·4 months agoNot absolutely positive about this, and someone will come along and correct me if wrong, but if/when a seller blocks a buyer, I don't think he can be unblocked except by the seller himself.
And a buyer can be blocked for any reason or for no reason at all.

You are correct. I addressed this in an earlier post. Ebay does not over-ride a seller's block. Sellers have the right to block a buyer for any reason they my choose to, Ebay does not get in the middle of that.

·4 months agosellers are allow to block you. I know several blocked me cause I had ask ?s. I have been blocked becase I told one person how they have the nerve to send me somenting broken when I had asked what condition and he it is in perfect conditon then he blocked me. Another person have no clue guess I asked to many ? The seller is allowed to block but not the buyer.

·4 months agoRegarding that seller who sent you the broken ornament, certainly hope you opened an item not as described case in order to be refunded.

Why would a buyer want to block a seller?

·4 months agoWell it would be good if you could block sellers you've had a nightmare with because in the future for me personally I'm unlikely to remember the name of said seller. I think it'd be good to have a list like the blocked bidder list and if you tried to buy from a seller on the list you got a warning they were on your blocked seller list.

·4 months agoIt is a question that many buyers have asked over the years. It likely is because it would be an easier way for them to track which sellers they have had issues with if they are a frequent buyer.

·4 months agoThere are times when a buyer's experience with a particular seller has been so horrific that he wants to avoid ever dealing with that seller again. About the only way he has to make that happen is a post-it note on his computer or just a note somewhere. He has no way to avoid seeing that seller's listings. If, however, a seller has a bad experience with a buyer and wants no repeat episodes, he can just block that buyer, a few keystrokes.

·4 months agoMight there be any any non-payment strikes against you? That is - in the past you have won an auction but did not pay?

·4 months ago@windyreyes ,
From what I can tell from your profile it seems that you have a large increase in the number of items you've bid on or bought in the last month or so. That could trigger a limit on your bidding/buying by ebay. Open the link below.
https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/buying-limits-restrictions/buying-limits-restrictions?id=4012
There could also be an automatic block put in place by the sellers.
The above sample is set to 10 but the number can be increased up to 100 items. It may have been done long ago by the seller and forgotten. I doubt many sellers when they started out, envisioned a need to increase the limit on the number of items purchased by a single buyer.

·4 months agoAnother really stupid eBay thing ... I guess I will have to tell the seller to only put 9 eggs in the carton, then wait a few months to buy the other 3. I also better clean out that cart I was building with a popular seller of DVD's .. I had 11 DVD's in the cart.
Oh well, sorry sellers 😕
kibble-net
·4 months agoWhat? Who is selling eggs on ebay?
I'm sure that seller is going to be losing a lot of sleep because they did not sell you 10 DVDs for a buck each!
grann-4629
·4 months agoI don't buy $1 DVD's, and about the eggs ... read between the lines and you might get it.

·4 months agoIf you’re reading between the lines and coming to a different conclusion than others, that usually means you’re reading into a situation something that isn’t true.

·4 months agoWhat? Who is selling eggs on ebay?
Actually,, there are people that sell eggs for hatching on eBay.
grann-4629
·4 months agoOkay 😒
* there is a limit of 10 items I can buy from a seller as shown in the example
* I want to buy 1 dozen eggs (ie: 12) from that seller
* as usual, eBay AI will see this as 12 different transactions with that seller
* therefore, I can only buy 9 eggs from that seller or I will be banned from buying anything else from that seller
* I will come back later and buy the other 3 eggs from that seller after the ban has cooled down
This is 100% totally not true. You need to learn how to look a little differently at some of the things I say 😎😎😎

·4 months agoMaybe you are tagging the wrong person? I didn't anything about how many eggs one could buy or put in a hypothetical basket, just that you can buy eggs on eBay. 🙂

·4 months agoI like it – we need more people that look at things differently. That’s how you find solutions to difficult problems.

·4 months agoThat’s a setting that sellers can turn on, not one eBay imposes on every listing/seller.
It exists so that a) buyers, especially new ones (you can have this setting apply only to buyers who have less than x feedbacks) cannot deplete a seller’s listings with nefarious intentions, or for sellers who want to, for example, offer items at low prices but don’t one just one buyer to buy up their inventory and instead have multiple buyers to be able to access those low priced items.
It’s a simple computer script, has been in existence for a long time, way before eBay’s massive use of AI to handle day to day operations and does have valid uses.

·4 months agoEBay's setting (which, as pointed out, is something sellers can opt into, not something carved in stone) applies to transactions. So if a seller has a listing for a dozen eggs, that's one transaction, not 12. It's not a matter of "looking differently" at the things you say, it's a matter of the things you say being completely divorced from the reality of how eBay functions.
grann-4629
·4 months ago@kathiec There is a thread here somewhere where someone had to issue a credit for something like 43 items all shipped in the same order and eBay's AI messed up and thought it was 43 different INR's and canned the buyer.
Obviously another member talking through their hat ... just like me 🤓

·4 months agoI don't know who is selling eggs on eBay but I got a dozen today for 79¢ down from over $4 a while ago.

You say you filed an appeal -- an appeal of what? Do you have two or more unpaid item strikes?
musicforyoureyes
·4 months agoAre you blocked or is the system asking for more payment options from you? My payments go through every time except when I try to bid. It asks me for another payment option and I pass because the one I use is the only one I want to use. I buy the ones that are Buy It Now. Otherwise it's a mystery unless there's info you're not telling yet. I agree with the other members. Good luck!

·4 months agoYour problem is probably that your preferred payment method does not accept authorization holds.

·4 months agoNo one here has access to your account information; therefore, we have no idea why you've been blocked.
Maybe you could offer more information and we might have a clue.
Sellers can block buyers for any reason or for no reason at all.
1786davycrockett
·4 months ago@windyreyes
Because sellers can block buyers from bidding and buying -- it's a seller prerogative that eBay can't overrule.
windyreyes
OP4 months agoIt’s happening on every possible auction even ones I’ve never bid on
soh.maryl
·4 months agoHow can you be blocked from bidding before you've actually bid?
You really could be clearer about what's happening to you in terms of bidding.
mam98031
·4 months agoBlocks on a buyer like you described are set one of two ways. By Ebay due to some sanction levied on your account or by a seller.
The blocks are NOT placed per "auction", it is either per seller , if the seller set it or if it was Ebay that placed the sanction on your account there could be a variety of guidelines for it. If Ebay placed the sanction on your account, you got an email regarding the issue and explaining what was happening. You may have overlooked it or check your trash.
With that said, it is more likely that the block was set by the seller. We have a few ways we can do that. When a seller sets up their buyer requirements in their profile, they have a few things they can set. One of them is if you have had too many unpaid strikes. The strictest setting, and always the one I recommend for sellers is 2 in the past 12 months. For sellers that have this setting, you will automatically be blocked whenever you try to bid or Purchase and item from their account.
One thing have have noticed that you haven't shared on the thread was exactly what the warning you get on screen states. How that is worded EXACTLY can give us very good clues as to what the ultimate reason for your issue is.
FYI, if a seller has set your account to be blocked on their listings, whether auctions or BINs, you can't appeal that with Ebay. I mean you could of course try, but it won't work. Ebay will not force a seller to sell to you, that is completely up to the seller.
