Blocking sellers
I know there is no quick "block seller" button. I know there is a workaround. I want to *WHY* I can't just block a seller. As a collector of certain items expected to be in near to or perfect condition, if a seller ships these items in a fashion that would, could, or does damage them, I absolutely am not going to shop them again. Same with price gougers, ultra low rated sellers, and dishonest sellers. It seems like a great way to cut down on the amount of returns and complaints as we wouldn't even see their listings.
So why can't we just have a block seller button or even just a "don't see items from this seller" button?

Seller does not have that power, nor can seller disengage without penalty. If a buyer wishes not to do business with a particular seller, he need only refrain from placing an order with that seller. Meanwhile a seller who wishes not to do business with a particular buyer would be SOL without the ability to block that user from being able to buy from him.
Moreover sellers are significantly more likely to change. Sellers have a great deal of incentive to improve. They may already or may in future offer items in other categories which a formerly disinterested buyer could be seeking. They may change their pricing strategy, or their shipping strategy, or any number of other variables. Buyers aren't under such a great deal of pressure to improve or evolve their eBay habits (nor should they be).
If you're determined enough, you *can* have a block seller button of sorts. Browser extensions like Stylus come to mind.

·8 months agoEbay does not care. You know what they care about!?? Money. Not buyers or sellers. I have had sellers break the most basic of eBays "rules". I complain and eBay just lets the seller do whatever they want. Remember, they get more money from sellers. Buyers can go to h*** because there will always be another buyer to rip off. It's the same with Amazon, and every other big retailer.

< they [eBay] get more money from sellers >
But it's the buyers who bring the money to the table. This is called a symbiotic relationship, each needs the other, each benefits from the relationship. eBay acts as a facilitator, providing a place where they can get together.
I have made 1,569 purchases on eBay. I have lost my money to a successful rip off exactly one time, and I could've prevented it that one time but I was stupid. Details on request, LOL. Luckily, it was a relatively small amount.

·8 months agoJust curious: Am intrigued by your statement that "sellers break the most basic of eBays "rules". Can you give an example of that?

You can do that by creating a Saved Search for any item … and then Exclude (under Sellers) ALL the sellers you want to block.
Use that template each time you search for an item … changing only the keywords for the item … and you will avoid seeing any items listed by sellers who don’t meet your standards for whatever reason.
This shouldn’t take any more clicks to use than some ‘Block Seller button’ that eBay would have to create from scratch.

·8 months agoHow would you know how the seller ships items? Most feedback would not be a good indicator because those metrics are not shown. Feedback can be for some sellers and instances be removed.

·8 months agoI will give you a very simple answer because Ebay has made the decision not to have that function. There are a lot of things I wished Ebay would add or get rid of but it hasn't been done. Which is why it is important to read the listing and ask questions before you make a purchase.

·8 months agoJust because there isn't a mechanism to do this.
If they did this, then maybe they would also have to add
'block from certain states'
'block from people using Discover Card'
'block people with XX feedback' etc etc.
So, the site has decided to block buyers as that is much more important. Sellers can easily be avoided, since the list would be quite small, a 'post it' should handle it.
