missing hair plug holes
hi I purchased a 1975 Malibu Barbie, 1/3 of her hair plug holes are missing. Is she a rare factory mistake or a hot mess?

·1 month agoI'm not that familiar with the later Malibu dolls, but I know the 65 American Girls weren't rooted in the middle of their heads. And of course ponytail Barbies were only perimeter rooted. So Mattel certainly had a past record of not completely rooting heads. But I'm glad you returned her if you weren't happy. Let the seller research the hair issue before they resell her.

OP1 month agoHi The head has large blank sections, no hair plug holes ever. The pattern looks deliberate , intentional.I didn’t find anyone with similar issues , what i would expect on a factory defect - ie Bubble cut Barbie’s with side parts or beehives. I have heard of reproductions having limited hairplug holes , also possibly a counterfeit . I sent the doll back to the seller. I am curious.. just the one doll head with a factory defect…so obvious when it came out of the box, she had total combover.

·1 month agoIt might be a factory mistake or it could be a byproduct of the country of manufacture. The 75 dolls were manufactured in Taiwan, Korea, and the Philippines, and there are differences in the rooting pattern and resulting thickness of hair between the three. Is it obvious they're just missed plugs?

·1 month agoActually it appears that she's a reason for an NAD case unless the missing hair plug holes were mentioned in the description.

OP1 month agoNo mention of the hair situation in the description , seller was happy to accept a return…even though the site stressed no returns. Very nice , appreciated her commitment to Barbie !

Not a desirable error.
The vinyl head slipped on the assembly line, the machine jammed, or the needle broke.
