Bruhh I just want to purchase stuff with my Christmas gift card
I was given a $300 gift card from my company this Christmas. I spent hours organizing and prioritizing my cart with the baseball cards I was planning on buying. Now I find out ebay puts all kinds of road blocks to make sure you can't use a VISA gift card to purchase stuff on their website. I've tried transferring via cashapp, venmo, zelle, etc. and they're all dead ends. I've tried purchasing ebay gift cards but they won't accept a gift card as a form of payment. For one reason or another, each service tries their hardest to deny payment by gift cards. How do I get around this? It may as well be an amazon card as it is virtually useless and not accepted anywhere else.

You could have registered the card on a paypal account and used it that way.

OP2 years agoIt doesn't work. I tried paypal and googlepay since they are two payment processors that ebay suggests, when prompted to pay. When trying to link the card on their websites, they recognize the card as a gift card and refuse to let you link it. Venmo, Cashapp, and zelle operate the same way. Some ask for zip codes, others for names & addresses, one for a pin number which at some level flag the system. Its' absurd the lengths these companies go to make sure there is no way to subvert their payment processor firewalls, or whatever it's called. I'm sure it's fraud related, but I ended up trading Mom a transfer from Venmo for a gift card on Amazon, which is the only place I've seen that the card actually processes.

·2 years agoIs it a regular Visa gift card or a Vanilla Visa gift card? The Vanilla cards have been blocked from many large venues (eBay, Amazon, PayPal, and many other places). You're best using those at a local store.
If it's a regular Visa gift card, you would enter it as a regular credit card. If that doesn't work, you can try adding the card to your PayPal account (if you have one) then use PayPal checkout on eBay and select the Visa card when you go through PayPal checkout.

OP2 years agoIt was a regular VISA gift card. There are obviously restrictions put on it. Apparently its' difficult to use at gas stations, many online stores, it doesn't cash out at atm, it cant be transferred to bank account via cashapp, paypal, venmo, zelle, etc. I tried everything. Tried calling in and assigning a zip code to the card to see if it would make a difference. It didn't.
I definitely tried registering as a debit and credit card on my ebay account. It recognized it as a gift card and denied my payment. Tried linking it to payment processers (Paypal & Googlepay) as a debit/credit card. They recognized it as a gift card and denied me ability to link the card.

·2 years agoDid you add the gift card on the payment screen as a credit card? Add a card?
Then select it as the payment method on checkout so it uses the gift card and not your existing payment source.

·2 years agoHere is a possible solution, just don't sign in. Clear all of the cache and all of the cookies on your computer and buy each individual item one at a time as a guest (NOT SIGNED IN). This should work.
