Bid explanation please
Explanation please: there were 0 bids for this item. As soon as I place my first bid for 19.50 it says I was outbid by another bidder 20 minutes before mine (but I was the first bidder). How was a autobid generated without a first bid shown?
these bids were done a couple hours before bid closing. No further bids.

·2 years agoThe "0 bids" was old information. Some pages update quicker than others. The Bid History Page of the full website is the most up to date and accurate source available to the public of the status of bids on an auction. The mobile app is the least reliable and useful.
Question: Why did you bid $19.50? If it was because that was the minimum bid as displayed when you went to bid then the prior bid was in place and figured into that minimum bid ("current bid" of $19.00 plus 1 bid increment of $.50 at that level, as opposed to minimum bid of $19.00 ("starting price") if there were no existing bids.

OP2 years agoThat makes sense. Thank you.

·2 years agoWhen there is only one bid on an auction, it will show up as the opening bid price (in this case, $19.00), until somebody bids against them.

For future reference if you have an issue about bids and when they are placed, it is best to post the ebay item number for the auction, rather than posting a portion of the bid history. Then we can look at the full bid history which is easier to follow.
From what you posted it looks like h***3 bid 22 minutes before you did, placing an automatic bid, but since the price was still the same as the starting price it would not show up until your bid raised the price over the starting price. One way to tell if there is an earlier bid is, when you go to place a bid, it tells you that the minimum bid has to be more than the starting bid price, in this case .50cents more or $19.50 Otherwise if no bids had yet been placed you could have bid $19.00.
If you go back to the bid history and check the See automatic bids button the actual times the bids were placed will be displayed.
Then because h**3's automatic bid was higher than your bid, your were immediately out bid, andthe price was raised to $20 one increment more than your first bid, which happened to be h**3's highest price. When you bid for the last time $20.50 and no one else bid you became the winner.
The link below explains how automatic bidding works, and the ways to bid on auctions. Click on the links inside the article to find out more about bidding on ebay auctions.
