·2 years agoBe careful because buyers can leave feedback on cancelled and non-payment sales.

·2 years agoCell phone buying can be doing it.
No description unless you can find it clicking into it after scrolling and scrolling to find it on your cellphone.
I go to the gym to use the equipment and everyone is one their cellphones and it drives me nuts.
And YES, I will not refund until I receive their funds PLUS I have no funds pending the next day. LOL.
And I do not email these silly buyers but rather let these buyers sweat hoping for that payment return.
However, I have made a few purchases on my cellphone in a bar...usually auctions...while having too many drinks...but never to you yet.
I just hate when I wake up the next day and can't believe I bought that. Not from you yet. LOL.

·2 years agoI get those all the time and agree it's annoying (mainly for inventory management reasons and accounting), but I'd much rather have the buyer request to cancel before I ship than file a return after I ship.
I process cancellations/refunds as I see the requests, generally within 24 hours. I personally don't have any reason to make the buyer wait.
Every seller will have their own way of handling this situation.

OP2 years agoI've had 4 this month and I'm tired of it. It's hard enough just making sales these days without this bleep.
I get what you're saying, but in my 20 years as a seller I have found a good percentage of buyer either just look the listing picture or just read the listing.
I would just cancel and be done with it.
Edited ...

OP2 years agoIt hasn't happened yet. As soon as I see the payment go into my available funds I refund, although right now I;'m sorely tempted to just ship. But of course ebay makes that as difficult as possible as well.
For the buyer there's zero consequences, not even a nominal cancellation fee.

·2 years agoBecause after 2 days your buyers can ask eBay to step in. When that happens, they get their refund from your pending funds ......
@ebooksdiva
Is that a new policy for when a buyer requests a cancellation? They get the cancellation anyway and a refund? Does the "ask eBay to step in" actually appear after two days? Do they get the cancellation granted anyway after two days even if they haven't paid yet?
Is it different if the seller refuses to cancel?
Sorry, but what you posted is (shocking) news to me, and apparently I need to read up on this topic.

OP2 years agoI've never had it happen.
There's usually a day or so grace period after the payment clears into available funds. As long as you accept the cancel within that window it's fine.
I just don't see why the buyer should get an immediate refund out of my pocket before their funds are available to me to refund with.

Very good point. If eBay actually USED the funds FROM THE TRANSACTION instead of hitting you up (bank account or c.card) when you don't have "available" funds from another sale, it would be different.
I especially feel for newbies with 30 "payment holds" that have to refund for a return while the actual transaction money is still on hold.
In general, since there is no limit to the number of "cancellation requests" submitted by a buyer, I would expect the behavior to continue and escalate. Even if they don't pay, and request in the "golden hour" they will never get an unpaid item strike. That seems 'special' as well.

OP2 years agoIt just amazes me how many buyers are "ordering by mistake".

·2 years agoNo news to read up on @ittybitnot . I believe ebooksdiva mistook the OP's cancellation request as a return request. No harm, no foul.
@wastingtime101 That is exactly what happened!
I edited my reply...brain stuck on returns.
