Actual Item location not the same as city listed on sale page? Is this normal?
is this something that is a 'game the system' thing? I bought an item I thought was coming from 10 minutes away a couple days ago, I get the tracking which says it came from another state. Many times I will pick a location closer to hopefully get the item sooner and thought the city listed on the item's sale page was where the item was located. Is this some new way people are avoiding seller/store fees is having the city listed as whatever on the item page but then other people are shipping from different locations, hence kind of 'sharing' an account? Regardless of reason this decreases trust for buyers thinking we are going to get an item faster going by what location the seller states on the item page. This has me being much more cautious, especially because if there is an issue with the item , it will be more expensive to return, more hassle, etc.

A seller may be a drop shipper as the last reply suggests. Many drop shippers list their home address rather than the product source's address.

eBay's Store or selling fees are not calculated on item location. They are based on the price and shipping cost of an item.

These days with the state of the USPS even items that ARE located in your state, may end up traveling all around the country before arriving at your address. I'm still waiting on a package mailed on 4/1, that has visited 3 different states so far, each time going back to the Regional facility nearest to the seller.
As for having to return an item, unless your reason for the return is a Buyer's Remorse one like "I didn't like the color, or I thought it was larger/smaller... the seller is responsible to pay the return shipping cost, and they have a short period of 3 days to send you a return shipping label or a refund, once you file a dispute. If you have not received one or the other in 3 days, on day 4 you can ask ebay to step in and get a refund, there's no hassle the Money Back Guarantee (MBG) system is pretty much automated.

OP1 year agoNot returning anything and didn't know about the drop-shipping thing or that items ordered in one's own state may actually then go to other states? Wow I didn't know that was a thing but thanks for the info. Rarely have I had to use the MBG I think the couple times is when the item never arrived and there was no proof of shipping but none of that is happening currently- just didn't know the place listed on the seller page may not be where the item is and wondered ,are people sharing accounts? I suppose picking a closer seller for items many people offer still usually works well as far as getting it faster if this turns into people or an algorithm that makes it cost a lot more I will just have to go back to being patient. There are definitely patterns noticeable in shopping as a customer and not just ebay but in general. Happily, most sellers here are pretty good and yes I have been on the site a long time I even remember the sister site the now-defunct 'half.com' where I would get books , that was a really cool part of ebay and I was sad to see it go. ·1 year agoSeller might be 'drop-shipping'...where seller doesn't have the item or could even be from another country...LOL
Nothing new and not very regulated here.
Always check seller in feedbacks in eBay ID seller country.
