Bring Back "Feedback Left" in "Purchases" page
This is my philosophy. When I sell an item and the buyer pays, I always leave positive feedback right away. Conversely, as a buyer, I don't leave positive feedback for the seller until after he/she leaves positive FB for me. I don't understand sellers who will leave feedback for a buyer only AFTER the buyer leaves feedback. What's the point? The days of retaliatory feedback are long gone as sellers can only leave positives. If a buyer is going to leave negative FB, they can do so whether the seller has left FB for them or not.
I think eBay should bring back the icon that shows in your purchases when a seller has left you feedback so that you can easily reciprocate.

·1 year agoI have to agree.
Overall, feedback is more useful than harmful. For those that don't care or don't use it, there are still those that may rely on it and actually do use it.
Its already there, may as well continue to use it. But there isn't any need to hide it or make it obscure and obtuse to use. Unless eBay actually intends to phase it out eventually. Which I disagree with on the whole.
I would rather see it made better, simpler, easier to use and understand than just be removed.
No matter what site, method, or feature, you are going to have people that use it, don't use it, abuse it, hate it or love it. Just the nature of doing online business.

·1 year agoDo what is right for you. If you feel you want to spend the time to leave feedback, leave it and don't have the 'I'll do it if you do' mentality.
After all, many sellers don't know how to use feedback if they are just a 'part timer' or 'cleaning out the closet' type seller.

Looking at seller feedback is still the best way to tell the difference between experienced and inexperienced seller accounts and thus avoid many common scams.
I would rather avoid buying from a scam account than have to rely on eBay's buyer protection to deal with false tracking, for instance.
The fact that some other users may not know how to use feedback effectively does not mean that I cannot use it effectively.

Why is that?
I would imagine that if you received an item from an eBay seller and it was precisely what you ordered and arrived quickly, you'd be happy to leave positive feedback.
In absolute terms, what difference does it make what the seller has to say about you, the buyer -- given that you know that a seller can only leave you positive feedback about you?
Why the need to keep score, as it were?

OP1 year agoBecause there is NO reason for a seller to hold feedback hostage (as it were). The buyer wins an auction, the buyer pays in a timely manner...the buyer has then fulfilled his obligation and the seller should leave positive feedback. When I sell, I leave positive FB immediately when the buyer pays. I expect the same when I buy. It's the principle.

Ah, yes… principle. I remember being hung up on principle when I was younger.
I decided to give it up when I turned 50.
Nowadays I just do the right thing, no matter what anyone else does or doesn’t do.
And the results have been extremely satisfactory in so many ways.
I wish someone had told me about the merits of abandoning “principle“ when I was in my 20s.

OP1 year agoWe obviously disagree. Tell me something. Give me one good reason why a seller should hold off on leaving feedback unless and until the buyer leaves it?

·1 year agoYou tell me something; What difference does it make if a buyer has 900 FB or 901? 3000?

"This is my philosophy. When I sell an item and the buyer pays, I always leave positive feedback right away. Conversely, as a buyer, I don't leave positive feedback for the seller until after he/she leaves positive FB for me".
You are entitled to have your own philosophy about when you leave feedback, and so are sellers. There is no right or wrong way to take an action that is Voluntary.
"I don't understand sellers who will leave feedback for a buyer only AFTER the buyer leaves feedback... If a buyer is going to leave negative FB, they can do so whether the seller has left FB for them or not.
You will understand why a seller will wait to leave feedback, if you ever run into a buyer who tries to scam you, after you have left them a positive one.
"The days of retaliatory feedback are long gone as sellers can only leave positives".
That is not necessarilly true. While a seller cannot leave negative feedback or a negative comment initially. They can leave a follow up comment that is a negative reply, to the buyers feedback comment and/or the one they left a buyer, and ebay will not remove them.
Because buyers can only receive positive feedback, after a certain point they become meaningless. Because of that, their reputation is based on the feedback they have left for sellers.

·1 year agoAs a seller, Feedback is somewhat important to me. It lets me know the buyer
is happy with their purchase and my performance in serving them.
As a buyer; If a seller leaves me FB, I may or may not notice it. I am buying an ITEM from
them not a feedback comment. A simple "thank you for your purchase" like a clerk
would thank a buyer in a brick & mortar is more than enough but not necessary.
I don't deserve glowing praise simply for paying for my purchase. I'm way more
concerned that I get my item, as described, in a timely fashion.
Do I leave FB for my buyers? Yes because many expect it. I often leave something like: "Thank you for your purchase, you have excellent taste."
I just think a buyer's FB is meaningless to me, it only tells me they bought something.
What's more important is the FB that buyer has left for other sellers.
I think I could become wealthy if I posted a listing for "Guaranteed instant glowing feedback for you $1.00 each"
No, I would never do that, it's a policy violation so don't get any ideas. LOL

·1 year agoHi, As a seller I like to watch the tracking of our customer orders & try to leave a nice feedback on the day that their purchases arrive. I just think that this leaves a good impression & may net a return buyer. As a buyer - I usually wait until I have my item in hand before leaving any feedback. (I have ALWAYS been quite satified with my purchases & have never felt the need to leave a negative or a neutral rating) I just dont' think that anything that EBay does would change this strategy.

·1 year agoSome sellers want to know that things went OK with the buyer before they leave the "meaningless, can only be positive" feedback for a buyer but I do understand that some buyers have a different "philosophy" about feedback so I leave it after I ship.
Not sure why the "gold sticker" is so important to some. 199 feedback vs 200 feedback ??? 1999 feedback vs 2000 feedback???
Buyer getting feedback is just a good tool when sellers violate policy by leaving bad comments that other sellers may get to read.
A buyer pays. Buyer gets item. That is nothing that deserves accolades for being a great person. Feedback being given to buyers (as currently only positive allowed) is a relic of the past.

·1 year agoAs you're aware, both sellers and buyers can handle feedback anyway they chose, but sellers cannot leave negatives for buyers.
You chose to leave FB for sellers only after they have left it for you. You leave FB for buyers right away.
Others may choose to do it differently.
And what icon needs to be brought back? When I look at my FB profile (or yours), I see exactly when a seller has left me feedback. Isn't that information available to you as well?
gator08041971
·1 year ago@soh.maryl
There used to be an indication in the listing of your purchases that showed whether you had feedback from the seller or not. But its been years since I've seen it.

·1 year agoStill don't understand the issue. My Purchase History shows me my purchases whether or not I have received FB for them. Yours doesnt?
gator08041971
·1 year ago@soh.maryl
No.
There is no way to know if feedback has been left for a purchase I have made without digging into details of the order. On the page that lists my purchases, there is no indication of feedback being left or not left. This is from a PC view, not an app view.
If I look at my seller side and my list of orders, I can see where feedback has been left or not by the buyer in that list. But not on my purchase history.
It has been like this for a long time, longer than I can remember.
Example of one that I know has left feedback that I purchased:
eburtonlab
·1 year agoPreviously there were four icons that appeared on the Purchase History page to let users know at a glance if an item had been paid for, either shipped or received, or had feedback left or feedback received.
eBay has since removed that feature, and in order to get the same information it is necessary to look at different pages.

·1 year ago@eburtonlab
Yes! That's what was taken away a while back!
I actually used to refer to those when reviewing my purchases. Now, I have no easy way to find that info without taking other steps.
eBay needs to stop adding layers to things and making it more complicated and requiring more interaction.

It was incredibly convenient - at a glance you could see immediately if an item was paid for, had been shipped, and who had left feedback for whom. I guess removing it was yet another ebay 'improvement" .
