Bunch of Scammers/Fraudsters lately from the US
I have been regularly buying stuff from eBay, but I must say, lately, when buying from the US (and using a freight forwarding service to Europe), I had the very unpleasant experience with 2 Sellers (plus potentially a 3rd one, although that one seemed more open to reach an agreement on future purchases) where basically they **** up big time, send either the wrong product or the wrong quantity, and since 3 months have elapsed (sea shipping takes a long time via JetCarrier !).
eBay doesn't care at all and the seller very conveniently just states:
>> Unfortunately, after 90 days, eBay no longer allows buyers or sellers to issue refunds in the Seller Hub. We are sorry; there are no options available at the moment.
Or from another seller:
>> sorry I cant see your order anymore since it has been way more than 90 days. there is not way for you to open a return case or me to check on the order , ebay only shows 90days back
This sounds just like an excuse ! If they really wanted to settle things right, there's nothing to prevent them from refunding via Paypal. But where's the fun in that, if there is no screwing of the customer, eh ?
These are the 2 sellers, the 3rd one I'll see if I can manage that future agreement on a subsequent purchase (depending on availability of products), although with the prices of Fuel right now, everything got less and less worth it:
- [Removed by Moderator] -> Ordered 10 x TYAN M8036-L16-1F, received 10 x M7106-R16-1F
- [Removed by Moderator] -> Ordered 2 x TABcare Security Locking Metal Case Dell Latitude 5285 5290 7200 Wall Mount BlK, received 1 x TABcare Security Locking Metal Case Dell Latitude 5285 5290 7200 Wall Mount BlK
It's basically worse than buying from China right now !

"It's basically worse than buying from China right now !"
You may not realize it but you have bought from china based sellers several times in the recent past. They give a U.S. location, but are registered in China.
The seller of the Tyan M8036 is registered there with a 98.4% rating not a good percejtage for a higher volume seller. The sellers you've received feedback from for Private listings are probably based there as well. They use Private Listing to hide the non positive feedback for the items they've sold.
You need to do a better job of vetting your sellers in the future. Never go by a feedback percentage alone, check their feedback profile page classic view.
If you are having your freight forwarder hold on to packages until you can get a bulk international shipping rate, You are probably not receiving the items until after the 30 day return period, from the date the forwarder received them has lapsed. That's not eBay's fault.

·5 months agoNot only does it take 90 days, but using a FF voids any eBay MBG altogether, yo u are at the mercy of the seller accepting returns...and that means you pay to get it back to the FF even if it's INAD case.
In today's market, I wouldn't buy from or ship anything into the US market. And if I had to buy from the US, I would only buy items shipped via eIS, I know it cost more, but there is a value to that whether buyers believe it or not
grann-4629
·5 months agoIsn't eIS just another freight forwarder? If so, any US seller using it for international shipping is off the hook for anything other than INAD's that might happen after the hub receives it, including the length of time it takes to reach the buyer.
I am in Canada and I would love to be able to purchase from my American friends ... their prices are really good for the stuff I buy, but the (legitimate, actual) shipping cost kills it especially for those sellers who use eIS.
ETA: The 'legitimate actual' shipping costs have been well xplained to me by another poster and they are high and getting higher. Being only 50 miles from the US border, I don't think the added cost of using eIS is needed.
ryry-jj
·5 months agoYes eIS is ebay's FF, it comes with protection. eBay is the exporter of record. Independent FF do not, unless buyers instruct the FF to open and inspect before forwarding. Once they forward, the buyer is now the importer of record solely responsible for the contents

OP5 months agoIronically I once ordered a motherboard and used eBay's International Shipping. Motherboard arrived with a cut corner and bent ports, since it was free to move (read: shake) inside the package. Seller assured that it was packed properly and claimed that most likely eIS that unpackaged and repackaged the item very poorly. Not sure whose fault it was, but yeah, I was promptly refunded by eBay once I shipped back the item.

