Auto-Pay, Good or Bad?
I have made my thoughts clear on this subject Auto-Pay in past threads. I think it's bad overall, but I can see where it would be good for some sellers. What do you think of Auto-Pay?
You provide a payment method and enter into Auto-Pay.. When does eBay provide the pop-up for Auto-pay for an auction? Only when the bid amount is over $50? I have bid on smaller amounts and the pop-up about Auto-Pay does not show up. No mention in the item listing that "Auto-pay" or "Immediate Payment is Required" Why won't eBay allow this transparency? Sellers voted against it?
Is Auto-Pay responsible for low sales? If the bidder does not know the auction is auto-pay and their one credit card payment method for auctions they won get hit with charges unexpectedly (because the buyer thought they can use a different credit card instead). Will a buyer decide it's too risky to bid, since they don't know which auctions are Auto-pay and which ones are not?

·1 year agoI no longer submit offers or bid on auctions that require pre-pay. I resent the "guilty until proven innocent" vibe it gives off. I resent the fact that eBay has made no equally one-size-fits-all requirement to address the issue of non-performing sellers.

·1 year agoI have bought nothing but BIN or seller initiated offers since the policy was enacted. I refuse to provide prior payment documents, so I just shop elsewhere.

OP1 year agoI hate it because if I bid on several items I have to provide which credit card or payment method I have to use and then if I change my mind I have to go to the top of the listing and change the credit card or payment method for each bid before auto-pay kicks in. Why not let us decide which credit card to use after the auction ends and then auto-pay? I guess they have to pre-authorize the transaction, otherwise there will be auction deadbeats. No other way to set it up.

·1 year agoIt seems to work both ways. With make an offer, the instant cash in hand seems to spur sellers to accept offers more that they would if it was not used and they have to wait for the buyer to pay.
You do have to watch with auctions as some have it and your all paid up right away but others you have to keep a watch so you don't forget to pay.
So, it's sort of a wash with me.
