Asking for advice on a terrible seller.
Hey there.
So I’m looking for some advice on this as a long time buyer on EBay.
I ordered a product from a seller (a puppet) as I collect them and found this puppet that was pretty cute.
the pictures were pretty poor and they didn’t show the whole puppet, but I kind of fell in love with it and had to have it.
I also noticed that the seller had a 92% positive feedback, but I tried to have an optimistic outlook on that and figured maybe some buyer’s tried to screw this guy or maybe it was a misunderstanding.
anyway, I bought the puppet and received what has to be one of the most poorly made puppets I’ve ever bought.
The product was NOT good at all and the seller didn’t even show some of the worst aspects of its. (Primarily the hands which are basically so poorly made they can’t even be used)
I contacted the seller and she refused to give a refund. Only offered half.
I requested a return through EBay, but he refused it and closed the case immediately.
So I contacted him a few more times (getting more irritated by the second)
Finally, I took it up with eBay.
They were ZERO help. Apparently because I filed the return under “Didn’t like it†I can’t get a “Money Back guarantee†from EBay.
i only filed it under that because it was the closest category I could find to product was poorly made and poorly described/shown.
so they basically said the only thing I could do was leave him a negative review.
So of course I did that! And I see about 2 hours later he repealed the review and it doesn’t even show up on his account anymore.
I’m basically wondering what I should do? Are there further steps I can take? I don’t want this seller to get away with this kind of stuff.
It’s also crazy to me that because of ONE mistake on my part, I can’t get a refund.
again, I’ve been a loyal EBay customer for years. Never caused any trouble before. I just want justice for this experience.
honestly this whole thing is making me rethink using Ebay if this is really how this ends.
Hoping someone has some suggestions.
Thanks!

Since you botched the eBay Return, you can go to PayPal or to your CC for 180 days. Note: with PayPal, you will have to pick up the return shipping cost, but will get the item price back. I don't know how it works with your CC... I've never had to do it. Good luck.

To be clear, PayPal has updated their buyer protection to change the time frame for opening SNAD to 30 days.
See policy updates at https://www.paypal.com/us/legalhub/upcoming-policies-full ... use browser "search" to find Not As Described quickly. The screen shot below is from the Purchase Protection Program.

That's great info, thanks! I had no idea Paypal had made that change.

Thanks for that! Since I posted, I just paid for something through PayPal... I need to know as a buyer, seller and poster! 😊

·2 years agoYou do have a potential means of appeal. You can open a quality of merchandise dispute with your payment method.
The seller will hate you. Some other sellers who post on this forum will hate you. But you could win it.

·2 years agoIf the photos were not good enough, either ask for some more or find a better seller. There is always the chance you will purchase an item your not happy with and mail order makes that more likely. You can also stick to sellers that take returns.
Asking for more photos can get you blocked by a seller. That can be a good thing as they may know there are issues with the item.

·2 years agoWhen shopping on eBay, you might want to keep in mind the fact that 92% is a terrible rating.
Did you not actually read the comments under that FB?
Have no idea how other buyers shop, but, unless the FB is at least normal body temp, 98.6%, I hit the back button.

You have to read the feedback before making the purchase. If you still want to chance it, message the seller some other questions and/or pictures. How quickly and responsive may help you get a better feel for the buyer.

"I ordered a product from a seller (a puppet) as I collect them and found this puppet that was pretty cute. the pictures were pretty poor and they didn’t show the whole puppet, but I kind of fell in love with it and had to have it".
Because the photos were not good ones or showed the whole puppet, you should have messaged the seller and asked if they would add or send you more photos, before buying the puppet. If they refused or didn't reply, you should not have bought the item.
" Apparently because I filed the return under “Didn’t like it†I can’t get a “Money Back guarantee†from EBay... i only filed it under that because it was the closest category I could find to product was poorly made and poorly described/shown".
If the seller had a No returns/refund policy, you lost the Money Back Guarantee (MBG) dispute because of the reason you chose, is a Buyer's Remorse reason for the return, and that is why the dispute was closed in the seller's favor. Had you selected "Didn't match photos or description" as the reason for the return, they would have been forced to either send a return shipping label or refund you, if they didn't want to pay the return shipping.
"so they basically said the only thing I could do was leave him a negative review.
So of course I did that! And I see about 2 hours later he repealed the review and it doesn’t even show up on his account anymore".
If you have a dispute closed in favor of a seller, any non-positive feedback you leave can be removed. There is nothing else you can do at this point, except learn from the experience and be more selective in the future, which includes checking the seller's feedback profile no matter what their percentage is.

·2 years agoI understand how you feel but there is nothing eBay could do to help you at that point, since you chose the did not like category they are not obligated to provide a refund.
I recommend next time anything similar happens you select the other category, and properly describe the matter. So sorry for your experience.