·5 months agoEIS is a "trusted" freight forwarder who does not forward items which fail its inspection, and assumes responsibility for all claims of damage or misdescription.
Canadian buyers are the major source of my complaints about the cost of shipping via EIS. Whether that is solely due to the cost of shipment to the EIS hub as well as the cost of international shipping via EIS or not is debatable.
Before EiS, I happily lived without any international sales, and would do so again. I am not at all disturbed by the decision of some Canadian buyers to pass, but those Canadian buyers I get post positive FB about their orders. Admittedly, most of my Canadian sales are low weight and not my lowest priced items.
EIS is a tool in a seller's tool kit. It is not appropriate to every sale.
I always found shipping by Canada Post to be unpredictable and unreliable. I stopped using UPS because of their outrageous customs clearance fees, and on the whole classed shipping to Canada with shipping to Italy, to be avoided.
luckylinx9
OP5 months agoProblem is most sellers don't offer that shipping option and you need a lot of back/forth for them to enable it. And it doesn't always work either. Plus, as you rightly said, it costs an arm and a leg.
Especially when buying a lot of items, consolidating them into a single transatlantic shipment has huge savings.
kathiec
·5 months agoNo, using a freight forwarder doesn't void any eBay MBG altogether. Packages lose coverage once they're forwarded. But it there's not tracking showing delivery to the freight forwarder the transaction is indeed eligible for an item not received claim.

You lose your Money Back Guarantee when you use a freight forwarder. Once the item arrives at the FF company, the seller is off the hook for anything that happens after that.
Besides, I'm not sure why you expect sellers to refund you after 90-days. The MBG is for 30-days. You can ask for a refund up to 60-days but sellers have no obligation to refund you. Once it is beyond 60-days, I don't think the system will let you. If you are asking/demanding refunds after that and asking sellers to refund you through around means, you are violating eBay policy. Sorry, pal, you are in the wrong. I hope sellers are reporting your account so you are banned from the platform.
luckylinx9
OP5 months agoI think you are confusing a package being lost/stolen after it has been delivered to the Freight Forwarder (which I would agree is NOT the seller's responsibility) with an act of fraud / scam by delivering the wrong article and/or the wrong quantity (which IS the seller's responsibility).
You hoping that me the victim being banned from the platform is just hilarious. You and the platform are defending fraudsters and scammers. Not that surprising given who is in charge in the government I must say though ...

There are posters who post here regularly and offer free help and general information to others.
There are posters who fly in, take a shot, then run and hide.
You seem fairly new to posting, so I wonder if you know how to link to previous posts. If you can , please:
1. Point me to 3 posters in the first group who have defended fraudsters and scammers, or,
2. Point me to 1 poster in the first group who has defended fraudsters and scammers if finding 3 is too difficult, or,
3. Run and hide with your friends in the second group.
Thank you. I am immune to insults ... I would just like to read the posts in the link(s) you provide.
btw ... political references are not allowed on this forum.

·5 months agoSince there’s no way to verify whether the seller shipped the wrong item or the wrong quantity or if the person receiving the packages at the FF decided to help themselves to a few free items, the money back guarantee doesn’t cover items that have been reshipped. A chain of custody kind of thing.
jonathanbrightlight
·5 months agoNo one is confused by that. There is no way to prove whether the seller shipped the wrong thing or the freight forwarder swapped it or changed something, and thus you have no protection at that point from the eBay Money Back Guarantee, because that freight forwarder is someone you hired separately, outside of eBay.

·5 months agoHow do you know it isn't the freight forwarder, switching the items or taking a few pieces here and there?
luckylinx9
OP5 months agoIt's quite a special item that was switched around, not some everyday's thing. That would require the freight forwarder to both have another special item and be able to sell the one that they took from me. Seems unlikely since I don't seem to be able to order the item from anywhere else.

·4 months agoPeople who swipe packages, whether while they’re in the mail stream, off porches, out of trucks stuck in traffic or in ff depots rarely know what the packages contain, they just grab whatever, discard what can’t be sold. It’s a numbers game.

Didn't know that ... thanks! Does this apply to US sellers who use eBay's FF service (eIS)? If so, who makes the buyer whole if there is a MBG type problem with the item?

180 Days money back guarantee my ***. They decline in record time if you register a case with them 30 days after the item was delivered.

·5 months agoBuyers are fully covered under eBays Money Back Guarantee if they purchase from a US seller using EIS.
Once the item reaches the hub, eBay takes full reponsibility from thereon

The pertinent information for this situation in the MBG can be found in the 'The item was sent to another address after original delivery' section, where it states:
Covered:
