asking for age when buying sharp knife like pieces.
I have been asked to give my card details to verify my age, done that and the message says that i have to use a credit card, not my debit card to verify this. I have always used a debit card? ANY HELP OUT THERE

·8 months agoAs a UK seller I asked this question many years ago. I said as a seller ebay already has more than enough financial details to confirm my age. Just being a member for twenty five years should be enough. But ebay doesn’t do joined up writing.
Plenty of credit cards available but it seems that debit cards are preferred over here, myself included.

·8 months agoFor those readers who are puzzled by why this credit card vs debit card is a big issue, credit cards are not as readily available in Europe and a larger percentage of their population rely on their debit cards than is the case in the US.

Had to use a credit card and not a debit card.
Don't know what members do that don't have credit cards?

·8 months agoFrom what I understand, if they do not have a credit card, they do not buy knives or other age restricted items on eBay.

You're in the UK, and this is a US forum. I do know that they tend to frown on knife ownership these days. I have no idea what the purchase requirements are in England, but it certainly seems questionable that they'd want the info you're being asked for.

·8 months agoSince you are registered in the UK, the policies there do require age verification with a credit card for certain items, including knives. There is, to my understanding, no other option and no way to work around it.
Since the policies in the UK are different from the US and very few if any of the users here are UK-based, I'd suggest you log out here and into the UK forums: https://community.ebay.co.uk/
You'll likely find people there who are more familiar with what you're experiencing. Sorry, we get lots of visitors from the UK site that don't realize they're on the US forums!

·8 months agoWell, that certainly untangles the issue for the OP. Thank you.

·8 months agoBesides the fact that there's nothing on your credit card that would verify your age, and the fact that only those 18 or over can buy on eBay, why would you give ANYONE your credit card info?

·8 months agoWhy would you give someone your debit/credit card numbers? Your information stored with eBay and payment source used for transaction only…and credit card have no information about your age…🙈🙉

·8 months agoExactly WHO or what entity is asking for your age and exactly WHO is saying you have to use a credit card?
