Items which were manufactured in amounts over 100,000 will never be considered "rare", until over 99.99% them have been destroyed.
In addition, Beanie Babies were deliberately promoted as "instant collectibles" by Ty Warner, as a means to con gullible and unsuspecting buyers that his cheaply-made stuffed toys would have investment value.
Big reveal: Beanie Babies have NO value, because TOO MANY were manufactured.
He made millions of dollars hoodwinking his customers, and became one of the richest individuals in the United States.
The "rare" Beanie Babies were actually oversold inventory which retailers no longer wanted on their shelves; so Ty Warner came up with the marketing campaign that those particular Beanie Babies were going to be "retired."
Result? Beanie "investors" rushed to gobble up all those "retired" stuffed toys, under the mistaken belief that anything being "retired" must eventually mean "rare."
No -- it simply meant that Ty Warner didn't have to pay retailers for returned merchandise -- the Beanie "investors" paid the retailers, and Ty Warner never had to pay a cent in return fees.

·1 year agoI'm sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, the thrift store bins are full of BBs. They typically bring $1.00 apiece, with the 'scarce' or 'rare' ones bringing $6.00 to $10.00 on a good day. With ebay's seller fees and all the hoops to jump through, listing them here may not be the best plan.

You may want to take a minute to check what other Beanies have sold recently on eBay. Unfortunately, many (if not all) are not worth the time to list. I am sorry for the news of your father and for informing you about the value of Beanies.

OP1 year agoI don't know much about eBay. That was my dad's knack. I have no idea what to do a couple of them have been selling due to miss prints. But nobody will pay the price that I'm going to be asking just because somebody else has listed that same exact item for that price. I really don't know how to do this.

·1 year agoAs you know, asking price is much different than selling price. You really need to search for completed/sold listings on eBay which can be filtered when you search for an item.
If you need help understanding how to search completed/sold items, PM me and i can walk you through the process. You may be disappointed with the value they have. Personally, i would donate them or give them away to family members as mementos of your father. IMHO

·1 year agoI haven't seen one that didn't have misprints.
Most only sell for a few bucks and it might take awhile to sell at that price.
