Auction won….seller cancelled
Hi everyone. I was the only bidder on an auction ($.99). The seller obviously wasn’t happy with the outcome and cancelled my bid. I’m not terribly upset about it (as I’m not out any money) just thought is was a real d—- thing to do. I’ve personally had auctions where I didn’t get near what I wanted, but always honored the winner. I thought about contacting the seller (the profile says joined February 2026), to let them know they probably shouldn’t get in the habit of continuing that practice. Wondering how many of you have had this happen and what you did (if any) about it. I’m assuming this isn’t against eBay policy?? Thanks everyone.

·5 months agoNo need to contact the seller, they probably know it is against policy because when they were selecting the reason to cancel the order, there isn't a reason that says "Didn't get enough money".
What reason did they choose? If they chose Out of Stock or Damaged, they're already going to have a defect on their record, but if they chose another reason you could report them for that.

·5 months agoNo, this isn't normal behavior. It's discouraged by ebay and by the community as well.
You do have a few avenues of recourse:
- Leave negative feedback stating that the seller cancelled without your permission.
- Report the seller to ebay if they picked a false reason for cancelling to avoid receiving a defect (i.e. if they said that you requested it, when you in fact did not)
- Do a better job vetting your sellers by looking at their feedback before you buy or bid
