Buyer beware! Chefman admits they won't honor warranties on their new products sold on eBay!
When we contacted Chefman, the manufacturer of Air Fryers and other products, for warranty on our air fryer we were told, "...our warranty would not cover new products purchased from 2nd hand resellers/auction sites like Ebay".
In twenty years of buying & selling on eBay I haven't encountered this with a brand new item purchase on eBay! EBay should not allow Chefman items to be sold if they have no intention of honoring any warranty! This is a Chinese made item and we will not purchase their items again.

·2 years agoI know it's already been said, but just adding as a data point. I'm another one who won't typically buy 'new' items on eBay, and certainly never new electronics or appliances. If I wouldn't buy it at Traders Village , I wouldn't buy it on eBay
For me at least, eBay is only for used items/parts/collectibles not typically sourced from other venues. It's very, very good for that.

As @tobaccocardyahoo wrote a few months ago, many manufacturers will not cover still boxed items unless they are sold by an authorized dealer. They may not honor their warranty if an item was sold off as an over stock or discontinued item, to 2nd level (gray market) retailers such as Ollie's and other discount stores, or eBay sellers. Some even place stickers on those items saying; If there is an issue, return the item to the store, not back to (Mfr. name) Some manufacturers may honor their warranty for overstock/discontinued items, but you need to look up that info online.
eBay's Money Back Guarantee (MBG) does cover items for up to 30 days after it has been delivered. They pretty much will allow a return for any reason within that time frame. Go to the more actions box in your purchase history click on it, select return item, then from the next list Item is defective. You do not have to prove anything, and ebay will force the seller to pay the return shipping cost, then refund you once tracking shows the item was received by the seller.
Beyond that, you can always buy an aftermarket All State warranty, but read their warranty terms carefully first.

Unfortunately, The appliance worked for the first 3 times and I noticed on 4th usage some issue, but it worked again until the 5th when I definitely am seeing weird black rubbery stuff shedding and I am 6 weeks out from purchase. Hoping my draft of the review I'd write and request to replace the item will feel like good business to the vendor so we can work it out. I will never buy from EBAY again for anything that has a motor, however. Face cream and conditioner, sure;)

I wouldn't buy anything through Ebay that I expect to last any time.
If I want a warranty, I always go through an authorized dealer.

I have to wonder if the black rubbery stuff, was a film placed over something inside of the oven. A few months ago I bought an Oster, Airfryer, Convection... oven from a store that sells overstock or discontinued items.
When reading the instructions, it said there may be a film over the glass viewing window on both the inside and outside of the door, that has to be removed. The film on the outside window was easy to see, but the one on the inside window I did not think was there, its fit was so perfect, but when I powered it up, I could see it starting to wrinkle, and was able to get it off before it started melting. Did you check the start up portion of your unit's instructions, to see if there was a mention of things to remove before using the oven?

·2 years agoThis just happened to me with Ninja. $213 multi-cooker is shedding non-organic material after 5 uses. EBAY should make this clear but their guarantee is misleading. They cover it if machine arrives damaged apparently. But it did arrive ok. Just a problem when I used it properly! I am furious.

·2 years agoBuyers need to do a little research when it comes to warranties. It's usually not hard to check online.
On an eBay item where a warranty was important to me I checked with the manufacturer and found the guarantee stayed with the actual item, and not the original buyer/owner. With the serial number I was even able to see how long I had left. This was a second hand item.
But it is fair to say with most "guaranteed" items on eBay they are not "guaranteed" at all.

·2 years agoMost companies won't. They consider the eBay sale a resale of an item. Only sales from factory dealers a "first sale".
Many companies also don't want their products sold in venues like this. They feel it cheapens the brand. They tend to think of flea-markets as one notch above Cajun rules dog fighting.

·2 years agoHidden in the fine print for many manufacturers warranties is a statement that they only cover flaws in items sold by authorized resellers.
There are brands where you cannot go online and register the warranty unless you can find the source on the receipt on a dropdown menu.
Retail arbitrage is viewed as undermining the authorized distribution channel and discouraged by manufacturers with that view.
It is impossible to be sure any items sold as NEW on Ebay has the manufacturer's warranty. Other sites like Amazon require sellers be manufacturer authorized for many items, but their checking is not always correct. One of the many reasons why Ebay has seen a drop in sales of mass market products.

·2 years agoThe standard advice you always read on this forum is that those warranties are not transferable even if you buy it from someone on ebay new. Basically don't expect any warranty (even if it's promised in the description) when you buy something on eBay. That makes sense to me even if maybe there have been a few companies that have been exceptions have transferred their warranties. Just don't assume it's the norm.

Most manufacturers don't honor third party sales because the item could be a counterfeit product.
eBay can't compel manufacturers to honor warranties and they can't enforce sellers to fix, repair ot replace anything after 30 days.
eBay does have a warranty policy you should read. If there's no full written text or a link to it explaining how to obtain, register and confirm the warranty with the manufacturer and how to get service after the sale then all the seller did was copy what was written on the box.

OP2 years agoI have found quite the opposite. Most reputable manufacturers we have done business with have always stood behind their products and honored warranties on new product purchases. Happy customer referral, reputation, return customer... It's called good business.

·2 years agoMost reputable manufacturers won't cover a warranty for items sold in a secondary market. Once the chain of custody goes beyond their authorized distributor in a purchase situation, they have no way of knowing or controlling what their product has been exposed to. In addition, most warranties are time sensitive from the original point of sale. I'd say you've been lucky.

·2 years agoCurious. New to EBAY and (never again). To your knowledge, was this made clear on EBAY? I thought EBAY guarantee covered it. Clearly, I've been swindled. Why would anyone want to buy from EBAY when the warranty isn't covered? Price difference was not much at all.
