AMAZON ALERT-please warn buyers that an item is being purchased from and shipped from Amazon
Summary: The discussion revolves around concerns about sellers on eBay shipping items that originate from Amazon without informing buyers. Various participants express their frustration with this practice, discussing issues like drop-shipping, packaging quality, and the environmental impact of using excessive packaging. The conversation also touches on the differences in shipping practices between Amazon and its competitors, with some users preferring alternative platforms to avoid indirectly supporting Amazon. There is general consensus that transparency and proper packaging are important in maintaining customer trust.
I buy many items on ebay to avoid giving Amazon any of my business. I've been stunned when the item I refused to buy on Amazon and willingly paid more for on ebay comes directly from Amazon in a Prime box and includes receipts for the transaction and a 2nd "gift receipt" with a QR code that can be scanned for "credit". This is not something the seller had in stock. It is not just being shipped by Amazon. It was purchased after I ordered it from ebay!!! DON'T DO THIS WITHOUT LETTING A BUYER KNOW THIS IS WHAT YOU DO!! Now, before placing an order, I have to message a seller to make sure they are not getting the item from Amazon.

Hard to picture any seller letting a buyer know this is what he does.

"They are getting away with it because they use false UPC codes".
UPC codes are placed on products by the Mfr. not the retailer or site.
"Ebay should really crack down on these sellers dropshipping from amazon".
Actually, ebay allows sales from sellers who use Amazon's FBA or MCF services to pack and ship their items. They own the items but use Amazon to do the shipping.
What is not allowed by either site, is the purchase of an item from Amazon, after the seller has been paid for an ebay purchase. Those items come with "A Gift For You" receipt.
https://supplychain.amazon.com/blog/difference-between-multichannel-fulfillment-and-fulfillment-by-amazon?utm_medium=direct
" You can always report them by going to their store, scroll down to the bottom and select ' Do you like our store experience?' and notify ebay that way".
Doing that does not notify ebay of anything. That is a seller's tool for finding out if people are happy with the browsing experience their buyers have.
You would have to use the report an issue with a seller, option which would only work, if
an item came with a Gift For You receipt.

·3 months agoI didn't know ebay allowed amazon fba. My personal opinion they should not. It is confusing to the buyer. If I purchase an item from ebay I do not want it shipped from amazon and I will be state that in the feedback. I do not buy or sell on amazon so I don't want any items shipping to me from amazon that I purchased on ebay.
mudshark61369
·3 months ago@enchantedcottageshop ,
If they are using FBA or MCF it is acceptable to both eBay and Amazon, just like using Drop Ship product sources.
enchantedcottageshop
·3 months agoIf Ebay sellers are using Amazon FBA or MCF, they should have to state that in each ebay listing so buyers are aware. Ebay is flooded with the same amazon products, using different UPC codes, I personally think it makes ebay look bad. Dropshipping should be from supplier warehouses only, not amazon.
beachmagic
·3 months agoI know where UPC codes come from, I purchase from suppliers. But these sellers are adding UPC codes to their listings that don't belong to the item. If I search ebay using a UPC code, several different items will have the same UPC code. When the sellers do this, the UPC code won't match with Amazon so it doesn't look like they are dropshipping amazon items but they really are.
grann-4629
·3 months agoThat sounds like criminal activity ... are you reporting these UPC Code thieves to anyone?
beachmagic
·3 months agoYou would think Ebay could spot it instead of us having to. This is just a quick example, I searched the upc code 7445034640649 and there are different items listed with the same upc code.
tobaccocardyahoo
·3 months agoWrong UPC codes are prevalent on Ebay because many Ebay sellers are lazy and not professional. They need something in the field and they place whatever code is handy there. They are not doing anything to hide the origin of the product by putting the wrong UPC in the field.
They have no reason to do that. Amazon products usually have a legitimate UPC from the manufacturer which is the same as that in most other retailers.
beachmagic
·3 months agoThey are getting away with it because they use false UPC codes. Ebay should really crack down on these sellers dropshipping from amazon. They are very easy to find. You can always report them by going to their store, scroll down to the bottom and select ' Do you like our store experience?' and notify ebay that way.

