Aggravation from Title Manipulation
Hello All,
I have some issues with eBay currently.
I have been an eBay member for 24 years plus , actually back in the furby craze.
I have brought attention to eBay multiple time concerning search manipulation policy with users and it is out of hand. Hundreds of ads in violation!
eBay continues to say there is no violation.
I have now resorted to including the "search manipulation policy" link in the complaints.
I know this because selling on ebay was my full time job and had my ads deleted for this exact same reason.
My question is. Even though I bring it to their attention, they say the ads are not in violation of the policy when it is crystal clear that they are. This is out of hand in sunglasses section.
Why are they not removing these ads when they are in violation? Is it money? Is it uneducated people making decisions? What the hell is going on?
I can give you a prime example.
title says: Oakley Drop Point Motogp Americas Romeo Juliet Penny Medusa Ott C Six Mars Zero
What is for sale is: Oakley Drop Point Motogp Americas
What is not for sale in the title: Romeo Juliet Penny Medusa Ott C Six Mars Zero
These are vintage glasses and searches for these glasses bring up these types of ads, with no relation to the vintage glasses that people search.
It is ridiculous to bring this to their attention and they do nothing. It is not my responsibility to monitor their site to keep it on the up and up, via their rules. Seems a big fat waste of time to tell them.
Why is this not addressed and stopped even though it is their policy? I just don't understand what eBay is anymore.
I want to get back into selling on eBay in this section in particular but not if they aren't enforcing their own rules to make it a circus act of people bending the rules. Frustration sets in.

·1 year agoI'm less concerned about title manipulation than price manipulation. I hate it when someone posts a low price item, then when you click on the listing, it shows that the low price is actually for an unrelated item. Like you see a listing for a $2 jacket, but in the listing dropdown, the jacket option sells for $30 and the $2 option is actually a cheap scarf.

I've been an eBay member since 1996, and keyword manipulation has been an issue for nearly that entire time. I used to report it, but soon resigned myself to nothing being done. The problem is that, even before AI, eBay has no way to be knowledgeable enough about every listing to know what keywords are false, or the time to carefully read and analyze 1.7 billion listings to figure it out. And relying solely on member reports just opens paths for sellers to get rid of their competition.
It sounds great to demand that eBay enforce their rules. Coming up with practical ways for them to do it is a whole 'nother issue.

Because of the leviathan that ebay has become, it is all but impossible to keep counterfeit items off of this site. Furthermore, ebay is NOT going to take any individual's word that a listing is fraudulent, nor have they the expertise in any given category to make that determination. Others have pointed out ebay's MBG, that's as good as it gets here. As has been true since the beginnings of commerce; Caveat Emptor.

·1 year agoMany potential buyers would never consider Ebay a venue to purchase Oakley glasses. Too many counterfeits.
This has got to be costing you many more sales than the search spam.

Yes, sadly there are millions of sellers and billions of listings, there's no way to police them all.
It's AI making the decision and usually takes reports from numerous users, one wont do it.
I know it's frustrating but sadly, it's part of the eBay universe at the moment.
Just concentrate on your own listings and making them the best!
