Auctions - Did anyone notice this?
While searching for something, I came across this.
Although I don't generally buy or sell with auctions and trading cards aren't my thing, this scares me!

One of my auctions, closing last night, appeared to show this extension, the winner did not change.
It might be costing some snipers an extra bid, that's ok by me.
Given the dearth of auction bidders, when we can get two bidders they should be allowed as much time as necessary to compete.

You are listing items in the broad trading card category so the extension is in place for your auctions. My items are listed in several other collectible categories and I get many snipe bids for them, and I count on them.

I too, count on snipe bids, but they are often higher than required. This is a way of separating those snipers from more of what they are willing to pay.
It will take a lot more competition to drive the snipers away, and this is more money for me, and for Ebay. And I expect there will be no change in sniper behavior.
I used to snipe. Now I just leave the max I am willing to pay and let Ebay automatically bid. I win some, I lose some, just as I did when I sniped.

·6 months agoI figured this would happen eventually. This is all about money. Expect buyers to pay more. Another change I see could happen is when an auction starts with "best offer" they given buyers an hour or 2 so that the seller can review offers before bids on that auction can be official.

Be glad there hasn't been an extension of the policy into other categories, so far. If they do that it could spell the end of ebay auctions for many sellers. It would be the final straw for me, as a seller who has listed 99+% of their items as auctions for 23 years.

·6 months agoMost of the chatter in July was on other social sites. I think there were only a few posts on this forum? Easily missed when you're not in that category.

·6 months agoActually, it seems more like a 'live' auction 'going once, going twice' etc... allowing anyone watching to see a bid and be able to react without a slam down time clock (other than the 2 minutes, just like the 'going once' deal, creating more 'emotion')
Auction listings then are really more of an 'advertisement' that 'this thing is up for auction and will end next Weds at 1pm'.
Might be the way to go for all items in the future (that are on auctions)
ps. I don't do auctions (buy or sell) or do anything with trading cards either