·3 months agoHere's what it says on the Comfytemp web site 'shipping policy':
We offer various shipping options. In some cases, a third-party supplier may be managing our inventory and will be responsible for shipping your products. https://comfytemp.com/policies/shipping-policy
So what are these "shipping options" that they "offer" but are not listed? Often you can choose a ground or overnite option. To test which options I could get for Weighted Heated Pad I added it to the cart, went to checkout, entered my address, and the only shipping offered was "standard". No other options offered. So much for "shipping options" on the pad.
At least they disclose a third party supplier "may" be used for shipping. But how often is "may"? It is not often I see a company admit they use third party shipping. Which is to be expected if they don't have a warehouse in the US. I can't find a US based Comfytemp warehouse in a search. They should disclose when you order WHERE products ship from. It seems by how they state things customers will assume there is a company US warehouse. Just state so or not.
I now think Ebay should offer "Guarantee of Shipping Location" from every seller on Ebay! Ebay should monitor all tracking details. If an item doesn't ship from where the seller post, Ebay should pay the shipping cost! And ban the seller after 3 violations of false shipping locations.
In fact, Ebay should handle all shipping procedures! Ebay should order shipping and tracking, and monitor item from location to destination! And when shipping has a glitch, Ebay would be aware and should handle the problem immediately.

"I now think Ebay should offer "Guarantee of Shipping Location" from every seller on Ebay! Ebay should monitor all tracking details In fact, Ebay should handle all shipping procedures! Ebay should order shipping and tracking, and monitor item from location to destination!"
So basically you want ebay to become Amazon and build fulfillment centers everywhere and buy their own fleet of delivery vehicles. Which would raise the price of items sold on ebay by quite a bit.
"I now think Ebay should offer "Guarantee of Shipping Location" from every seller on Ebay! Ebay should monitor all tracking details. If an item doesn't ship from where the seller post, Ebay should pay the shipping cost! And ban the seller after 3 violations of false shipping locations.
If ebay did build fulfillment centers and you ordered something that had a location of the center nearest the seller, but it was out of stock at that facility. So it gets shipped from the next nearest center, that would be wrong?
What about a seller who is located in rural Sluggoville Mn. whose P.O. doesn't offer local pickup. So he drops off his items at the Looneyville Mn. P.O. because it is on his way to work? Should they be terminated because of that? His return address is still the same as what the listing says, and that is where the item would have to be returned to if there was an issue.
Many sellers on various sites make use of Amazons two fulfillment options to handle the packing and shipping of their products. eBay allows the use of those services. What they do not allow, is a seller purchasing an item from a product source AFTER an order has been placed. If you get an item from Amazon that has a Gift For You receipt, then the seller has violated both ebay's Amazon's policies.

·3 months agoHi mud,
"So basically you want ebay to become Amazon and build fulfillment centers..."
I didn't say that. I said Ebay should monitor shipping/tracking to enforce accuracy of shipping details on sellers. This is rather easy to do- just follow the tracking details. No need for new centers just to do that.
Have a good day.
mudshark61369
·3 months ago@mikejffl ,
" I said Ebay should monitor shipping/tracking to enforce accuracy of shipping details on sellers. This is rather easy to do- just follow the tracking details. No need for new centers just to do that".
Wouldn't that require a lot of computer power to keep track of every one of the millions of packages in transit and look for issues or inconsistencies in that info? Not to mention issues that the shipping services sometimes run into, with items seemingly getting side tracked.
Then there's the issue with international tracking that gets a final mile shipping service's tracking number, that does not update until a package arrives in the U.S. clears customs and is handed off to the final mile delivery service.
eBay already has in place a way to get resolution if an item location is misrepresented. A buyer can file an item not as described dispute. It may not work however, if an eBay legal drop shipping service is used. Would ebay's computers be able to pick up on that?
As a 23 year seller 100% seller, I could run into a lot of problems if ebay started using computerized tracking. My zip code is in a City that does not have its own P.O.. All of my mail and packages comes from or goes through a small sorting facility that covers 3 other small cities w/o P.Os. and two that do. It does not have its own drop off or counter service and Its zip code is different from mine. All of my Accepted / Arrived at, departed from, info shows the facility's zip code. Geographically it is located two cities away from my location each with its own zip.
gurlcat
·3 months ago@mikejffl I think I get what you're saying, and it wouldn't require eBay having fulfillment centers, but what @mudshark61369 said about the guy in Sluggoville, MN is a good point, because fairly often my acceptance scans are not in my zip code. This is simply because there are occasions when my scheduled pickup fails for this reason or that -I still usually manage to meet my 1-day handling commitment and it's still 'me' shipping items I had in my possession, but my post office happens to be much further away than the one in the 'next-door' zip code.

