Writing a listing for an item which must be sent in 3 separate package.
How do I determine shipping costs when it could go to anywhere in continental US? Maximum shipping costs appear to be almost as much as I’m asking for the item. I.e. $257 shipping for a $300 item. If I quote this worst case shipping cost, it will deter bidding by people that live closer, greatly reducing my potential list of bidders. How do others handle this?

Mentor3 years agoYou want to use calculated shipping, so that only buyers farther away pay the maximum. You enter the weight and dimensions and eBay will calculate the shipping for the services you choose to offer.
Multiple boxes are more difficult, since the shipping calculator sees only 1 package. So you need to manually find the difference to send 3 packages compared to 1 package for the total weight. Then enter the maximum difference as a handling fee. If a nearby buyer purchases the item, you can always refund a small portion of the shipping.
