Beanie Babies were originally marketed by the manufacturer as an "instant collectible," and the manufacturer additionally took advantage of the buyers' gullibility and naivete by deliberately marketing the rarity of "error" Beanies (they're not!), and "retired" Beanies -- which were simply models that were slow-selling.
There were hundreds of thousands of Beanie Babies manufactured in Third World countries overseas -- and, twenty+ years later, all those "investors" are now trying to dump their "stock portfolios."
The problem is -- there are more Beanie sellers than there are buyers -- and the realistic price for most Beanies is about $1.00 -- or less.
Supply and demand -- too much supply, and not enough demand.
