Anyone having problems when sniping having their bids cleared from the bid box.
Interested in how many people are having this issue and wonder just how it is being done. If you try to snipe an auction and you have your bid ready for a last few second snipe and suddenly your bid just vanishes from the box, and your not left any time to retype a bid prior to the end of the auction.
The only conclusion I can come up with is a blocking tool software to block all bidders at the last few seconds prior to the end of an auction. I have had this happen a number of times so it is not a fluke and I just notified eBay of this issue. They claimed they would get back with me, we will see. Just interested in how many others have had this issue. I have been eBaying for over 20 years and with a perfect feedback yet this is a problem as it is limiting both sellers from getting the highest amounts, and it is allowing others to cheat the system which is an integrity issue with the process if this is something that is being conducted with some sort of software tool.

·3 years agoThis has happened twice to me now, the second time was just minutes ago, I wait for days to bid, then wait out the hours and count down the seconds and pop my bid in and nothing happens and the item sells for much less because none of the snipe bids make it in, including mine. It's really frustrating and irritating to spend all that time and effort for nothing.

·3 years agoeBay has changed the bid entry process since this thread was started last year. This may have fixed some old issues, but may have introduced new issues as well.
If you are encountering problems with the auction countdown -- specifically if the listing ends before the countdown reaches zero, or if the countdown restarts and you have problems entering bids after that happens, or if the auction time in the search results does not match the countdown shown in the actual item listing when you open it to bid:
Check to make sure your computer's time zone is set correctly, and that your computer's time is set to be automatically updated. Problems with your time zone setting or your computer's time setting can affect the auction countdown. Even if the clock is manually set to appear accurate, if your time zone is incorrect, this can affect auction ending times you see in the search results.
Check here to see if your time is off, and if so, by how much:

In short, I experienced my bid being erased from the box whenever another user's bid went in. It happened several times, and upon finally getting a bid registered I was taken to the preset bid selection box i.e. the row of buttons with "Bid 8.00", "Bid 9", etc. etc.

"If you try to snipe an auction and you have your bid ready for a last few second snipe and suddenly your bid just vanishes from the box, and your not left any time to retype a bid prior to the end of the auction... It happens when anyone bids and the page refreshes to reflect the new bid price. If you have any bid in place in the bid box, it will be wiped out no matter if your bid was well above the new bid. So all of use buyers who try to snipe near the end of an auction our bids are being cleared off from our screens".
I do not know where you found that information, but I do not believe it is true. Chances are, the count down clock was off by several seconds and the auction ended, clearing the bid box. There are delays between the time ebay sends info and it is received by your device and displayed. How much of a delay there is depends on several factors, how busy your router is if others in your home are streaming or gaming, if you have other programs open in your device, If you have too many stored up cookies... etc.. Your device's clock may be off as well. You can search online for how to synch your device's or operating systems/browser's time. I have learned that my computer's time display is off by 8 seconds with ebay's. So I bid with 10 seconds left in an auction, and my bid registers with 1-2 seconds left. I've had my snipe ready for a minute or more at times, and never had the amount clear from the box. If you have an auction opened for a while before setting up your bid, you may want to try refreshing the page, with enough time left, 1+ minutes before setting it up. The longer the auction page is open, the higher the chances of the countdown clock being off.
Sniping is fun, but remember one very important thing. It is not the last bid that wins, but the highest one!!! That bid may have been placed on the first day of the listing, a couple of hours before the end, or in the last seconds. If you are placing your absolute highest amount with a few odd cents added to break a tie, and lose, then someone else valued the item more than you and you should have no regrets. If you were willing to pay more and lost, that's on you for not bidding your true max.
I just notified eBay of this issue. They claimed they would get back with me, we will see".
FYI, eBay's customer service reps are not trained to deal with technical issues, and being foreign based have no means of contacting the I.T. team. Do not hold your breath waiting to hear back from them.

Actually it IS true...see e.g. https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Buying/MAJOR-bug-with-new-bid-confirmation-window-item-selling-at-start/m-p/7354670#M48222
The problem is that the bid entry field where you type your bid amount is being cleared/reset if something changes in the window, e.g. a new bid, before you have confirmed the entry. It's either happening on the listing page itself or the subsequent 'bid confirm' window that pops up. It's happened to me a lot in recent weeks, most noticeably in the last seconds of an auction when most people are bidding. The net result is that many bids attempted near the end of the auction aren't being accepted - with no time to enter a new one - and the item sells for far less than what the final bidders were trying to bid.
I don't know if this is a deliberate attempt by eBay to try and get rid of snipers and get people bidding earlier to get higher sale prices, but if so it is actually having the opposite effect. I think it's more likely that a recent update to the bidding windows has bugs, or it's something affecting certain browsers e.g. Firefox because of poor choice of code. Either way let's hope eBay fix it soon, as everyone's being messed around and people are losing money - including eBay.

·3 years agoIt is most definitely true, as it has happened to other eBayers, myself included, and we are discussing it here:
