“Photo only†scam
Hi, bought an item for the normal price of the item but it seems I fell into one of those stupid "photo only" scams.
The ebay reps don't seem to have a good enough grasp of english to understand it's a scam, unsure what to do, they've scammed myself and about 30 other people for roughly $5000
As per their item description "You are purchasing the picture of the coin. If you are a human, do not purchase this item as it is set for bot accounts buying out all the cheap items listed."

·1 year agoThis is an old thread. However, any buyer can file an item not as described case. They would have won that.

OP1 year agoOh I did win and get a full refund, my issue was in regards to ebay not stopping them from scamming further people, we got the police involved and he was charged.

·1 year agoIf all the buyers get refunds I suppose they will stop. eBay has never disclosed how they decide to take action. Some sellers get banned for life and others seem to get buy.

·1 year agoI knew a guy that did this with pokemon cards he would put in the description exactly what it was that they were only receiving a picture of the item and not the item itself and since he did it that way there was nothing eBay could do and he banked like 17k in only a few days then got banned and got the keep the money so long story short read the description

·1 year agoThe passive nature of so many people on these message boards is amazing to me. Someone gets duped by an obvious crook, and half the replies are 'ask them nicely to not rip you off'.
It really shows you how these crooks get away with this, most people are spineless and just take whatever crap comes their way. That kind of attitude is why there are so many fraudulent sellers on this site in the first place.

·1 year agoOts also just happened to me paid £180 for 3 photos of coins,
I've contacted ebay customer services two days ago so ther people don't get scammed two days later 9 more victims
I've left negotive feedback to warn other buyers and it's not even been displayed
I'm absolutely furious with the way ebay has handled this matter and will never buy coins again on this platform after this episode

·1 year agoGo to your purchase history and click return item and select, the item doesn't match the description as the reason.
The seller will have 3 days to accept the return and pay return shipping or refund without returning.
If they don't, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in.

·2 years agoDid you contact the seller before going to the eBay reps? From the listing it sounds like all you have to do is ask and they'll refund. As @stainlessenginecovers said, while their methods aren't allowed, their intent, and fix, seems pretty clear. And I would be hesitant to call this a scam, as the intent doesn't seem to be malicious, just misguided.

In that case, open a Not As Described return, seller will get dinged in their seller metrics (enough of these and the listing will get removed, and possibly the seller themselves) AND have to supply/pay for a return shipping label (even if they 'do not take returns' a NAD is NOT part of that).
Then they will be the ones $%$$%ing themselves.

·1 year agoRegardless of the fact that this post is almost a year old, are you saying that the seller said that or that an eBay rep said that? And is it actually written or was it just orally?

Although they are NOT the 'bot' police and are NOT supposed to list like this- it was clear what their intention was and what their fix was if a mistake was made.
