1200 mile detour
So my package was scanned at my local distribution center but then the next day it was scanned at Florida which is 1200 miles from me, has anyone else ever had this happen before and did you still get your package?

·2 years agoThere are several West Coast sorting centers that have a deserved evil reputation for slow delivery and misplaced packages. In Hawaii, I've had a couple of packages take the very scenic route, up and down the East Coast before finally heading west, and one that went by way of Anchorage, AK. That one was apparently duct taped to a passing whale heading to Maui for the winter...

·2 years agoYes i had one that was bound for the west coast and went to Atlanta then to Puerto Rico. It was finally delivered but took 3 weeks.

Well as I stated in my first reply, many of us have had packages misdirected by shipping services at one time or another. Usually, except for arriving late, they do arrive and all is well. Hopefully, the package in question wasn't supposed to be under a tree this morning. 🎄🎀

·2 years agoThis has happened to me as well.
I shipped it to IN and the tracking suggests it was in IN and the next day it was in another state that is thousands miles away. I initiated a missing mail search via USPS and eventually my buyer received the package. According to my buyer, the package has a new postage, which is not shipped from me: so USPS found the package and shipped it to its intended destination. Funny thing is the next day I got a phone call from USPS saying they did not find the package and now I can file an insurance claim with them and I told them it looks like the package is delivered to my buyer already just from a different address....
I have another buyer from VA and his/her package arrived at VA and then next day gets to Kansas City. I initiated a delayed package report followed by a missing mail search after 3 days. Eventually, my buyer received his/her package. In that case, I have already refunded the order and the buyer head to the usps postal office to just refuse the delivery to get the package back to me.
So conclusion is eventually, the mail will end somewhere and most times USPS can find it.

·2 years agoI once had a package going from Dallas to Fort Worth routed through Puerto Rico. It did eventually get to its destination.
Hopefully you won't contemplate giving the seller less than positive feedback for the delay, as you asked about in your last post.

Oh, yes! I had a very similar thing happen on eBay. I had a package zigzag across the country three times before being delivered to me in California … about a week late.
I ordered an item from a seller in Florida … which was tracked to a CA city within 30 miles of me. Expecting delivery the next day … I was shocked to see that it was tracked to NJ instead. There then was no tracking shown at all for several days … until I found it on my doorstep. Go figure. 🤔
That taught me a valuable lesson about shipping: It ain’t over till it’s over! [I believe that realization might have been expressed before. 😉😊]

·2 years agoMisroutes happen. Sometimes sorting machine error, sometimes human error where they put the package where it used to have to go, and forgot that is no longer the place.
The problem is often that there is no direct path from where it went to the destination, and it has to return to its previous location.
This Christmas season was a major improvement, on the whole, over past Christmases and the rest of 2023. Fewer packages routed to known bottlenecks and black holes.
I offer my thanks and best holiday wishes to the good folks at USPS.

·2 years agoI have to say I have absolutely no complaints about USPS' service this year. I shipped 11 packages on the 18th and the 19th, all GA, and all but two of them made it to their destinations before Christmas-- the two that weren't delivered are currently at the buyers' POs to be delivered on Tuesday. One that I shipped on the 21st was delivered on the 23rd, and 3 of the 4 other ones that I shipped on the 21st are also at the buyers' POs, the one exception being the one that was going clear across the country.

Happens more & frequently during the past year, what with "baby boomer" retirements not being equal to the number of new hires, plus hours cut by the new Postmaster General, plus the closures of many USPS Distribution Centers, plus the elimination of thousands of "blue box" drop-offs.
Another example: a month ago, I shipped out a few packages in the lobby of my regular post office. One of the packages was being shipped to Maryland. A few hours later, I checked the tracking -- only to discover that it had been magically "delivered" earlier that morning!
Now, my post office is in a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota -- so there's NO WAY that package had arrived in Maryland only two hours later!
Turns out that the USPS clerk who was supposed to be scanning the packages in the bin for USPS Acceptance, had accidentally clicked the wrong button -- so a whole hamper of packages had been prematurely scanned as "Delivered."
Accidents happen -- no system is perfect.

·2 years agoOh, sure. USPS is great but occasionally packages go astray for awhile.
I live in Pennsylvania. A friend in Virginia sent me a Christmas present some time ago, and it is currently in Billings, Montana. 🙂
So it happens, especially at this time of the year when the volume is huge and many workers are subs or temps.

·2 years agoSent a priority mail package to Florida, it was scanned as picked up in NJ, the following day it was scanned in AZ. Ended up delivered one week later.

·2 years agoThe machines that do the automated processing (untouched by human hands) sometimes make mistakes and kick the item off the line into a tub/bin/cage where it did not belong resulting in it taking a little vacay.

·2 years agoHappened to me a couple of weeks ago. Ground Advantage package went from New Mexico to Ohio and then to California. It took a few extra days to be delivered. Showed late on eBay.

OP2 years agoWell that’s good that it got there, mine shipped from Pennsylvania, then it went to Rochester (my local distribution center) then all the way to Florida.

Did you check the tracking through USPS.com tracking, or just from ebay's tracking link which is a 3rd party link. On the USPS site you may get more info.
Any of us who have used ebay for a long time have had packages go backwards sideways or just freeze in place. As ebooksdiva wrote: this time of year an over stressed postal employee may have accidentally redirected it. If it get sorted in Fl. today it may get a Departed that facility's scan, and be on its way back to your city.

It’s that time of year when over zealous postal workers put packages on the wrong truck. It happens, it will get to it’s intended destination but maybe a tad late.
