Another eBay Tracking Scam to add to the list. What about Signature Confirmation?
After many years of being a buyer/seller on eBay I did the most amateur thing and purchased from a seller who was new and had no feedback. My story follows the countless others on this forum. The seller uploaded tracking then a few hours later the package said Delivered but actually went to a different address (which I confirmed with UPS). I didn’t know what to do so I contacted eBay through the traditional channels and they suggested an INR claim, which I know will probably be unsuccessful. I have to wait three days for the seller to respond but in the meantime I contacted eBay through Facebook (suggested here, thank you), and while they said they can’t help me just yet they did say the seller did not require Signature Confirmation which is required since the item was over $750. I’m already preparing to go back to the Facebook route if they rule in the Seller’s favor, but I do wonder how eBay could rule against me in this case. No Signature Confirmation seems like it’d be part of the decision (along with Tracking Number zip code). All that said, maybe they have a loophole they exploit here too. Any thoughts or insight are welcome. I’ve already learned my lesson.

I have done that, more than once, and had no problems with any of them. Maybe I'm just lucky.

·8 months ago'item not as described'...seller has to send a return label to whoever.
Anything the seller gets return...should bring I would think a refund.
'seller who is new'....might not know how to do returns and such.

Maybe I'm confused but I don't understand what facebook can do. Do you mean expressing your frustration on social media (Facebook) to get revenge?
While making you feel better (I guess) a post on Facebook probably has around a 0% chance of actually being of any help to get your money back or be made whole......................

OP8 months agoSo by “Facebook route†I actually mean reaching out via Social Media channels as is suggested in this and many threads. @mudshark61369 post was very helpful and eBay’s social media response seemed very helpful.

·8 months agoHow about fighting fire with fire..sounds unethical, but just file not as described, request seller to issue proper return shipping label that actually indicates seller’s real address, put inside the package/envelope anything that tickles your fancy, send it back and wait for refund…😈

·8 months agoIf a buyer did as you suggested couldn't the seller use the underweight package as a means to stop the claim for refund?
cmkronus2011
OP8 months agoAhh yes, I’ve heard of others doing this. While it may be unethical it may be a last resort. That said, is it even possible after doing an INR claim?

·8 months agoThe INAD return is what I'd do if I were in a situation like this. I don't know why someone may think it's unethical. I would be returning to them exactly what they sent out: an empty envelope with a tracking number on it.
Until ebay has a way to show tracking delivered to an actual address in addition to a zip code, this is the quickest and easiest way to correct the problem. I don't feel like I should have to jump through all these extra hoops of getting letterhead from the shipping company, contacting an ebay rep, etc. to correct a problem that ebay is well aware of and has taken no action to fix.
Some may suggest a credit card chargeback, however, that is more of a hassle in my opinion (and quite frankly, I don't want my banking institution involved unless totally necessary).

OP8 months agoIn hindsight that’s what I wish I would’ve done but that was before I knew how deep this scam went. At this point I suppose I have to wait to see how the INR claim goes.

·8 months agoIf the INR claim is not found in your favor, then you can still open the INAD return. (And they can't deny it, because after all, they'd be saying you received it....)
In this instance, though, you might have a better chance of winning the INR because there was no Signature Confirmation.

OP8 months agoThank you for your insight. Crossing my fingers that the INR works out. If it doesn’t then we’ll know Sig Confirmation doesn’t hold much value in their eyes.

·8 months agoIs today the third business day for your INR refund request @cmkronus2011
or has the lack of signature confirmation already issued a refund to you last Saturday?

·8 months agoHow is it 'more of a hassle' than going through the several steps of a NAD claim?
The Fraud Department of credit card companies are probably the most familiar with the 'False tracking number scam'. When I contacted the Fraud Department of my CC company the last time I was the victim of this scam ... they instantly understood what had happened and executed an immediate chargeback while I was on the phone.
[The agent reminded me that the chargeback could be reversed if my information didn't pan out ... but I didn't worry, since I was telling the truth.]

OP8 months agoGood to know. I’m hoping I don’t have to rely on that and that eBay does the right thing. If they don’t I hope my CC company is as capable as yours. Thanks!

·8 months agoYou might be right. I've only done one chargeback in my life (not ebay related) and it was a whole process to submit online then about 3 weeks for the credit to my account. That was 2 or 3 years ago, so maybe the process has changed.
I guess I just thought the ebay process of opening a return on my laptop and popping a letter in my mailbox would be easier.
