Incorrect eBay Fee Calculation
Hi everyone,
Read the golf club selling fee example under ebay seller fees.
I believe there is an arithmetic/documentation error in this example.
The example states:
Item price: $150
Shipping: $50
Sales tax: $10.50
Buyer pays: $210.50
Final value fee: $29.03
eBay deposits: $170.97
Seller pays $50 shipping
Seller nets $120.97
The stated $29.03 fee is correct: $210.50 × 13.6% + $0.40 = $29.03.
However, $210.50 − $29.03 = $181.47, not $170.97.
The stated $170.97 payout only works if the $10.50 sales tax is also subtracted:
$210.50 − $10.50 − $29.03 = $170.97.
Likewise, $170.97 − $50 shipping = $120.97.
Therefore, the example should explicitly state that the $10.50 sales tax is excluded from the seller's payout, rather than saying that eBay "deposits the remaining payout" after only calculating the final value fee.
This is particularly confusing because the example also says the final value fee is calculated on the full $210.50, including the $10.50 sales tax.
I think eBay should review and correct/clarify this example so sellers can understand exactly how the buyer's sales tax, eBay's fee, shipping, and seller payout interact.
What do you all think?