So maybe you'd say "Okay but they could program it to accept a nearby zip code" - but then they'd have to define "nearby". The more "okay but"s a rule contains, the more it can fail to serve its purpose.
And something you'll notice about justice (in any arena) is, the more you automate enforcement, the more likely serial offenders will figure out workarounds and innocent people will be punished or at least inconvenienced. Or it'll catch the rare/relatively innocent offender, like the time you got a camera ticket for rolling through a stoplight at 3 A.M. when there were no other cars in sight, but a guy using reflective material to obscure his license plate treats red lights as mere suggestions, by routine. I know you gave a '3 strikes' allowance in your suggestion, but that's just more blind automation that could destroy a seller who doesn't deserve it while savvy schemers figure out how to avoid detection altogether.
People are always better enforcers than machines, and it's no exception with eBay's policy regarding dropshipping. I do wish more buyers were aware of the policy and how to report violations, but I'd rather some violators go unpunished than have an eBay that is more hostile to innocent sellers.
grann-4629
·3 months agoThere is a tracking scam going on with eBay these days. If the buyer is getting false tracking info from a seller, eBay will get the same information to 'monitor'.
Please explain how easy your way is.

gurlcat
·3 months ago@mikejffl Also this part is problematic: "If an item doesn't ship from where the seller post, Ebay should pay the shipping cost! And ban the seller after 3 violations"
1. Why should eBay have to pay for the first 2 violations? Multiply that times however many sellers do it twice, and that's a lot of revenue. Something they'd have to explain to shareholders.
2. How much shipping cost would a buyer be owed if the listing had "free" shipping?
3. Why should shipping cost be the buyer's only compensation? If I ordered from a seller who was (supposedly) nearby, because I needed the item FAST, but it arrived too late because they actually shipped from far away, just getting the shipping refunded would only feel like an insult.

