A sellere's mistake makes me so distressful. I need advice.
Hi everyone,
I am seeking advice on a very frustrating situation. My refund case was recently closed, and I feel I’ve been unfairly treated despite following the seller's instructions.
The Situation:
I purchased a non-functional iPhone. The seller explicitly promised to unlock the iCloud ID once I repaired the device.
After I completed the repairs, the seller admitted they had sent the "wrong item" by mistake and requested that I return the now-repaired device.
The seller promised to refund both the original purchase price and the repair costs I incurred once the item was returned.
- I shipped the item back using a separate UPS label instead of the eBay-provided one because I had to ship it from my country, not US.
I returned the item via UPS. UPS confirms it was DELIVERED to the seller.
The Problem:
eBay closed my case because I didn't use the original eBay return label (which had expired).
The seller is now ignoring all my messages and claiming he never received the phone, despite the UPS delivery confirmation.
Since the case is closed, I cannot find a way to get eBay to manually review my UPS tracking and the message history where the seller admitted their mistake.
Has anyone successfully appealed a closed case by providing third-party tracking (UPS)? I have all the receipts and message screenshots proving the seller’s fault and the delivery. How can I get a human agent to review this manually?
Any advice or help from the community or an eBay moderator would be greatly appreciated.

There's one thing you need to be aware of if you continue to use a freight forwarder. When you do, your coverage under eBay's Money Back Guarantee ends when the package is sent to you by the forwarder. So you never had any coverage on this phone through the MBG, nor will you have coverage on anything you purchase that goes through a freight forwarder.
Here's the specific exclusion from the MBG:

·5 months agoI would advise you to immediately call your payment source and have your payment reversed. This seller clearly isn't going to do anything. In the future here is what you do. File a "item not described" case against the seller. Then print out a Ebay label. Go through the process with an Ebay label so you are protected. You weren't protected which is why Ebay closed the case. Ebay will most likely deny the appeal so go through your payment source.

Your seller took advantage of an inexperienced buyer and being inexperienced, you fell for their broken promises.
The "good" thing is that with 87% feedback and the absolute junk that the seller sells, I suspect he/she won't be around long.
As recommended, open a dispute with your credit card provider. You probably won't be able to get reimbursement for the repair but you can (hopefully) be successful in winning the chargeback.
For future purchases, please come here for advice before taking questionable advice from sellers.

"I shipped the item back using a separate UPS label instead of the eBay-provided one because I had to ship it from my country, not US. ... eBay closed my case because I didn't use the original eBay return label (which had expired)."
The problem is that you use a freight forwarder based in the U.S. and that is where se seller originally shipped the phone to. When ebay sent you the label it was from Forwarder's address, to the seller's address, because the forwarder's address is your registered address, not your address in S. Korea. eBay is only going to accept the tracking info from the label they sent you.
"Has anyone successfully appealed a closed case by providing third-party tracking (UPS)?"
The simple answer is, NO. especially not in a case where it could have taken more than 30 days for the phone to be repaired and returned to you.
Your ebay Money Back Guarantee protections only are good for up to 30 days from the date of delivery ( In this case to the forwarder's address) your Korean one.
If you paid for the phone with a credit card, contact your card provider about doing a charge back. Tell them you have copies of the repair bill and the UPS information showing that you sent it back to the seller. If your forwarder repacks packages in larger ones, for forwarding keeping the seller's return address on the label, a photo of the original box with the seller return address might help.
That seller's description stating:
"HAS MY IC account BUT IF YOU FIX IT I can remove the ic lock. It’s under my account.
Screen was detached for individual sale.
Phone doesn’t power on when charging or anything. Tried hard reset, screen replacement & still nothing."
Unlocked for any carrier.
It is fixable for sure. Everything looks brand new.
No water damage.
Was completely inappropriate. They should have added if the buyer is going to have it repaired I will unlock it before shipping it.

·5 months agoIt appears you used a freight forwarder to get the item.
The seller only had to send you a shipping label to the address you provided.
The seller did that and you let the return time out and then sent it back on your dime UPS.
The seller could have denied any return at all because of the Freight Forwarder.
You have no MBG coverage if you use a Freight Forwarder.
Now, I know you dont want to hear this but no matter what the messages say no one can make the seller pay for repairs or the label you bought.
No one will look at this because you missed the return window and used a different shipping label without putting the information in the case.
