Anyone had flaky sellers lately?
Summary: matchgrip23 shared a concern about unreliable sellers on eBay, having experienced two instances where items were not sent, requiring intervention and eventually refunds. smc.southside-8 mentioned a similar issue with a purchase not arriving and difficulties in securing a refund, despite contacting a representative. Another participant, roccotacodad54, noted issues with poor packaging, resulting in potential damage during shipping, though they did not experience delays. There is also advice given on filing claims for items not received.
Hello, long time reader, first time poster to this forum.
I am an avid buyer and seller here on eBay. Wondering if anyone else has had flaky sellers lately (or ever)? I’ve had two transactions just this month where I buy an item and after about 7-10 days I notice it hasn’t moved so I message the seller and they don’t respond, so I have to involve eBay and finally get a refund. Have never had this happen in my many years on eBay and now twice in a month.
So crazy to me that someone could be okay with taking the time to list something for sale then just never check eBay to see if it sold. Maybe they’re hoping I don’t notice?

·5 days agoI'm not having problems with purchases arriving on time. What I've noticed is that alot more of my purchases aren't packed very well at all.
One example. I purchased a vintage stag handled carving set (think turkey, prime rib etc.). The seller just put the four items in a box with no inside packing at all. One of the knives had pierced the end of the box 11 times and the point was sticking out 3/4" when I got it. I was amazed it didn't get broken or that the USPS didn't stop it due to the danger of someone getting cut along the way.
Just one example. I've stopped buying fragile items altogether due to receiving too many broken and having to hassel with refunds..........................

·5 days agoI have bought a few things in the recent past through eBay. I have always felt fairly confident buying through eBay since there seems to be failsafes in order. Well one of the things I recently purchased was a Bilibong watch. I was excited about getting it but it never came. So I decided to look into what I needed to do about it and when I did I saw I had a message from the seller. It read "I'm sorry but I have never seen this item so I suggest that you cancel your order and request your money back.". So that's what I did but I didn't hear anything back. So I finally got ahold of a representative which by the way is NO easy task! After arguing with them for a while I was told not to worry. That I would be refunded my money. A month later still nothing.

·5 days agoFile an item not received claim within 30 days of the estimated delivery date. Make sure to ask eBay to step in at the appropriate time.

·2 years agoI had this happen twice this year buying real cheap items like jewelry clasps. Both times it was cheap Chinese sellers I ended up getting a refund and then two months later the item shows up. I believe Ebay is trying to get rid of the Temu type seller and a result of that is those sellers are not stocking as much in US and their service has gone down hill. With that said I have not had any problems with USA sellers.

·2 years agoNot lately, but i won an auction in October 2023 that I never received. Seller had such a long mailing date that I could do nothing until the delivery date passed. I was finally able to file January of 2024. Seller has no current listings, but still an active seller (who is 'away') and has had over 13,000 sales and 87 negatives. Sure wish I could name and shame.

·2 years agoYes there sure are some poor sellers. I was just looking around and saw a purse with $83 shipping. Out of curiosity I messaged her if that was correct? She said it said $22. I took a screen shot sent it back of the $83. Seller was new, so thought she made an error. It was on my watched list and she didn’t have a buyer…relists with the same shipping. 🙄

·2 years agoWith your experience here, am sure that what I am about to say is not news to you, so consider this a reminder:
1. When an item does not appear to have been shipped or to have moved, that doesn't necessarily mean that that did not happen. Some USPS facilities are not so good at doing that job. (See a post from yesterday about a facility in Houston.)
2. eBay notifies sellers if they have a sale. They don't have to check to see if it's sold.
3. Every eBay listing includes an estimated delivery date. If your purchase has not arrived by that date, you can open an item not received case.
4. Not all sellers are meticulous about replying to inquiries. Some simply don't have the time. Glad to hear your situation worked out okay for you, however.