·4 months agoI am surprised at the "Amazon" hating.
Me too. It must be a political thing which apparently cannot be discussed here.
mikejffl
·4 months agoNot wanting to use Amazon for any type of business is not political. A youtuber describes Amazon shady business practices to undercut a seller with a popular product by selling a similar/discounted product, that often ruins the seller's business. Not to mention how workers are treated, etc.
Again, a misrepresentation of the shipping location is a serious issue, and I think should be cause for account deleted by Ebay. But seems Ebay has not come up with something to make sellers accountable. Why not? Ebay should monitor all shipping tracking, as one way to clamp down on this.
grann-4629
·4 months ago@mikejffl Amazon is just doing what others like Best Buy, Walmart, Costco, etc.have done - they come in and wipe out the smaller businesses by starting with low, low prices that the others cannot compete with and eventually your only option is a big box store.
It proves that Capitalism is working. Personally, my loyalty is to price these days. If I can save $5 by using Amazon and get free shipping and everything was legal, why would I not do it? If I can save $150?? Doesn't make economical sense, especially today when gas is pushing $2/litre and a 7 ounce steak costs $29.95.
I have seen documentaries that show both sides of the Amazon employee disputes and there is no way I, or you, can prove what is really happening.
gurlcat
·4 months ago@mikejffl just gave you the reasons why his lack of desire to do business with Amazon has nothing to do with politics, and you're STILL trying to make the case that they're the best thing since apple pie. Can't you just let it go???
grann-4629
·4 months agoFirstly, I have never said Amazon is better than any other site. As a matter of fact, I have said just the opposite in several threads and that I quit their site for two specific reasons.
I am simply saying that today, it is wiser to save money than to avoid a site for whatever reason, political or nor. In my case, with Amazon, I still purchase items through my partner's account, but they don't sell the stuff I buy on eBay (pre-viewed DVD television stuff).
Do you ever shop at a store in a 'bad area of town' to save a few bucks, or would you rather go to the mall and spend more just to avoid going somewhere you don't normally go? Keep in mind that your kids still have to be fed and you still have to keep the lights on with your pension payment.
gurlcat
·4 months ago@grann-4629 So now you've gone from it being your personal preference to being "wiser" -which suggests anyone who disagrees is less wise.
Funny thing about that (and I don't know why neither I nor anyone else has pointed this out before) but your belief that Amazon is the cheapest isn't even true. Before I decided I was completely done with them (largely because of their terrible service, not "political" whatsoever), I only occasionally bought from them because usually I could find something cheaper on eBay, Walmart, or a local discount store like Big Lots or Dirt Cheap.
I have no problem with the "bad part of town" Honey, I LIVE in that part of town. But I am wise enough to know I can save money AND avoid lousy service, and yes, a company I consider evil (call that political if you want, I don't mind).
But you are also missing half the point here -this thread isn't just about one's feelings about Amazon; it's also about eBay sellers misrepresenting themselves, causing frustration for buyers and violating the platform policies!
mikejffl
·4 months ago"my loyalty is to price these days"
Not anymore for me. I'm more loyal to a good company, that has earned respect for quality service and quality conduct.
Amazon has been found to undercut IT'S OWN SELLERS with it's AmazonBasics and AmazonEssentials etc. By copying hot selling products from it's own sellers! Amazon contracts a mfg to make a similar product, but usually lower quality, and then markets it higher up the search. This can wipe out that seller.
Amazon should not be selling competing products when it makes commission of 8-15% on sales from private Amazon sellers! It's not a free market place when you pay to sell on the very platform that competes against you! That is a shady business practice!
mudshark61369

I hate to tell you this but eBay was doing the same thing, and still may be doing it. They track hot selling items, and pass on the info to the Chinese, who then either copy it as a poorer quality item, or often violate international copyright laws and make counterfeits.

·4 months agoI don't get the free market quote. You have to pay to sell on every major on-line market place except the small locals like Kijii.
Why would a seller list something on Amazon that is priced higher than Amazon's undercut price for the same thing? Maybe kicked off eBay and hasn't figured out how to play Amazon yet?
Why would't any progressive company purchase batteries and label them Amazon Basics?
Why would any company want to purchase any other company (game company buying eBay)?

Simple answer for me, and I am not browning: if the item came from one of the familiar posters here, I would be upset and would try to work something out. The majority of you people appear to be honest and if something cost you more than you sold it for, excluding your one year old car, I would assume you made an uncommon mistake somewhere. You are all too smart to run a business at a loss.
If the item came from a seller who was obviously trying to use the system to defraud me and screwed up, too bad so sad.

