Auction ended for me but others still outbid me.
Hi,
Auction ended for me but others still outbid me. I had bid on the item. No other bids. It said ended and only my two bids. The first bid and my maximum bid were the only two bids. Other people were able to outbid me and I lost. I had bid on the same sellers other item 5 minutes before and won that auction. CAn anyone explain why this has happened. Ebay basically just fobbed me off when I contacted them, said it was a RARE GLITCH and the two agents I spoke to just ended the chat for no reason. I took a screenshot but cant seem to upload it.
Thanks
HANKS.

·2 years agoThese machines are not perfect, and seconds matter in auctions. Auctions do have to end, so seconds to the very last one matters. Seriously, I was trying to help you. Get an atomic clock app, find out the delay on your device, and bid at the very last second. Practice with some low-value items until you get the hang of it. Sniping something at the last second can be a lot of fun if you know how to do it....don't give up, join them instead....😀

·2 years agoI keep an atomic clock in one window, and the auction I want in the other....Shrink them down so I can see both counting down. ðŸ˜

·2 years agoAnd use an atomic clock, not an eBay, or other server clock, not your pc clock, because every second does matter.

·2 years agoYour screenshot looks like it was from before the auction ended, and you were the high bidder up until the last minute/second, that's why it looks like you were the only bidder.
Go get a fresh screenshot of it now and you should see the snipers in those last few seconds before it ended.

·2 years agoThere where 3 bidders eight bids total you were outbid by 2 bidders at the last seconds of the auction.
CS reps you spoke with were clueless. You were outbid by a sniper.

OP2 years agoExplain how the winning bidder bid at 2:24:04 when the previous highest bidder bid at 2:24:30. How did the winning bidder bid in the past.

·2 years agoBids are shown in order by amount, not by the time they were placed.
mas4317
OP2 years agoThat is what an auction is .... the highest bidder.....not the time you bid.....that is going backwards in an auction...an auction is about the highest bid not when you have bid. So explain how the highest bidder bid 26 second BEFORE the second highest bid? How can that be.

·2 years agoI am trying to explain it to you...
They are maximum bids entered....the most the bidder (with (3) feedback was willing to pay was 80.00
Bidder (3) made that bid when it was ready to close...
But bidder (25) already had a maximum bid entered above the maximum that (3) bid...bidder (25) probably had a higher amount they were willing to pay, but 82 was high enough (the hidden amount could have been 90 or more....) but it only took 82 to win it
i believe it is called proxy bidding
Proxy bidding occurs when bidders have the option to set a maximum price that they would be willing to pay for an item and then allow the computer system to bid for them by the bid increment until someone places a higher bid than their maximum.
mas4317
OP2 years agoRight, I think I understand it. The maximum bid time is actually the initial bid time so it looks like it was placed in the past.
mas4317
OP2 years agoThanks for that but It still doesnt explain why it was showing only 2 bids and the auction is ended for me on my screenshot.

·2 years agoWe don't have to explain your screenshot. Maybe your computer's internal clock is off. Or frankly, your screenshot could have been doctored.

You showed us a screenshot of the auction before it actually ended … despite the fact it said ‘ended’ on your computer.
It is the Bid History on the eBay site that shows the complete picture.
Your confusion about how the winning bid could have been placed earlier than the 2nd highest bid shows that you don’t fully understand eBay’s patented bidding system. [That’s not unusual. Many people do not fully understand how it works if they haven’t read the description of it carefully.]

·2 years agoThe winning bidder did not manually enter a bid at 2:24:04
They (Bidder w/(25) feedback number) entered their final bid (maximum) back at 2:23:51 (9 seconds to go)
Bidder (3) bid 80, and the 2.00 increments initiated 3 line entries....(ran it up to 80 (#(3) Max Bid) ...that's when (25) max bid made 9 seconds earlier kicked in

I accused eBay of something fishy .. Now I have sent an apology to them .. !!

OP2 years agoI had bid on another item from the same seller 5 minutes before and won the item. So there is nothing wrong with my PC clock as it updates itself.

OP2 years agoEveryone making these sniper bid comments wont click the link to look at the screenshot. I know what it means. Click the link. There is nothing dodgy about it. It is a free image hosting site. Look at it and tell me how is it possible.

Multiple servers for eBay. Sometimes delays in displaying can show incorrectly.
Countdown clock errors.

·2 years agoThis goes beyond discrepancies between eBay's clock and the bidder's computer. The suspect link goes to an image which shows that the auction had with just 2 bids:
Whereas the link that I provided shows that the auction ended with 8 bids:
mas4317
OP2 years agoThanks for posting that as I couldn't upload an image. Does it look suspect or what? I am wrong in thinking there is something up?
nobody*s_perfect
·2 years agoI don't think there is "something up." I think this is a problem with communication delays between various hardware.
mas4317
OP2 years agoThen the auction/bidding system has a major flaw.

·2 years agoHere is a link to the listing bid history.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/bfl/viewbids/134896740317?item=134896740317&rt=nc&_trksid=p4429486.m145235.l2565
The listing shows 8 bids, most of which came in during the final minute of the auction. With my limited technical insight, I think this is the result of delays in eBay's different servers. @mas4317 if you go to the listing now, does it show all 8 bids?
mas4317
OP2 years agoDid you look at the times of those bids. Look closely at the times. So why does it show the auction ended for me with only two bids that are mine and I cant bid on the item anymore?
khetzel
·2 years agoAuction ended at 14:24:40.
The winning bidder entered his max bid which was at least £82 at 14:24:04.
There were two other nibblers who bid 60,62,70,72,76, and 80 in the last couple minutes and did not win. Final price is based on the £80 nibble bid placed at 14:24:30 with 10 seconds left.

OP2 years agoFair enough but what seems to be over looked is, why does it show on my screen (see previous images) as the auction ended , me as the high bidder and only 2 bids in the auction? This isnt my first auction. I have done many and you see the bids going up in real time.

·2 years agoGiving us a screen shot doesn't give us much information. We need to see bid history, time frames etc... item number please.
nobody*s_perfect
·2 years agoI looked it up on eBay.co.uk, based on the seller ID and title that showed in the image.

·2 years agosorry...you were not even in the ballgame when the bidding closed.....
nothing nefarious here:
your 70 bid got crushed in the final minute
bidder (25) put in their maximum (winning bid) 9 seconds before the close. Bidder (3) tried valiantly to beat them, but did not....
mas4317
OP2 years agoSo why does the auction show ended for me with only 2 bids? Look at the other screen shots. How can the winning bid be placed before the second highest bid?
albertabrightalberta
·2 years agoThe clock kept running after you placed your bid(s) but you didn't refresh your screen so it's not showing the bids that came in after your bid was placed.

·2 years agoWhen you are looking at bid history, you need to click on the hidden bids.
It was not a glitch eBay CS reps use that as a reason to get you off the phone.
mas4317
OP2 years agoIf you click the link you will see the screenshot saying the auction was ended and the only 2 bids are mine. One is my first bid and the second is my auto bid. No other bids. I am the highest bidder it says in the top left in green.

·2 years agoIt wasn't a glitch it was a bid sniper bidding their highest which was more than you bid ,at the very last seconds of the auction. I do that myself.

OP2 years agoHow has the auction ended and only showing my 2 bids.

·2 years agoAnd your posted picture is not the end of the auction screen. You need to refresh this screen below, so the banner turns pink saying it got away, or something like that. Then you will see the total bid history and not just 2 bids and the words "Ended". Seconds matter, as I said.

OP2 years agoEbay said themselves it was a "rare" glitch. I have the chat transcript.