·4 months ago@blueskies801pa I just about guarantee that is one of the El Fake-o's. Not only the failure to reply to your messages (I wouldn't buy from a seller like that with-or-without suspicion about their inventory sourcing), but also looking at their listings, tons of the red flags mentioned in the Best Answer post:
"Often they can be spotted by a combination of low feedback number, free shipping of heavy items where it would not be profitable to use retail shipping, use of stock photos, high handling time (not necessarily if they are using Amazon or Walmart, though), poor feedback received with complaints of delays and wrong items or out of stock cancellations, very odd item selection and/or quantities like items were chosen at random from a catalog, canned item descriptions scraped from another site that exactly match many other similar listings, differences between registration location on the feedback page and item location (or vague item location -- like "US, United States"), or inability to answer even basic questions about the items being sold."
Here's another one I notice about that seller: They have only 1 available unit for alllll those listings. Some just have a regular (one-off) Buy It Now format, and others have multi-quantity, but ALL of those are "Last one" somehow. 🤣
@eburtonlab What do you think that's about? There's obviously too many like that to be coincidence, but how does one even achieve that presentation (like create a listing starting with a quantity of 3, then remove 2 after listing or something?). And why do you think the fakers do it? Is it to boost FOMO, or are they using it to avoid accidental over-selling?
eburtonlab
·4 months agoWhat do you think that's about? There's obviously too many like that to be coincidence, but how does one even achieve that presentation (like create a listing starting with a quantity of 3, then remove 2 after listing or something?).
Possibly the seller created several multiple-quantity listings, then, being a new seller, ran smack dab into a selling limit. Rather than just having a small number of multiple quantity listings, the seller decided to lower the quantities to the minimum to have the maximum number of different listings to see what sold the best, intending to raise quantities later as selling limits were raised.
grann-4629
·4 months agoSomething else that might give you a clue to an out-of-stock seller is a listing for a rare but not uncommon item that normally sells for $500, and this seller has it listed for $295,320.
Probably a sign that the seller is trying to find the item s/he has listed. When one is found, the seller has a huge sale.
That 'last one' gimmick always shows up on DVD listings where a buyer can select from a list.

·4 months agoIn a strangely ironic way, if you despise Amazon as much as you profess to...than do nothing.
People who illegally/illicitly use a personal Prime Account to both obtain inventory AS WELL AS spend $0 on shipping, packing and inventory logistics cost Amazon money. A lot of money. This gets passed on to other consumers who have the audacity to frequent and (dare I say) enjoy shopping with Amazon.
If you despise Amazon but find it even more unacceptable that this foul practice is occurring:
Report it to Amazon first and foremost.
If the seller is using a personal Prime Account (with all that free shipping included) to fulfill orders to other consumers, Amazon as an entity is the party being hurt the most.
A person engaging in this practice, IMHO, deserves neither to sell on this platform nor to continue enjoying benefits from a personal membership on another platform that they are most certainly increasing costs for other personal members.
Best of luck.

·4 months agoI received a eBay ordered, Amazon fulfilled order a few days ago. I received it in two days. I was expecting a 5 to 7 days delivery because seller is located in Israel with item location stated as Lathrop, California.
There was a strange Tracking that I do not recognize the format for so I was thinking maybe it is coming from Israel.
Item actually came from within my state of New Mexico in a Amazon Packaging with a Gift Receipt inside. Nothing on the Shipping Label says who or where the item is from. I don't mind this as the price was normal and it arrived quickly. The only thing I wondered about is since Amazon included a Gift Receipt then how do I get my money back.
eBay actually recognizes the Amazon Tracking Number and shows on my Order Details that the item has been delivered.

1. The gift receipt is a clue this is a drop ship. Following those return instructions will probably get the seller a refund for what he paid, but get you nothing If you are very lucky, you might get an Amazon gift card for what the seller paid.
2. Coretrails is a service which tracks Amazon tracking numbers and converts them to a form where they are not recognizable as Amazon tracking numbers. Ebay allows them to integrate because Coretrails claims to be a logistics company. I can claim to be a bald eagle, and on the internet, no one will know I am not.

·4 months ago@blueskies801pa How did you find out they were from Israel? If it was by looking at their account profile ... well I doubt you need to be told this NOW, but just in case: a member's eBay-registered location is visible before you buy, so it's one of the top red flags for screening against fake eBay sellers.
For some reason Israel is one of the most common locations, but really any country outside the US would give me pause, if the listing says the item is located in some US state.
But .... another important fact: Tons of fake eBay sellers' accounts show the U.S. as their registered address, which could be for either reason:
1. They really are American. Not like American dirtbags don't exist, LOL.
-OR-
2. They are foreign but managed to breach eBay's security features in order to get a fake U.S. address registry. For some reason (and unless I'm mistaken) Chinese and other foreign nationals more commonly do this than Israelis.

OK by me as long as the price is competitive. I find new DVD's on Amazon to be a little cheaper than the same item on eBay. My partner has a Prime account, so their free shipping is very attractive, but I prefer to deal with my friends on eBay. I haven't had a bad experience yet, but I was mistreated by Amazon and I will never go back there.
